We didn't play well and were extremely lucky to win. But we won and that's what matters.
Moving forward, if we defend like this in Europe or against Chelsea, then I can see another 4-0 drubbing or worse.
Smalling was absolutely shocking. Worse display I've seen for some time. Rojo is not a left back. He played well in centre of defence earlier in the season, so why not play him there.
Bailly was running all over the place trying to cover for the two idiots either side of him.
Shaw, I think he's a goner at the end of season.
Need a good cb to partner Bailly. Also need a good left back and rb. Samedo, Rose and lindelof in the summer as this lot will not win us the league next year.
Got to say, Saints played really well but we helped them by defending so poorly.

Valencia has arguably been our best player this year.

Felt like one of those victories under Ferguson, we were very average today apart from a world class performance from Ibra and glimpses of Pogba. We got to address our defense this summer, I think we need cover or a long term potential starting RB (Semendo) and a leader CB if we can get one (Lindeof/ Manolas) . I'm only worrying about LB if Shaw leaves (unlikely)

Ibrahmovic head and shoulders our player of the year, Valencia gets "workhorse" or "under-rated" performer of this season though.

I'm not a great fan of Smalling at all and think he breeds nervousness through the team. Even his back passes are dodgy.

I think Rojo had bad game in part for covering for Smalling. I would have liked to have seen Bailly Rojo and Blind at the back.

I think Shaw will get his chance soon. I think we will invest in Semedo, Lindelof, Bakayoko and Greizmann.

No, 'probably' about it, Stand.

Sorry, 'arguably'.

I like Smalling but not as our number 1 centre back and captain, he a capable number 2 though, he lacks that leadership and toughness, reminds me of a poor man version of Rio.

27 Feb 2017 12:04:07
Shane he's nothing like Rio. Rio could really play football. His technique and skill was right up there with some of the best midfielders let alone defenders. Where as Smalling is regulary out of position, poor at tackling and marking and not very good on the ball.

Look at yesterdays game, every time the ball came into the box Smalling was either by himself in no mans land or trying to undress and cuddle his opponant to death.

He is the poorest of our CB's if he wasn't tall and fast he wouldn't even be a footballer. Imagine if he had Blind or Mata's physical attributes.

He needs to be sold in the summer, we will likely sign a new CB, that puts him at 5th choice and to be honest I'd be tempted to play TFM or Tuanzebe ahead of him. And RoShaun Williams is coming up through quickly as well.

I guess your not a member of the Chris Smalling fan club lol.

Shane jones and bailly are better cb's than smalling even rojo when he not trying to hack people down with stupid tackles is very much better cb than smalling. He is more like a poor man's shawcross without anywhere near defensive ability while being as appalling if not more with ball at his feet.

27 Feb 2017 15:38:54
Tbh I only really rate Baily, I think he will grow into a really solid defender, also rate Axel as well, think he got a ton of potential, tbh if I was manager I would look to get rid of all the others, but that bad management and business.

27 Feb 2017 16:01:09
Shane, I agree on that. Jones Rojo and Smalling are not good enough to be first choice. But I think Jones and Rojo are decent enough squad options. It will be harder to get better players who are prepared to sit on the bench near enough every week waiting on an injury or suspension to get their chance only to be back on the bench a couple of weeks later.

27 Feb 2017 16:51:38
More about keeping morale and team chemistry, I would get rid of Rojo or Jones (my pick) first. Smalling being one of the captains might save him as a "leader". We need 4 CB for the season, again I would like Lindeof or Manolas to come to the club this summer and let one CB go. Next summer would could do the same again, I wouldn't be keen for changing too many of our defenders this summer. We most likely going to sign a RB aswell.
