I am a glass half full type of fan when it comes to United but I will say now I don't see us finishing top 4 - The signs have been there for a few weeks even during the good run which is basically our finishing is woeful at times, and our defenders still during each game are prone to switch off and not see the player on the edge of the box or just inside the box waiting for the pull back - we have got away with it both ends of the pitch and the results have masked a few failings although our play has been really good these last 6 weeks or so, you just can't get top 4 with the lack of goalscorers we have. Spurs have got several, LPool, Arsenal are better than us in that respect i'm sorry to say. A lack of finshing will do for us i'm afraid.

Hopefully we can get a cup. or two instead

Chelsea and Spurs won't drop out the top 4- leaves 2 spots and I would love to be wrong but I just don't see us doing it.

If we play the way we have we won't be far off and I think going into the close season it will feel reasonably upbeat, and next season top 3 i'm sure.

I have a horrible feeling we're just going to miss out. Could be as tight as goal difference again. I just think we've given away too much of a head start. Tell you what, though. For the most part, I've enjoyed watching us again.

i think we will make top 4

16 Jan 2017 21:29:54
I think it will be touch and go, certainly a tough task. But I wouldn't bet against us getting top.4 at this point. The run in should be entertaining!

16 Jan 2017 21:55:13
I agree with you boy. I have said our finishing is not up to scratch and we don't finish teams off. Unfortunately, I can't see us finishing top4. In fact 6th place looks about right at present. We simply don't score enough goals.

I think we will get top 4

16 Jan 2017 22:26:22
I will be stunned if we don't get top four. We have more goal scorers than any of the other teams. Ibra is the most on form goal scorer in the league, rash, Martial, Miki, Mata, Rooney, Pogba and even Jesse are all goal scorers but have lacked consistency or have be unlucky.

Keepers have had worldies against us. We've hit the woodwork an incredible amount of times. We just need to keep playing football and not getting tight. Fellaini worked for equaliser last night, but Rashford on to play left wing with Miki behind could have got the victory.

I'm going to stay in my overly optimistic bubble, still haven't given up on the title.

I think we will be in the top 4 by the end of February and stay there.

17 Jan 2017 00:03:47
I hope you're right gds and HB, but I can't see which teams are going to drop out.

17 Jan 2017 03:24:19
Liverpool and spurs are due to get tired around this time because of the style they play. We just might have shown teams to go around Liverpool press style. Not to mention messiah city. They are far from certain finishing top 4 either.

17 Jan 2017 03:34:24
Confident we'll finish in the T4, and comfortably, oh yeah and we'll win a trophy, or two as well.

The law of averages suggest Arsenal are going to miss out on a T4 position eventually so why not this season when it's so tight, and unless Klopp signs a few players in January he'll have Liverpool running on empty by the time March comes around.

Fully expect United and City to join Chelsea and Spurs in the Champions League places by the end of the season.

Wow burren-boy if this is glass half full.

I disagree mate, I understand the nerves and the fear, but i'm more inclined to side with gds n dodgy banter.

We're good and heading towards great. We have the hunger back in the team n the rest is just ironing out the kinks and I assure u it takes time.

Again, we're all good!

17 Jan 2017 06:59:50
I'm completely on board with gds opinion we will get in and stay there we won't be as far off the eventual champions as people think imo.

Just to back up my point with a bit of substance:

In the next three weeks
City vs Spurs
Liverpool vs Chelsea
Chelsea vs Arsenal
Liverpool vs Spurs

We play Stoke, Hull, Leicester and Watford. Not saying any of these games will be easy, but I expect us to get between 9 and 12 points and if we do I think we will already be top 4 before we play City.

A few weeks ago I looked at the fixtures and said if we beat Liverpool we would only be a couple of points behind them or even ahead of them and people thought I was mad, we are capable of a good run, as proved recently even with the teams above us in good form because they play each other some of them have to drop points.

17 Jan 2017 08:14:02
I hope you are right Raconteur, I think we won't make top 4 but only by 2 or 3 points - but could do well in Cups as I say.

Game after game we have missed chance after chance, since the first ball was ever kicked there's always been one indisutable fact and that is you can't win games if you don't score goals -and we don't score enough and it will catch up with us.

Enjoying the season so far, much better than in recent years long may it continue.

Bfbw,

We won a lot of games in a row for a team that can't score goals and win games.

17 Jan 2017 14:51:58
Gds2, agree you have a good run of fixtures and we don't, but having said that, we have 10 home fixtures out of 17 left and will have played everyone else in the top 6 by 18th March. That leaves, the last 2 months of the season with Everton and West Brom away as our toughest fixtures on paper. By contrast you still have to visit Spurs, Citeh and Arsenal plus have got Chelsea at yours. Not only have you got to get to the top 4 before playing these teams, you have to be there after playing them.
If we can get through Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea in the next few weeks with, say, 6points, we are looking good to be in the top 4. I personally think Arsenal are the ones you and Citeh are fighting over 4th for. Then again, the league is unpredictable. Is interesting how most fans seem split on how their team has done and how they will fare in the run in. Certainly we have a split of doubters and believers on the LFC page.

Bobby,

Without any Europe it would be a disaster if you don't make top 4 from the position you are in mate, this is your big chance to win the title while you don't have Europe and the other teams do, you blew it last time so let's see what happens this time around.

My post had nothing to do with Liverpool, I realise to get top 4 we need to win some tough games, but momentum is huge in football, psychologically once we are in the top 4 I think we will be difficult to knock back out of it, especially with the form we have had to show to claw it back.

17 Jan 2017 17:15:59
Agree with you - from the position we are in and with our home record to date and no European distractions, not making top 4 would be a big disappointment.

I am undecided about our chances for the title - I think this will become clear in the next month.

As for you boys, I would suggest that despite a sluggish start to the season, with the squad you have assembled, missing out on top 4 would also be a massive disappointment. That said I do (regrettably and begrudgingly) see you getting 4th ahead of Arsenal. Momentum does count for a lot and if you can break back in the top 4 and follow that up with a big result against a top 4 rival then that may carry you well into the run in.
