I'd like to talk about a little disscussed topic on here.

Jesse Lingard, most people on here it would seem have the impression that he isn't good enough amlnd he needs to be dropped out of the line up.
I'm not so sure that is the case. Granted atm he isn't a world beater but he does so many key and important jobs for our attack. He does all the defensive work asked of him, he does loads of off the ball running which creates the space for our other attackers, and he steps up when needed.

All of our best performances over the last 14 months have come with Jesse on the field, and bar a terrible half against City he has never let us down. And to be fair to him he wasn't fully fit for that game and was badly let down by the poor choice of tactics.

He was key to us winning the FA cup, he followed that up with a man of the match performance against Leicester in the Community shield, he was great agaisnt Leicester in the league too and last night.

He might not be the big name but he is the one who enables them to play to their full potential.

He takes up great positions, he works hard, he has very good technique and he uses the ball well. The only thing he really needs to improve is his shooting accuracy because he should he scoring more goals for the positions he finds himself in.

If he can do that then I seen no reason why we should be looking to replace him in the starting line up.

Lets have a bit more appreciation for one of our own home grown lads.

The only thing I have against him Shaps, is he drifts in and out of games. I think it was about 9 minutes in until I saw him have his first meaningful touch last night. But that is my only criticism of the lad.

End of they day, while not exactly young, he has played for a number of teams but nowhere near this level. he's still learning. He reminds me of Beckham in a way - not world class but very good at what he does. His direct running causes all manner of problems and I think he just the final pass away from being a top player. Once he establishes himself a bit more and adds that last string to his bow, he will be a very useful option for years to come.

The only thing I have against is his goal celebrations. What a load of crap. You'd think he might at least go back and have a look at Lee sharpes shuffle.

Shappy I disagree to an extent. I think Jesse is a useful member of the sqaud and can do a job when called upon. He is an academy kid which also tugs at the heart strings. Although if I am being honest I think that is his level.

He is not and never will be a world beater. I think there is a place for him in the team but for me more marginally on the fringes at this point. I think Ashley Young has more ability than Jesse both on the ball and in terms of work rate.

Agree with you there maze on young having more to his game, but I think that is down to having played regularly in the top flight since he was 18. Young made a good move to villa after his breakthrough with Watford and as such had about 6 top flight seasons under his belt before moving to United. Now lingard is younger than young when he moved to us and doesn't have the same experience that young had at that age but he also isn't far off youngs ability at the same age. I think it was about 23/ 24 that young started to perform at a high standard week in week out yet it was at a mid table villa rather than a top 4 chasing United. Another season of regular involvement will hopefully let lingard develop into the player we have all hoped he would become.

Maze, long term a squad role may well be the best he can achieve. But I think he deserves a real run in the team as I think he could develop, he is a late bloomer. Physically he was always behind his peers at youth level, and has only filled out into his adult body in the last couple of years.

He has plenty going for him, for me all he has to work on is his finishing, I think he rushes his shots.

You need to see the positions he takes up off the ball and the work rate and team effort he puts in to turely appreciate him. I think he is a Mourinho type player, so am hopeful that he will get the game time he needs.

Valuable member of the squad for me, wouldn't look to move him on. Think he can be used in rotation to good effect but we have better players for the first 11 imo.

I like him a lot. He's young, a bit immature but he's living the dream. I think it would help if he tried to bulk up a little, he does get knocked off the ball way too easily. He also needs to stop the ridiculous celebrations, he just looks like a prat.

I agree that Lingard is a good player and a useful squad player. I think he is a few years behind where he should be (not as young as I thought) but that is partly due to mis-management with him over the past few years.
He is definitely part of our future but for me a fully fit Micky in the form he was last year for Dortmund gets in front of him.

Good squad player for me too, useful in certain games, a good option to have.
