I just read that JM said that Rooney played through pain in Europe last week. I sympathize with Roo as I think he is trying to impress us and also trying to get back to form. My respects to him as the captain.
On other hand it can be a double edged sword as he is not fully fit and may create misunderstandings with us fans criticizing him not putting in effort or 100%. Sad that it is such. I wish he makes full recovery and be back to his best soon. We need every skilled and experiences to bring us back to a force to be reckoned with.

I think Captain Wayne needs to make a decision about what sort of player he is. I think he needs to be a bit selfish and focus more on what's best for him.

In my view his best attribute nowadays is his finishing so he should concentrate on being a no 9 and completing with Zlatan. As part of this I also think he should also forget about dropping deep or moving out wide and just get in the box as much as possible. In other words he should just concentrate on sticking the ball in the back of the net.

In addition he should retire from international football.

By doing this Wayne would make life much simpler for himself, prolong his career and in my opinion he would be a much more effective player.

Makes sense AB. However, I wonder if Wazza looks at Shilton's record and how close he is to being England's highest capped player in addition to our top scorer?

8 caps for England and 4 goals for us and he has 2 more prestigious honours to add to his England top scorer record and all 3 will stand a long time. If I were him they would be two goals and then I'd be thinking retirement as it's not as if he's likely to add to his CL/ PL haul.

I don't think he needs to retire completely, I just think it would be a good idea for him to focus on nailing down a position for his club.

After yesterdays limp display from our attacking players, the desire of Rooney would have been very welcome. Whether you rate him or not (please let's not start), I think we all can agree that he at least puts in the effort.

In my view, the best thing for Rooney would be to channel his energies in a specific and disciplined way. I actually think that if he could concern himself with just putting the ball in the net for his club and forget about everything else, he could have a resurgence and would get us some goals.
