Does Jose really think the fans need any geeing up for a game against Liverpool?

Agree2 Disagree2

11 Jan 2017 09:02:25
After LvG's era, everyone needs geeing up!

11 Jan 2017 09:20:27
After the shocking atmosphere last night, yes. It was embarrassing. We'd slam players for only turning up against the big teams, we as fans need to do the same too.

11 Jan 2017 09:24:03
They shouldn't need geeing up for a semi-final either but after last night they clearly do. I'm going to sound old here but here i go. people seem to think going to watch football is all about being entertained these days and hardly ever get out of there seat. In my day (only 42) when i went all the time (early teens to mid 30's) you never sat in it!

The atomsphere last night seemed dead and people were just waiting for us to smash Hull by 4 or 5. This is never normally the case in a semi-final and a bit of singing and getting behind the team might have helped.

1 other League Cup-Semi springs to mind in 92 against Boro. The 1st leg was away and we drew nil nil but good atomsphere and a good night. The 2nd leg was at home and it was 1-1 at full-time. I was in the stretford end seats (stood up of course) and we sang Fergusons red and white army for the whole of extra time! Giggs scored and we won 2-1. Great night and happy days!

I'm glad to hear him say it. A bit of a Roy Keane toe of warning. Weer have a potential 12th mam in the crowd so let's use it and if the crowd are complacent then tell them imo

11 Jan 2017 09:54:30
I disagree, the fans were dead in the first half because the players were passing it around slowly, missing chances and generally giving us nothing to be singig about. Also Hull only filled 1/ 3 of their section which left it feeling a bit empty at their end. Add that to the fact there were thousands of school groups there last night (counting down the last 10 seconds like a hockey game) and the atmosphere was never going to be as good as a 'big' game.

The fans got up about 10 minutes before we scored the first goal and I felt that helped the team when they needed it, seemed to really up the tempo and intensity when the fans felt the players needed it.

Also, if I pay £40+ for a seat I am entitled to sit in it, sing or sit in silence if I want, nothing in the terms and conditions say I have to sing for 90 minutes.

I'm sorry, but if anyone thinks we need a pep talk before the biggest game of our season, against our most hated and historic rivals, then they've obviously never been to a United/ Liverpool game. I know when I've been, I didn't need the manager to prompt me how to behave during the game.

11 Jan 2017 10:14:20
Club should be paying fans to support if they rely on their singing to perform. All the money coming in from sponsorship, tv etc they can afford to pay £40 to loyal supporters to attend and be loud.

Wouldn't that be a nice change!

As it is when they keep hiking prices the passion will leave and be replaced with the theatre going mind-set - those that pay to be entertained!

11 Jan 2017 10:44:57
Beast,

United's tickets have been the same price for the last 5 years mate, no price hike.

11 Jan 2017 10:46:24
I went to a baseball game in new york once, it was like a carnival type circus, panto scene, their was more lights than las vegas. i couldn't believe what was going on. i was waiting for the fans to have a go at each other but no. so i ate a hot dog and left fairly early

11 Jan 2017 11:10:27
If people don't want to go and sing and create an atmopshere they may as well just stay at home and sit in comfort to watch the match. I thought that's what going to the game is all about is it not? I must have missed something!

11 Jan 2017 12:02:40
Its all personal preference but i personally think if you go the game you go to sing and cheer and make a noise!

Never heard anybody say any different until i read the above comments. i'm unfortunately from Stoke so i come from a place that the fans sing loud and proud even if the game is boring or the passing is sideways.

11 Jan 2017 12:26:21
I go to the games and I sing every game but some games just aren't as loud as others and the atmosphere just isn't there. As I said above a small amount of away fans and loads of young kids in the crowd meant the atmosphere was different last night, good to see lots of young kids there though, our future fans getting to go to these type of games is good to see in my opinion.

As has been mentioned nobody needs telling to sing on Sunday, the atmosphere will be electric and I can't wait.

11 Jan 2017 12:46:10
Its the mid-week nerves kicking in now for me and by Sunday Morning i'm a little tetchy :-)

11 Jan 2017 13:05:10
Gds2 was that you on the x factor last year

11 Jan 2017 13:06:03
Just saying, if they can afford to pay players so much and the fans are relied upon they can throw some of that extra cash their way. Have a side of the ground dedicated to "employed fans", people can qualify various ways, but it means the 12th man is guaranteed and some fans that maybe struggle financially get to be as passionate as they want to be.

GDS2 - prices may not have risen for 5 years, but the clubs performance levels have dropped, profits have risen and expenditure on employees has increased. Be a nice gesture to share some of their gains with the people they seem to rely on so much. But it's all take take take, they run it like a business, so more and more fans are treating it like a business. One way of reversing that immediately - but money talks and words come easy.

11 Jan 2017 13:57:37
I think part of it is Mourinho already talking about the game before Liverpool play tonight. If Liverpool are thinking about the game about us on Sunday and not tonight's game, then they get a poor result it's then added pressure to Liverpool. No coincidence he's quick to get it in the media today.

11 Jan 2017 15:34:45
Beast,

Can't tell if you're winding us up, you understand supply and demand I'm sure, why would they pay people when people are willing to pay to go?

11 Jan 2017 17:40:07
GDS2 - But the whole point is the fans can be the 12th man so it is said. I'm sure you all agree on that.

So if the fans stop being the 12th man for whatever reason (boredom, wrong types attracted), surely there can be benefits in guaranteeing that 12th man being in place? How do you do that 100% of the time, by paying for it! Same as they pay for the other 11 men.

I also think it would be nice for the club to show they do care about more things than money, but that isn't my major point and I wouldn't if I owned the club. The key is they have no right to bitch about a quiet crowd, it's all take take take.

Ideally they should have 70,000 people free to enter and then they leave money under their seat as they leave dependent on how satisfied they were with the performance. A kind of pay for service policy, wouldn't that be interesting.

12 Jan 2017 04:58:24
How would you have any way of knowing that the 70,000 that came would make noise?
