First time I have been able to get on here since the City game as I have been on-site for the past 10 days. There have been many on here writing off Pep and even writing off City for that matter and I hope now they have opened their eyes.

Pep tactically absolutely ripped Jose a new one at Old Trafford last weekend and Kevin De Bruyne and co smashed United in the midfield. I was very disappointed with the way Mourinho approached the game and the way he negatively set up.

This was Jose's first major test of his tenure and he flopped like a fish out of water.

Agree2 Disagree11

It's a difference of attitude and mentality . Jose would go away to one of the other big sides and set his team up not to lose whereas Pep will always send his team out to dominate the game and win, no matter who the opposition are or where the game is being played .
I remember Mourinho and Chelsea coming to Old Trafford early in David Moyes reign and he set his team up to get a point despite the fact that we were quite obviously there for the taking .

It wasn't a tactical masterclass from Pep, far from it actually. Jose just set the team up wrong and individual errors set us on the back foot. City started really well and KDB ripped us apart. Apart from all the possession in the first half, we still should have went in 2-2, and when we made changes in the second half we looked dangerous. Bravo should have been sent off and that might have swung the game in our favour.

This isn't one of those games were I went away feeling angry. We were beat by a team that took their chances and defended valiantly. The narative you're working on about being tactically outclassed isn't there. The great attacking Pep shut up shop and made defensive substitutions with 20 minutes to go. We could have and maybe should have got an equaliser but it wasn't our day.

City have a fantastic team and a great manager but there won't be much between us come May. One of the good things you can take from this game was the fact that Mourinho changed it at half time and wasn't afraid to go for it. Long story short, we were beaten 2-1 by a title rival in a close competitive game.

^^^ Pep made a defensive substitution with 35 plus minutes remaining iirc (Iheanacho) . I do agree that Pep was tactically better. To play Silva and KDB as a midfield 2 against 2 natural CMs in Pig and Wig also shows how many mistakes we made. It's just one of them. We have to swallow our pride and make sure the return fixture is ours.

20 minutes? He took his striker off for a defensive midfielder after 56 minutes, with 34 minutes plus extra time to go.

If Mourinho did that we would have ripped into him for being "negative".

He set his team up to play the same way he always does. Mourinho made a mistake to not match their numbers in midfield and we got flooded, he was also let down by Lingard and Mkhitaryan who were fit enough for the game. Other than that KDB outstanding form was one of the biggest factors.

In fact if Pogba had the kinda of form on the day that KDB had then there is a good chance that we would have won the game.

{Ed041's Note - good post mate.

The funny this is City finished the game with 5 defenders and 2 DM yet it's Jose who is thought of getting in front then playing negative football.

I think that they deserved the win but I feel that its not all doom and gloom.

You win or you learn and I think we can learn something from that game.

Spot on Mumbles nice post.
People like maze won't ever be happy its a fact of life, he only posts when there's something to winge about.

14 Sep 2016 17:35:24
I'm not like Maze but I thought we got spanked and Jose cocked up.

14 Sep 2016 18:17:21
If putting 10 mans behind the ball with 30 mins to go a tactical masterclas then i agree with you.

It is easier to adapt to an attacking philosophy then adapting to what Mourinho is trying to do.

The only surprise about this post is that it wasn't on Saturday at 3pm.

14 Sep 2016 20:19:23
God what a load of tosh we got our arse handed to us for 40 mins it wasn't the first and it won't be the last time and mourihno made a mistake he admitted it and will move on as we all should.

14 Sep 2016 23:27:59
When they had 10 men behind the ball with thirty to go it was only because of an aerial bombardment, not because we dominated them with great football and even at that they had a number of counter attacks where they could have scored with better decision making and also hit the post with one.

15 Sep 2016 10:08:49
bilko
spot on.

15 Sep 2016 10:32:35
Jred just out of interest what does Pep's arse taste like? And how. is it different from Rooney's? Lol.

15 Sep 2016 10:59:51
shaps
i thought you better than that pal?

i think bilko is right, city went up in the game and dropped off played on the break .
united went long, long balls to the wig and ibra and pogs.

15 Sep 2016 11:36:19
Hahaha shappy LMAO off at that! Jred get a sense of humour. Too touchy when it comes to Guardiola and Rooney.

How dare you banter on a banter site shaps!

15 Sep 2016 12:07:08
Jred its a banter site, we are supposed to poke fun at each other a bit.

According to you neither Rooney or Pep can do any wrong. When Pep makes a negative move its tactical genius.

15 Sep 2016 12:13:40
Bilko's posts are right on the money and that is exactly how I saw the game.

Why can't the vast majority on this page take a back seat and look objectively at anything in relation to Man Utd?

If the hierarchy at our club had the same thought process as the 'sunshine and rainbows I love LVG until the final nail in the coffin goes in' brigade United would be in League 2.

15 Sep 2016 12:29:51
bilko
spot on
shaps that was my post

yer it is a banter site but that doesn't mean you have to act like a kid .
who said pep was a genius on saturday?

you told me moyes would have us playing like dourtmund
that lvg was a tactical genius
pep isn't that good
and jose was the wrong man for united .

we maybe shouldn't talk managers, it hard to get any banter on the site, like talking to kids.

15 Sep 2016 12:32:47
maze
because they can't take the red glasses off .

what did bilko say that was so wrong?

15 Sep 2016 12:47:10
Lmao Maze, I love how Mr Pessimism thinks he's objective.

Your "objectivity" has only ever been critism. When we play well, you either find fault or disapear all together. Its funny how you've been too busy to post while we were winning games, but can find the time just after our first defeat.

You really do crack me up. Lol.

15 Sep 2016 14:16:00
Maze, the thing is, you don't look at it objectively at all. You have always been negative since you've started posting under different names. I'd say you're a class half empty type but I think you smashed your glass along time ago.
This is not aimed just at you but at most fans in this day and age. It's all hyperbolic nonsense. If we win we're world beaters, if we lose we're relegation fodder. Your original post is nonsense.
It's nothing about me having rose tinted glasses on. I said Jose got the team selection wrong but he can't factor in how many poor individual performances there would be. We got hammered in the first half. Changed it in the second. On another day we walk away with 3 points. But on the flip side, we could have walked away with a spanking too. That's football. We were narrowly beaten by a team that will be in ear shot of the premier league. No tactical masterclass. No fish out of water. No one deserves to be hung drawn and quartered. We lost, we move onto the next game and learn from our mistakes and I know for a fact, Jose learns from his mistakes!
