so on the back of jose saying on fellaini

'He was not afraid after the Everton match to go to the pitch again. He played a phenomenal game against Reading (in the FA Cup on Saturday) and today he scored a very important goal for us. He knows he is a very important player for me. "

united have extended his contract

Agree2 Disagree6

Yep. Looks and sounds like mourinho wants him to stay.

But we also gave nani a 5 year contract before selling him.

If fellaini was to be sold it would make sense activating his contract for an extra year to keep his value up.

On the other hand mourinho might just want him to stay.

12 Jan 2017 21:34:32
Angel,

Exactly the same as I was thinking. If he is going to be sold then activating the extra year puts us in a stronger position to sell. On the other hand maybe Jose sees him as a weapon nobody else possesses. Literally option c when you need it

12 Jan 2017 21:44:30
the thing is people said he would be sold in the summer .
jose said he was an important player.
fellaini came out and said jose had phoned him to tell him he was a player he liked .
he has played a lot of football, looks like jose likes him, while others can't get a game .
people said he would be sold in jan
but jose has come out 2 or 3 times now and backed him and continued to pick him, even when the crowd have been on his back .
you look at the celebration and the 2 look to get on

i do wonder if people think fellaini will be sold just because they want him to be sold?
a lot of people keep saying he will be sold, but what makes them think that, what are the signs that jose wants to sell him?

12 Jan 2017 21:48:44
Stand
I said in the summer he is a Jose player, powerful lad gives 100% does exactly what is asked of him, I gives you a different option .
Also no where near as bad a footballer as many make out

12 Jan 2017 22:17:12
He will be staying.

12 Jan 2017 22:32:43
People kept telling us last year that rooney was a midfielder and better in there than herrera and mata. But the people preacbhig that nonsense at the time have gone quiet on that subject. If Jose really wanted him to stay long term he would have offered him a long term contact not triggered am extention where fellaini had no option. This secured his value to an extent. If we wanted him to stay long term he would be offered a long term contract.
He has done a good squad job this season. Started 9 league games. On a positive note he is s midfielder playing in midfield and he is a better option than playing a striker in there. So it makes sense all round.
Some people Critisise players for moving clubs for a last big payday etc but condone players staying at a club during their prime and only starting about 30% of the league games.
The truth is fellaini is playing at a club way beyond his ability and is happy to be a bit part player in order to stay here and pick up much better wagess than he could playing all the time at his appropriate level. I don't knock him for that. Every club needs its squad players he also gives a different option.
I don't see him here long term and the club's actions do say the same or else they would have given him a new contract not just triggered a clause that protects his value

12 Jan 2017 22:51:15
Rooney played 7 games last season in cm with 2 mom performances, lvg saw him as a better option than bastion and Morgan 2 players who can't get a kick under Jose as well.
Maybe Jose and lvg know something .
Mata has never played cm
Fellaini will nearly be 31 when this contract ends so won't be offered a long term deal .
He has played 22games compared to zlatan 28 although the wig was injured during November.
He won't be long term he is nearly 30

But lvg did play Rooney cm for 7 games, who are we to think we know better from our armchair .
And Jose never sold fellaini in the summer, in fact the opposite he has done nothing but back and pick the player, even if people where convinced he would be sold . Clearly wrong .

I think people mistake what they want to happen to what does happen or will happen.
And when it doesn't can't understand why

12 Jan 2017 23:02:24
Ha ha ha

12 Jan 2017 23:08:22
Ken
Don't forget it was lvg Southgate and woy who played Rooney for a few games at cm .
Some fans could see how at the time he was the best option, or realise that maybe they didn't know better than professional mangers who work with the player.
Also times Change, Carrick was Injured, bastion and Morgan where struggling ( Rooney has played more minutes at cm under Jose than either) Herrera was also struggling in the leg system .
But it did happen where as other keep coming on saying this will happen, he will be sold Tec and it never happens.
I think people believe they know better, and when what they say doesn't happen there has to be an excuse .

Most just express an opinion and realise really we nothing it's just banter

12 Jan 2017 23:14:12
Jred, Rooney is no more a CM than I am. I don't care if it's Jose or anyone, my mind won't be changed on that

12 Jan 2017 23:18:51
Stand
But at the time Jose lvg and Southgate thought he was the best option .
You maybe know better?

12 Jan 2017 23:32:52
Some people just like flogging a dead horse some people just like taking polar opinions to be heard. Like the preverbial empty vessel.
Fellaini is a squad player at best. He will fall further down the pecking order when we can sign the players Jose wants to replace Carrick and be back up / competition to herrera and pogba. I summed it Pretty well above. It's what I think will happen it's my opinion.
Jose has done lots of things I agree with and some things I don't. Most of us post what we would like to happen or what we think will happen. We are right sometimes and wrong sometimes but most don't come on 6 months after the event and say I told you so particularly when they are incorrect anyway and just flogging a dead horse.
Nine league starts none since Nov is hardly a ringing endorsement by Jose. But he has backed fellaini over morgan and bastian as his first midfield substitute personally I think that will change in the summer I Also want it to and the actions of the club this week give me more hope than before that it will happen and he will be sold.

