Now that the derby dust has settled i will make the post i was going to do last week.
Like everyone else i was pleased with the business we did in the summer but i am still concerned about us not having a natural defensive holding midfield player. I admire fellaini for staying at the club and fighting to prove himself but he isn't a holding player. With liverpool and chelsea away coming up next month i fear that he will again struggle against players that are quick of feet and of mind. I see people like hazard and coutinho playing lots of little passes and 1 2's and fellaini conceding lots of free kicks as he struggles to be in the rigt place at the right time.
Of the players we have i would prefer Blind to be there who i don't see as a natural CH well as he has done so far. I think he as better positional sense than fellaini and would concede less fouls as well as being able to pass the ball forward better. As kante proved last year and Makalele proved yeste year you don't ave to be a man mountain to play in front of the back 4.
Though i say this wit a heavy heart i would have sold Mata and brougt in someone like matuidi. Muc as i like mata i simply don't see were e is going to play once micky is fully fit and settled in and martial as his confidence back. He is probably 4th choice wide player and 3rd choice number 10 and much as he loves utd he just isn't going to get much game time. A better holding player would balance our midfield as neither ander or morgan are really suited to that role.
I am not going to get into the rooney debate but all i would say is that even his detractors couldn't fault the desire and effort he put in during the 2nd half as he put his heart and soul into trying to find an equalizer.
This site is all about opinions and i have shared a few of mine and i look forward to any comments.

We have Herera, Schneidrlin anf Csrrick that can play the holdig mid role as well as Fellaini.

and Blind he's too slow to be the last man.

Carrick is 34 and not a long term solution and both herera and schneiderlain are box to box midfielders not defensive midfielders.

And you think matuidi is a DM? And not a box to box?

I think Blind is very intelligent and would be great in front of the back four but I would worry still about his lack of pace and he might be bypassed by players like fabregas or hazard or coutinho who play quick short passes.

That wasn't the post I was intending on writing. Just goes to show its not a good idea to start an arguement with the misses while your writing a post. Lol.

What I was going to say is I know what Allan means. There is no specialist defensive midfielder in the Makelele mould. We have Carrick and Blind who are more deep playmakers who help shield the back four. Schneiderlin, Hererra and Fellaini are more box to box players.

Matuidi isn't that sort of midfielder either mind, he is very similar to Schneiderlin, puts in a lot of defensive actions but does so by being given the freedom to roam and break things up.

I do think there is a very obvious in house solution though, his name is Timothy Fosu-Mensah. He could be the destroyer in front of the back four that Allan is looking for. I know he's not tested. But if we moved to a 433 it would allow him to make the step up with two more senior and seasoned players alongside him. I think a midfield three of TFM, Herrera and Pogba would be excellent.

I agree with Alan and Shappy, a defensive mid is still missing for those big games (lesser teams our infield can survive without one as we'll dominate play and possession.
I can't wait for TFM to be given a chance at defensive mid as I think he will excel.

I agree Mike. He has the makings of a super midfielder. IMo he is not a right back. I would play him with herrera or morgan with pogba ahead for the moment. Mobility strength and creativity in that midfield. IBra rash and martial would be my front 3 until Miki is fit and ready.
There will be games when fellaini will excel but not against fast mobile players that's where hee gets exposed. Hull palace and the likes are more his opposition. Imo.
