I see Moyes talking absolute twaddle again. Does anyone still think he was right for the job?

{Ed004's Note - Did anyone think he was originally?}

He really is so deluded. Bang average manager who was totally out his depth at united. Sacked the back room staff, insulted world class defenders by showing them videos of jagielka defending and he did not have the personality and ego to manage our great club. He's not even good enough to manage Sunderland. Some needs to tell him to have a day off and shut his mouth. Never wanted him as manager and the best decision we ever made was sacking him.

24 Dec 2016 12:17:42
Most know my thoughts, he was my worst nightmare and when appointed I took lots of stick on here when I said what a disaster of a decision it was. I still get it because I had the temerity to outwardly question the appointment from day 1 or actually minus 20, as soon as the rumours began. The moment they confirmed him I sat with my head in my hands and said it was the worst moment since relegation

His deluded drivel means that he may now get a less than graceful welcome on Boxing Day, hopefully we give his team a doing by four and then wave him off with both hands indicating the number of goals.

His comments explain well that he was never ready for the job, it was just too big for someone who displayed such a small time mentality.

24 Dec 2016 13:03:47
I did not, and still doesn't, understand the first rule of holes.

If you are in one, stop digging!

The fact that he keeps popping up ad nauseam says a lot about his sense of self importance. No doubt he always did the job to his own satisfaction. Just lacked the ability.

24 Dec 2016 13:21:09
Is he really talking rubbish though? He was not the right man for the job and should never have been appointed. That is not in question. But what he said about United losing their traditions is probably correct.
Through complacency and lack of investment when it was needed to stay at the top, we have had to throw money at the problem now with too many bad appointments and poor recruitment. The high expectations and demands of instant success have seen us sell our soul to the devil, and where once top players actually wanted to come to United, we now have to persuade them to come with the promise of huge wages and ridiculous transfer fees.
No doubt many will disagree with this, but I do think Moyes has a point.

Betty

Irony is Moyes saying we have gone against our traditions in relation to buying players for high fees whilst bemoaning that we offered £100 and more than Madrid for Bale, plus all those other cheap options he had lined up.

24 Dec 2016 13:45:01
Betty uniteds always spent money. How much did Law cost? How much did Robson? How many times did Sir Alex break the English transfer record?

Money was there for Moyes but he dithered. Missed out on targets and ended up with a player most fans knew didn't fit into our traditions. let's not forget he spent around 65 million on Fellaini and Mata, breaking the clubs transfer record in the process.

So he can't say he wasn't backed in the market. Or that the club spending money is a new thing.

24 Dec 2016 15:43:57
Throughout my lifetime we have broken and rebroken excessive amounts of spending records be it defenders, teenagers, British fee, or world fee. The fact that moyes started the trend of overspending by the club is never included in his interviews, surprisingly. Can't remember exactly the amount but by how many days did we miss the Fellaini buy out? Was that the clubs fault or the indecisive actions of a manager out if his depth? Now I was ready to support him when announced but it was his decisions that led to hos departure. Hindsight shows he was one of the biggest tools to grace our dug out and any words he has to direct at us are from a very bitter and resentful place.

24 Dec 2016 16:02:23
Moyes was always out of his depth here. And even at Everton he underperformed. Lesser clubs won trophies during that time, Moyes won nothing.
To start blubbering on about how he was treated here is pretty pathetic. He inherited a title winning team and club and decided to get rid of a lot of the staff and players and bring in his own staff. Then he compounded the felony by buying fellaini. I was bemused by his comments but couldn't believe how stupid he could be.
Hope our team turns up on Monday and beat Sunderland convincingly. Here's hoping.

24 Dec 2016 14:43:26
I think the point he was making is that United have historically bought players that were right fir the club at any given time, or at least tied to.
Recently we have made 'statement' signings to try and paper over those ever widening gaps with the some intention if showing the world that we are still top dog.

Not trying to defend him as he was wrong for us in every level. But I do agree that we have lost many of our traditions. What is it that all he fans used to say? United make stars.
Now, we just try to buy them. And for way too much money.