12 Jan 2017 23:35:56
People really do think they know better?
A manager has x amount of players to pick from, he works with them everyday, knows what they can or can't do .
Has worked in football all there lives, are at the top of there game and being played millions because of there expertise .
They don't pick just 11 players they pick a team to carry out a serious of tactical plans not only to enable a team to play a certain way but to counter the opposition.
It's not about is x player this or that, it's about what the best option at the time what's the best for the team . And that changes

And yet fans convince themselves they know better .

If a fans or some fans don't rate a player, fellaini for example they will convince themselves they know just as much if not more than a manager like Jose .

If Jose says I like fellaini they think he is liying.
If fellaini says the manager has phoned me to say I'm a big part of his plans I'm looking forward to the season they don't believe him.

When he isn't sold in the summer it can't be that Jose actually doesn't want to sell him, even if Jose backs him, picks him, defends him, they still think because they don't rate him, either there must be a secret reason or the manager is wrong .
Maybe some if not all don't really know anywhere near as much as Jose etc.
But some are convinced they do

12 Jan 2017 23:51:43
Ken
Flogging a dead horse, you tell us all the time what's going to happen or should I say what u wAnt to happen. Fellaini will be sold in the Summer, in January, next summer.
One day he will be

And if it doesn't you just go on and on .
No rime or reason just "I think" so I will come up with a scenario that suits .
You thought fellaini would be sold in summer, gave anyone stick who posted maybe he wouldn't .
Why do you think he wasn't?

13 Jan 2017 00:03:34
No suitable offer maybe. Jose also preferred him to bastian and Morgan. Pretty simple really.
I remember you telling us that you would lose all faith in Jose and the club if he signed ibra and that he was too old only here for a pay day that he would destroy the dressing room and be a bad influnence

13 Jan 2017 00:40:34
southgate is another yes man who will play his mates and make england a laughing stock

13 Jan 2017 00:44:15
ken
again flogging a dead horse, i said i would lose faith in the united way . he is on a big pay day and wouldn't be here if he wasnt .
no idea about destorying the dressing room
ibra has been great, fantastic but if it was up to me, which it isnt, i wouldn't of bought him .
i didn't want bastion (great player ) alves or sagna either. I like to build for the future, and didn't want any of them for the same reason

i would of loved a quick cf, a interchanging front 3 . but that's my prefrence, jose likes a big powerful cf, a central figure to play around a drogba type and it definitely works in a jose team .

i didn't really want him i wanted griezeman but i can fully understand why jose did and it was no surprise really was it .
truth is i hate a short tearm fix, the idea of signing a 35 year old player on mega wages and maybe not giving youth a chance .
i hate that's the club we are moving towards, spending more, paying more wages than anyone in the world .
but there is more than 1 ways to skin a cat and he is a jose type player and a jose type move .
again its no surprise just like jose using fellaini.
i can fully see why

maybe with grez up top interchanging we would be top of the league playing amazing football, maybe we would be bottom .
but in a united fan i support my players and club .
and am s football fan i can see more than one point of view, not just my own

13 Jan 2017 00:46:13
ken
anything but jose thought different to you and you were wrong .

13 Jan 2017 00:50:52
^wrong post ^

13 Jan 2017 08:10:23
Double standards again Mr wise. It's OK for you to say we shouldn't sign ibra but not ok for me to say we shouldn't keep fellaini. Do you know better than the manager from your armchair on who we should sign better than the man who had worked with him daily how dare you suggest such a thing?

13 Jan 2017 10:51:41
i didn't say we wouldn't sign ibra just i didn't want us to .

like I've said he is a jose player.
but you seem to get mixed up with what you want to happen and what is going to happen
you wanted fellaini sold so you convince yourself he is going to be .

you really do think what you want to happen is going to .
even if it looks very unlikely, even when your clearly wrong you just keep banging the drum, moving the goalpost.
you want something to happen so you make a scerino up in which it will.
maybe your just wrong .

thats why fellaini wasnt sold in the summer or xmas.
but you won't accept that, one day he will be sold tho and then you can say "i was right "
try supporting the player in the mean time

13 Jan 2017 10:58:37
fellaini will be sold
and
i want fellaini sold are to different things .
normally followed by months of slagging the player of to prove your view.
or convince yourself and others

13 Jan 2017 11:52:46
Comedy gold

13 Jan 2017 11:54:51
Maybe Jose like Fellaini's hair? he does look a lot more threatening with the added 6 inches of wig!

I would definitely have my hair in that style if i could (not with the blonde highlights though) .

13 Jan 2017 12:11:25
ken
you really are pal u really are.

13 Jan 2017 12:13:11
the highlights take it to the next level

13 Jan 2017 13:04:35
haha jred, was that an accidental pun? :-)
