Some weeks ago I posted about how Jose has changed training in particular relating to recovery sessions. I read an interesting article this week on Jose training methods which are also being used by England rugby, it may explain why, after three years of not finishing games strongly, we are suddenly starting to again. I understand that Carlos Quiros brought the technique to United, but I don't know whether Moyes, when he cleared out the backroom changed it. Anyway this is some of the detail.

The methodology is called tactical periodisation, Every day training is on a specific parameter of the game. One day there is a physical session and then a fast day where they train for at least 60 per cent of the session above game speed. They don't do any extra fitness. It's all done within those training sessions.

There are "four moments" of tactical periodisation: offensive organisation, the transition from defence to attack, defensive organisation and the transition from attack to defence.

The aim is to help players rapidly alter their on-field behaviours according to the tactical context of the match and what unfolds in front of them.

Jose is a known advocate of this.

I read that too redman. Compared to the last couple of seasons the training regime is like chalk and cheese but yet some of the posters on here wanted instant results just because we spent a lot of money.
It takes time to adapt players and we are starting to see the results. We are by far the finished article but the positive signs are there.
Jose will cull the players that can't adapt or don't suit the ethos.
I have no doubt that he will develop a squad that all sing from the same hymn sheet and that gives us options to change game tactics as they develop.

Interesting points Red Man.
As it happens I attended an open England Rugby training session at twickenham yesterday, the level of intensity was crazy. My mate asked me why Eddie Jones is so hated, I said it's because he's the Jose Mourinho of rugby!

Ken- agree we got a gaffer who knows what he's doing and will stick with his convictions, at a club that will allow him full control (unlike at Chelsea and Real) .
He doesn't take too kindly to soft-centred individuals regardless of ability, and I reckon most of us fully support that. Hope he stays for a long time.

Good to read thanks.

I would say that under LVG there were a lot of posters saying the exact same things about how he was having to rebuild and refocus and this all takes time and it would be foolish to expect instant results, "he knows what he is doing, have faith" was the mantra. This clearly proves LVG had no idea what he was doing despite adamant support for his ideas right until the end! Vindicated.

I appreciate it takes time for new ideas to take effect, but people were going mental at me for saying that just because they are new ideas it doesn't mean they are good ideas! However I think in this case Jose is on the right track and we certainly need to work on how to transition better.

Herrera has been incredible this season and I think he will turn into the mainstay and captain next season, he has the intellect and ability to understand and adopt the ideas being coached quickly!

Leave him alone to do his job rave and he will deliver imo.
We all need to accept he knows best so in my case he seems to like fellaini and the options he gives in certain circumstances, and to be fair to jose he will change it when it's obviously not working like whipping fellaini off at half time on thur because he was all at Sea in the 1st half.
He did the same with martial when he started him cf against wigan I think but quickly moved him to the left where he excelled and he has not looked back since.
Pogba seems to have improved greatly since his Liverpool horror show.
Miki and mata look great with a licence to roam. Valencia and herrera have been fantastic and ibra continues to score goals and while he does not wear the armband he is without doubt the leader of the team on the pitch and listening to some accounts the leader off it too. The other players look to him and for him all the time and why not.

Are you really him? The Beast?
Bless you.

In jose we trust .
Plus a lot of these players are better than prople did them credit for .
You don't have to sell every player who has a bit of bad form, especialy the young ones.

Maybe its a good idea to just support your team, manager and players.

18 Feb 2017 13:56:43
I think most of if not all of the fans do trust Jose.

Good post redman.

18 Feb 2017 14:36:19
I think so angel. Good post.

18 Feb 2017 14:44:49
Dont forget the players lads .
Its ok to support the players to 😆.

18 Feb 2017 15:30:19
Pretty sure we all support the players but as committed, money spending fans we I think we can reserve the right to have a moan when someone isn't doing the business! Especially during the games on the live chat when passions are running high, as long as it's within reason.

The above posts highlight that as part of the Jose rebuild, it's essential to look at the attitude of the player as well ability, both equally important in my view. Jose has excelled when his teams have had that military-like mentality, seeing him as the general, heeding every order. Not many top modern footballers of that ilk, so I'd rather we slowly drip-feed new faces into the squad, which as it is is very strong indeed.

Its looking like a jose team now, not great to watch, his other teams never where but not bad to watch ever .
I always thought the style of his football was better that people gave him credit for but it is very tactical.
But we look like a jose team imo don't look lime loosing games that something i always associated with a jose team .

Still improving and it was always going to take time for jose to get the team playing how he wants .

And also for the players to adjust to the jose style .
As fans, support the team support the players we are meant to be fans . enjoy it.

Anybody who puts on that shirt for United will always get my support 100 percent whether they are good enough or not. If the manager picks them I'll support them.

Even if it's evident one or two might be past it 😂.

18 Feb 2017 17:39:03
Apparently you're not allowed to do that rave 😂.

19 Feb 2017 09:07:18
Who's past it angel?

19 Feb 2017 11:16:59
I definitely am brendan.

19 Feb 2017 12:10:31
I'm not sure angel I think you have another couple of seasons in you. Maybe the legs have gone a bit but your vision is still good and your timing is usually spot on😂.