24 Dec 2016 17:08:50
Betty

ALL the fans did not say "United make stars" but mainly those fans who excused the Glazers lack of spending. United broke records for many years, Tommy Taylor, Denis Law, there is a long list.

24 Dec 2016 18:07:34
I agree mainly with Betty. Moyes is clearly trying to play some stupid kind of mind games and at the same time trying to excuse his poor performance for us (wouldn't you? ) . You can't expect him to come out and say "I was out of my depth and messed up badly", maybe when he retires he will admit it, but expecting him to not protect himself however feeble it seems, is just deluded.

He is absolutely right in that we have lost that thing that made Utd special of late, we have all been banging on about it for 3+ years (well some of us have) . It may come back, but not if we keep spending £30+m on players that would cost most other teams half the amount and then making statement signings for the brand as opposed to the pitch like several have been under the Woody reign. The fear factor vanished for a few years, it hopefully will come back and I agree with Moyes that Man Utd doesn't mean the same thing that it did before he took over.

We had a recent history of developing young talent, however the past 10 years have been a farce in that area if you ask me. So Moyes is both right and wrong, but like all press statements you have to take it with a pinch of salt. Managers say stupid things, they lie, they try to effect moods - that's why it's all pantomime for me. If they speak the truth they don't seem to last long!

{Ed004's Note - But for the first time in years I am confident that we are finally on the right track Beast. I'm enjoying the football we are playing and the Podcast was even more reassuring as Mourinho is targeting the positions we need to improve and the suggested players were great options. Mourinho has signed older players such as Ibrahimovic and arguably Mkhitarian but also bringing in youthful players as well in Bailly, Pogba and Lindelof. Martial, Shaw and Rashford are still getting plenty of game time when fit (could include Jones here?) - only concern is Mensah but I think that's due to the pressure we were under to get points and he couldn't be risked - while Mourinho has been in constant contact with Periera.
By the end of the next summer transfer window I'm confident we will be in a position to challenge for the league and probably all domestic competitions. I think English teams are still quite far behind in Europe mainly due to Messi and Ronaldo factor - although they won't be around forever and the fact Bayern/Juve etc can rest key players because of how dominate they are in their league - due to lack of competition really
On the Moyes subject I've given up getting frustrated or annoyed with his comments. It's widely agreed that he was the wrong choice and the only thing he succeed in doing was setting us back a few years. He just wasn't good enough for the job. Could anyone honestly see the likes of Pogba and Ibrahimovic signing for Manutd to work under Moyes?}

Agreed Ed - Past few games have been very promising, key players are starting to perform. Potential signings in key positions are refreshing, (need some experience at the back badly imo, probably see more of Darmian with leadership around him as well if he stays) .

I wasn't expecting TFM to get games with Jose unfortunately and I agree again that if we had started better he would have been given more of a chance (along with Rashford up top rather than being a waste of space out wide, don't play him if it isn't up front) . Jose can't afford to break players in, every game is must-win now. It's why we should buy ready made players until we have reasserted ourselves at the top, that's the time to blood players and take punts on players like Depay (even Martial to a degree) for example.

Europa League would have been ideal for blooding the potential, but again rubbish start in that and could be saving grace if we miss out on 4th in the leage for some crazy reason. I've put my money where my mouth is and backed us for the league pre-season and just a couple of weeks ago at 33/ 1. That's how confident I am he is getting it right now.

I'm 10X more hopeful than I have been and it's nice to have that back. I'm thinking 2017 is the year we show the world that we are back and start giving us fans reliable, consistent, entertainment again. Merry Christmas to you and the rest of the guys, off to watch a film with Mrs Beast.

{Ed004's Note - I do think he is prioritising the defence ATM Beast. I have read and heard some really good reviews of Semedo so I'm hoping we push for a move for him and Lindelof looks like it's being finalised so hopefully we will have our defence sorted before pre season even starts and some will even get to bed in. The one really refreshing thing is that Mourinho gets his business done nice early and there is no hesitation.
I don't mind him taking this approach Beast because if he hadn't and we didn't go on a winning streak there, people would be called for his head right about now. Same with the Europa league.
Hopefully that is the case Beast and have a good Christmas!}
