Could someone clear up the question of why the hell in this day and age are we still having replays for cup games that have been drawn?

With all the games clubs have to play throughout the season and the tedious international fixtures surely extra time and penalties should be the way to go.

Sponsors of different cup competitions? They should at least have et and maybe penalties though. Or do away with the league cup.

Because for the smaller clubs it is like winning the cup. Drawing with Liverpool at anfield and taking them back to your ground. or scrapping a draw at your own ground and getting to go and play at a top draw stadium.

That is the romance of the cup and long may it continue. Clubs that winge all have huge squads anyway, they should just use them.

Some traditions should not be changed. A good cup draw and potential replay can be the life saver for small clubs.
I take the point but I hippie the replay is here to stay.
Years ago there could have been a few drawn ties and there was no extra time or pens but the changed that a few years back I think and now the first repay must produce a result

Great point Ken. It's massive for those smaller clubs. Fantastic for them!

The payday Plymouth now get from this is huge Maze. That's what's it's all about and rightly so

Because it is one of the things that makes the FA cup special. It is a competiton set up and run for the good of ALL the teams in England and not just the top few.

If your concerned about the number of games top teams have to play then I would suggest that all teams competing in Europe not be entered into the League cup, then maybe give the winners a Europa league place. It would give other teams a real chance of winning a trophy, and with a Europa league place up for grabs a real purpose in trying to win it.

I've also said our 4th UCL place should go to the FA cup winning team unless they have qualified via league position in which case it should go to the runners up. If that was the case you'd find all teams competitng giving it a serious go which should make it a far more interesting competition.

Its attitudes like that which is why many lower league fans despise the premier league. For a lot of clubs the money they make from the 3rd round, especially if on tv makes their season. Which is why the games picked for live coverage were a travesty. Football isn't just ran for the big six you know.

I think it's perfectly fine how it is and if teams can't cope with replays they shouldn't put half a team out and underestimate lower league opposition like a certain team has done 2 years running now. Can't complain about games close together at Christmas and then pick a team that gets you a replay and an extra game.
