Several weeks ago we played West Brom and Zlatan jumped into an opponent, rightly receiving a booking. The commentators brought in Webb to analyse the challenge and he agreed it was a booking. Not satisfied the commentators then asked, well was it "nearly a sending off", this was asked again several times almost showing frustration that one of our players didn't get the red card. The player was hardly hurt yet had a good roll around, he never received any criticism. Later in the game Rashford pushed the ball past McLean and would likely have run in on goal, yet was physically taken out in far more force than Zlatan showed earlier. A yellow card, yet there was no 'nearly' a red, no pushing for greater punishment. One difference was that brilliant skill from Rashford was negated by a Neanderthal tackle, everything the game is about, cut down prevented yet it was Zlatans challenge they hoped to highlight.
Relevance you ask. Fast forward and the West Ham player is in late and high. For me it was a yellow, nearly a red if you like but given it was high and late I can see why he gave a red. There was no witch hunt on the tackler for throwing himself high into a tackle he couldn't win and the outcry about the ref since has been astonishing.

The opposition manager Bilic then has the nerve to condemn our player for play acting. Will the FA do something about that? I believe they should as only Jones knows how much it hurt, but making unsubstantiated claims against one of our players like that is poor. Lastly our own fans accusing Jones is ridiculous, the man went into a tackle for our club and was hit by a late tackle, lucky not to be badly injured. I have been caught by those tackles and they hurt, the ones criticising have likely never been tackled. I recall Ronaldo being told he was play acting and only when he showed a reporter the state of his legs did they back off.
The player got sent off and would not have been if he hadn't jumped in, but it's United that benefitted and that's the issue.

{Ed002's Note - You need to suck it up and move on. There is no conspiracy. Whining like this is embarrassing. Are you a Liverpool fan?}

red man not a conspiracy but a simple case of it being utd it generates controversy, which gets them views/ clicks, if it wasn't zlatan but carroll none would have cared so no reason to stretch it.

03 Jan 2017 16:39:28
It was never a red card. He left the floor though and the ref probably went on Jones' reaction but he did get clattered and it was going to hurt. Jones isn't the player to roll around injured in my eyes. Like it or not, we had two decisions go our way and one against with Zlatans goal ruled out. We have been lucky Rojo hasn't been sent off twice too. Things tend to even themselves out over the season. Every club goes through it but we get more exposure. Simple really.

03 Jan 2017 16:45:37
To be fair, Red Man never used the word conspiracy, simply pointed out a double standard, which I think was accurate. Should we always 'suck it up and move on' or is it okay to sometimes point out injustices/ inconsistencies as we see them? How about we debate and find out if his claim is correct rather than just shutting it down by declaring him wrong? Just a thought.

{Ed002's Note - All you do is whine, bleat and moan like pre-pubescent girls - you seem to be trying to make yourselves more of a laughing stock than the Liverpool fans do of themselves.}

03 Jan 2017 17:35:24
Conspiracy sounds clandestine and that is not what my comment was about. Bias, yes.

The press is not full of 'ABL' - anybody but Liverpool, however is full of ABU and the slant they put on things is obvious. As to whining, if anyone was whining it was Bilic.

{Ed002's Note - You clearly know nothing of the Press.}

03 Jan 2017 17:47:05
Ed002, like RWWD said, he's simply pointing out a very clear double standard. People love to hate United, always have, always will, I actually quite enjoy that fact, simply because it annoys so many football fans when we win.

{Ed002's Note - It is not "double standards" but variations on a theme. And you have now shifted it from "the press" to "people". Again, it is nonsense and a reaffirmation of the complete lack of knowdge that football fans have about the game and the broader business.}

Swings and roundabouts. You get decisions and you miss others. United are good copy and generate interest and debate. Don't ley the paranoia eat you up😂.

