I'd wear my England shirt tonight, but I don't think it would contain my excitement.

All Rooneys fault. I think Southgate had to get him on 2nd half to take the attention away from anyone else. If Rooney played like Henderson then there would be a public hanging tomorrow. Henderson handing the armband to Rooney when he came on but Rooney saying no and still getting it. Oh dear.

Supasub. On BBC website, they more or less intimated it's Rooney's fault even when he was sat on the bench. This stupid public hanging of one of the best players England and United have had over the past 10 years has got to stop. It's pathetic.

Doesn't surprise me. Ok, the referee was awful and allowed Slovenia to dive around and put in a few Dury challenges but if that is the best England can provide then international football is dying Imo, or has died a while ago. Henderson as captain who looked awful. Dier, rose, cahill, sturridge and a few others just aren't of a good enough quality. Even stones looked like a pubs league player. None of them have won anything between them including the manager.

In fairness the fact that England are rubbish is not really a sign that international football is dying, England have been rubbish for years now.

back page headline . rooney fails to make impact from the bench.

he only come on for 15 minutes and england should of prob been 3 down by then . some awful performances and that's the headline
you would think he was the only player in the team.

Blaming Rooney for last night is just plain stupid. He may not be the solution anymore but was not the problem last night for sure.

Agreed jred and Ken. The press have got it in for Rooney. And even if he was out injured for a year, they'll still blame England performances on him. It's ridiculous.

12 Oct 2016 11:43:19
Agreed ken. England's problems run much deeper. And i feel they are looking for a scapegoat in Rooney.

THe problem lies within the selection process. I would like to see friendly games where you pick a squad with a fair few players that don't/ haven't been picked before. The problem we have is when players get injured the same old waffle of "well none of these players have international experience" comes up time and time again.
In all honesty it would be refreshing to see a completely different squad picked. We had a poor Euros yet nearly all the players that went their got picked.
It might not be ideal. It it might knock a few players of their perch and just not expect to play of England because they play for the big clubs.
We will continue to fail at the major tournaments because we pick players who sell the most shirts. We line the pockets of the sponsors whilst the players mince around in their football shirts.
There are no players who have the balls to get stuck in.

The whole thing is becoming cringeworthy proper witch hunt.
