Anyone else enjoyed the England v Germany game last night. Despite losing by an unstoppable wonder goal, I thought we played very well and should have won.
The players seemed well drilled and knew why their roles were.
Typically the press in some sectors put a downer on the the performance.

"we should have won" that’s something we are saying to much lately. not only with MU but now with England. don’t get my wrong I think the lads play good but as it happens with MU we need to start making the chances into goals and not only have a match of 10 or 11 chances.

For the first time I think I was indifferent to an England game. Not sure why, whether it is the years of being let down culminating in the Iceland debacle, or whether it was the appointment of Southgate or just a lack of real characters in the players. I recall 1970 and the colour of the Mexico World Cup, yet now it seems we are just another grey national team. Maybe it was just another friendly at a time when players are knackered and maybe it will change but for me Southgate has a lot to do to re-inspire us all.

I like Southgate Red Man, he talks sense and whilst his managerial career has not been inspiring and he got the job almost by fluke I like his approach. We need to shake it up and break the self limiting beliefs / arrogance (yes I know they are contradictions) and I think he might just do that.

Red Man

We played Germany without fear and went for it. It was just one game. We did the same against Spain as well. The main problem with England is when they go to a tournament. Injuries occur so we change shape be the players look clueless.
Back to last night, England played as a team. Technically they looked good. The ball was moved around with ease and precision. We played with purpose. I'm far too youn to remember 1970 World Cup, as it's been told to me, taking Charlton off completely changed the game.

This is a Manchester United not England page, but I forgot to put in the treatment of Scholes in favour of the two media darlings and the waste of Carrick's talent has frustrated my England viewing.

Playing well in a meaningless friendly means nothing. We beat Argentina before one tournament and it just ramped up expectation to then end in the usual failure. Hodgson not even wanting to explain the last tournament left a very sour taste. Maybe I can't get the image of Southgate (who seems a nice England FA yes man) with a brown paper bag on his head in a pizza advert out of my mind.

Yes I remember Banks couldn't play and the game changing when Charlton was subbed, my brother frustrated by it.

Maybe Southgate will do well, just can't see he has the edge, the decisiveness to succeed at vital moments, like a certain penalty he famously missed. Hope he succeeds as I am a very proud Englishman.