03 Jan 2017 18:25:33
Don't forget the pitch, yesterday. Those sneaky Cockneys setting it up to try and stifle our play! Seriously, I know there appears to be a surplus of ex-Liverpool men in the media especially on tv, but you're talking as if this sudden antipathy towards Utd is some new phenomenon that's only appeared once Jose has arrived. It's been like this for years, and we usually just laugh at it and keep on winning things. I don't normally agree with Ed002, but this victim thing you're trying to generate, does makes us sound like Liverpool fans, and I'm having none of it. Forget the media. Just do the job on the pitch and no-one will give two hoots what they're saying about us.

03 Jan 2017 18:32:15
jones rolled around like a girl and there where 4 united players around the ref . not good imo .
it was never a red rojo 2 tackles where twice as bad .

imagine if we had got beat after having a player sent of after 15 minutes and an offside goal.

it works its self out over a season.

03 Jan 2017 18:51:52
did we not go something like 3 year with out giving away a pen at OT once .
the standard of refs at the moment is poor but we have had a good few go our way . not just last night either.

Yes there is an imbalance of ex Liverpool men in the media and the overall bias isn't a new phenomena. I experienced it from the early 70's and particularly did not like the slant of MOTD. Perhaps your comment "we usually just laugh at it and keep on winning things" displays a comment of fans brought up only on success and if I may say, a touch of arrogance.

Jred
I actually thought it was a yellow and decisions do even out, but where is the outrage about McLean or even Kouyate's 2 footed challenge last night?
All I ask is to watch and listen to unbiased press.

03 Jan 2017 19:24:13
why would the press be unbiased they want to sell papers .

{Ed002's Note - It has nothing to do with selling papers - that is an incredibly naive viewpoint.}

03 Jan 2017 19:25:45
should also say i think some of fergys teams got away with murder .

brave ref that gave a decision against united at OT.

03 Jan 2017 19:36:56
read the front page off half the rags and its all rubbish crap with and agenda be it political, racial or what ever .
they may be biased to a political party or ideal, bretix is a good example at the moment .
but imo papers have a heavy biased one way or the other and definitely want to sell papers.

03 Jan 2017 19:48:07
Red Man, were you really supporting Utd in the 70s? I've never heard you mention it! My point, which you've deemed to try and misrepresent, was that the best way to answer any perceived bias, is by doing what we did for years, win things, and ram it back down their throats, Not come on a website whingeing about it. If we're doing well on the pitch, then no-one cares about the media. Let them go on about us all they want. You're trying to make out like it's only Jose that has had to put up with it. Moyes and LVG had to suffer it as well, but I don't recall you moaning about it then.

03 Jan 2017 19:52:36
I honestly couldn't give a shiny rubbish if it was a red or not I'm just happy we got the rub of the green we've been on the end of some dubious decisions and this time it went our way.
I think you could stick a pin in any game this season and you would find a dodgy decision all I care about is that we get our fair share in our favour.

Noucamp

I have made points about bias in the press for a long time whether the manager was lvg, Moyes or Sexton.

03 Jan 2017 20:40:15
Funny. I seem to call a rather dubious story about Rafael, which you used as stick to beat Moyes with. Turns out you totally picked up the wrong end of the stick about the story, but it didn't stop you taking it as gospel at the time, and running with it. If you did comment on the media back then, maybe it just wasn't quite as strident as your comments now Jose is in charge

Things are going ok. The press are having a go at us. which to me, means we're doing something right and people are starting to get worried about us again. I'm happy to leave them to it, rather than trying to generate some sort of victimhood or persecution complex.

03 Jan 2017 22:19:35
Nou

Don't remember that but many stories during Moyes era turned out to have truth behind them. There is a difference between stories in the press, tittle tattle and bias in reporting.

04 Jan 2017 10:27:38
You didn't answer my question. Are we ever allowed to call out and debate things we think have gone against us or should we always suck it up and move on? Does this extend to other activities or is it just football? If we do it in a balanced, low, even and calm voice and not that of a pre-pubescent girl is that allowed? I couldn't be more calm. I don't think there is any conspiracy against us. I do sometimes want to discuss isolated cases when one team seems to have been treated differently than the other. Please help. Need to know the rules.

{Ed002's Note - The rules are simple, if I don't like the way it is going then I will delete the post or thread.}
