Jose blew it. We had them completely on the ropes, and he takes off our most dangerous attacking player for a defensive mid. Some leads need to be protected, other games can be killed off. They didn't even have to fight to get back into the game, Jose's change immediately put them on the front foot. Pathetic.

Agreed, big mistake by the manager.

19 Nov 2016 14:49:54
Didnt either of you see mata look to bench an was walking gingerly, can't blame the manager for this one rashford for how great a young potental player he is he let the team down at the end.

19 Nov 2016 14:53:31
LVG did the same and got slated last season as well, they never learn. I heard the commentator say that if we lost today it's our worst ever start to an EPL season, (haven't checked), but drawing means we must be equally as bad as our worst season - progress! I was thinking this is the sort of game Jose was brought in to manage, with 10 mins left I was going to post saying "this is good against Arsenal, we just shouldn't play the same way against Sunderland, which is what we do, but this is where he earns his crust". However he then does the same old too defensive move and boom we get punished.

Only has himself to blame, why invite them on us when they have offered nothing all game? Of course they are going to come at us, but we made it easy for them. Moral couldn't be lower now, big game Thursday as well, could be a disaster - I feel physically sick!

19 Nov 2016 15:01:31
Dioutd - Depay, Lingard, Young, all on the bench, all more similar and more suited to the wing than Mata anyway!

19 Nov 2016 15:03:21
i thought mata was injured.

19 Nov 2016 15:06:42
The manager let the team down. They did not have a single chance in the second half until he made the final change. If Mata was injured bring on Memphis and keep the pressure on them. The second we brought on Schneiderlin that tells our players that it's about holding onto the lead and it tells the opposition that we're not going to attack. They immediately took the game to us, and knew they could attack with worrying about us counterattacking.

Jose will claim that it was a defensive error or poor ref decision that cost us, but the truth is that he let them back into the game when they were close to being dead and buried.

19 Nov 2016 15:20:38
You all can't keep blaming the manager ever single time sometimes the players need to stand up and be counted and only mata ander and toni done that today it was 100% rashfords fault he should have stopped that cross but he couldn't be bother, you say he could have brough other wingers on which none of them have been any good mata played right wing beast not lw the goal came from the left were rashford got moved becuase he was having a mare up top.

19 Nov 2016 15:30:44
I said at the time, there's an in-between. I didn't expect us to go at them gung-ho after the goal, but we go the complete opposite, and invite them on to us. You can't do that against a team like Arsenal, with a make-shift defence, no matter how well they'd played up to then. There has to still be an element of ambition to get forward and keep them on the back foot.

19 Nov 2016 15:34:38
I know you're all upset at the result but if he had put an attacking player on and the exact same thing happened you would be saying why didn't we close the game out. They were always going to attack in the last 10 minutes so we tried to play against that, which we did really well until that one cross. Gutted but can see it starting to click, hopefully it's not too late, this team is going to go on a run sooner than later count my words.

GDS2

I am pleased with the way the team is developing. I can actually see a style emerging. We played well against an Arsenal team touted for the title, supposedly going to take us to the cleaners. We were by far the better team and didn't deserve to concede a late goal. I thought the referee was poor at times. I agree this team will go on a run.

It seems the usual crowd jump on the anti Jose bandwagon, now it's his substitutions. He is our third manager and has come into a mess of five years in the making yet because we are not seeing instant success they want him out now. If he stays we have a chance of seeing success, but if he goes it will be turmoil. Time to settle down and watch us develop, I think we are close to getting it right.

19 Nov 2016 16:38:00
Gds2, been saying that for a while I think we will be strong and take some beating once things are cemented, I just hope we can keep the top four in sight and its not to late when we do turn up.

19 Nov 2016 15:51:47
Well said GDS2. Still early days for me. I see many signs for hope. We are beginning to play as a team again. We have been unfortunate a few times, results not matching performances. When Jose arrived I expected to be somewhere in the top third this season and then kick on from there. Realistic expectations that I feel we are on target to meet. Of course I would like things to be better but I just think we should all be patient.

19 Nov 2016 17:02:53
And cue the predictable anti-Jose accusations. Does anyone on here actually believe, whatever our personal feelings about the guy as a person, that we actually want a Utd manager to fail? Seriously?

I know the long-term problems he has to correct, but he also earns his wage managing the little things, the things he can deal with here and now. And today was one just instance. We sat back too much against a poor team, but one who had a dangerous focal point in Giroud, and that was on the direction of the manager. You can gloss over it all you want, but he shouldn't be above criticism for the things he can manage here and now.

19 Nov 2016 19:32:56
Totally agree Stevie, it seems to be forbidden to call a spade a spade at times.

We aren't all knowing, but we can say when a mistake is made and Jose made one because we drew a game we only ever looked like winning. If there had been a like-like substitution made then I would imagine we would have 3 points right now. But we will never know, we do know that what he did didn't work and that is obvious to anybody!

19 Nov 2016 19:36:39
Good post gds. I said in chat we can't keep blaming managerial decisions. If Rashford hadn't let ox past him or blocked the cross, everyone would've been delighted. It was an individual mistake that cost us. Sometimes that's the way it goes!

19 Nov 2016 19:38:56
How people are blaming Jose for that is beyond me.

19 Nov 2016 21:22:22
Each to their own, but if we were losing 1-0 (and deservedly so) then he took off a holding midfielder for an attacking midfielder and we got a draw last minute, we would all be praising Jose for his "tactical" decision!

Let's take away our bias.

He helped shift the onus of the game, if it had worked and we won, great, but we didn't, so he has to take the blame. Jose hasn't built up enough credit yet, some of you treat him like he is SAF. If we had lost today it was the worst ever EPL start after 12 games, credit is earned, not given in desperation in my world.

19 Nov 2016 23:33:22
Beast I don't remember you saying anything positive about utd. Do you even like any part of this club. You criticize players, the manager, the owners, the academy. Maybe you should just watch strictly.

20 Nov 2016 08:09:40
Beast it's not a question of credit. It's been able to stand back objectively and watch a game where we tactically outdone arsenal, much the better team and again an individual mistake cost us the game. Even if it was moves managing yesterday I wouldn't have found him at fault.

The players have consistently not been up to scratch. They have to step up to the plate. 3 managers now and its always their fault.

There is obviously a lot of work being put in and I think we will be around the top come season end.
