The lead Metallurgist on site was lucky enough to meet the king himself Eric Cantona in Malaysia during his R&R last week. He said he was a great guy and took the time to chat with him and his family.

He asked him about the England job as Eric had made smarmy comments about the job in the press a few days prior to which he said Eric replied 'the English media loved me but I do not love the way they treat their national team so much, especially the coach. I would have a better chance of giving up cheese and wine than dealing with the English press. I could maybe do the cheese but I do like the wine! '.

He also asked him about Zlatan being the new king of OT to which he jokingly replied 'I know, you know and your little kid when he grows will know one day there is only one true king of OT. Seriously I like the funny stories of Ibrahimovic as much as anyone but has his stories now made him a little embarrassing? Maybe'.

Before he left he asked him about the upcoming Liverpool game and Eric said 'who is this Liverpool? Oh that's right that's the little team I scored the winning goal in the FA cup against and the men began to cry like little filles (girls) '.

Always a great character. Always will be the greatest player of his generation.

Best I've heard.

Greatest player of his generation your having a laugh! Zidane guillet van basten maldini figo name but a few. Loved him to death but a little perspective please. Great player for a relatively short time here but nowhere near the greatest player of his generation.

The Cantona character is a new one for you. Did he have a sit down to chat with Maze, Rollo, and JMB by any chance?

06 Oct 2016 19:38:53
Ken, I agree, but he was the best I saw at Old Trafford, probably until Ronaldo reached his peak with us. His domestic record in England was incredible, his confidence, his demeanour, his arrogance were simply phenomenal.

Danny I don't understand your jibe mate.

Ken I meant the greatest player of his generation in terms of the guys who graced the surface at OT. On his day though he was more than capable of mixing it with those you have mentioned.

MAZE,

that little tale has made my day especially the Liverpool comment!

Brilliant!

In terms of Manchester United players I agree he was one of our best ever and the impact he made was phenomenal. But he never did it in the major European or international tournaments perhaps left out of French squads because he was difficult to manage more than because of his lack of ability. Shame really but a joy to watch in a football field.

Great story Maze, really enjoyed reading that. Why can't people take it for the story it was, instead of just sniping?

Trolls Redguard.

07 Oct 2016 07:24:34
Trolls usually have multiple accounts, oh wait 😂

Nice story by the way!

Thanks for your input Angel red.

As insightful as ever.

I think Cantona was the greatest player of his generation, when he came to England and won the league with Leeds and then Manchester United, he was the first foreign import to truly change peoples views on additional training after training, healthy lifestyle etc. He also changed the way people viewed the game, suddenly rather than 2 out and out strikers we had a striker who dropped off to receive the ball. Without Cantona we may not of seen Bergkamp, Zola, Di Canio, it may of only been a period of 5 years but in that 5 years, I don't think there was a player close to the King.

Oh I'm sorry maze. I just find it very hard to take anything you say seriously. Forgive me!

07 Oct 2016 16:00:46
Come on angelred, just lighten up and enjoy the story. Its a very good one, and I'm sure its all true. I love a good story.
I remember spending hours as a kid watching Jackanory :)

I forgot Angel you believe everything is a conspiracy theory.

Man Utd wear red - Angelred "there must be a conspiracy theory behind that".

There's an interesting point here. Some people don't read the post, they just see the name and that frames their reply. It's all a bit childish.

08 Oct 2016 08:27:58
Lol sorry Betty, yes I really enjoyed the story. I was actually thinking jackanory myself 😂

Good one there maze, original 😉 Stick to the metallurgy!

08 Oct 2016 11:21:50
I'm not a metallurgist Angel. I am a Geologist.

But thank you all the same.

08 Oct 2016 13:22:30
A schizophrenic Geologist . WOW 😆😆.

08 Oct 2016 13:43:02
Now I'm schizophrenic?

Charming.
