my last bit on the 4 year rooney debate.

the problem is people have drawn a line in the sand, they have been saying he will be dropped for years now .
fergy will sell him .
he doesn't get on with moyes he will sell him .
he is not good enough for lvg .
roy won't pick him
big sam wont.

but it didn't happen, people can make up reasons or excusses but the fact is he is still playing, captain infact of club and country.
and these people who have posted millions of time have been proved wrong that's the simple fact.
so we are in a postion where people need to justifiey there opinion .

for what's it worth, i don't think rooney has been great but he has been good enough to get in the united and england team.
better than kags better than mata for example.
better in cm than bastian or schinders to be honest .
i wouldn't pick him for england i would build for the future .

i would still have him at 10 for united, i think he is a better option than mata and mik was great out wide last season on the right .
zlat could play 10 and rash up top, but i don't think ibra would like that.

mik has pace and got 20 plus goals out wide last season. also not sure he is defensive enough in the 10 role for jose, like mata .
but time will tell
we have a good attacking united, on paper i think jose will go for rooney 10 mik and martial wide ibr top.

but that will change with form etc.

Oh! Not again!

A slightly different approach.
I think most people don't have a problem with rooney the player on the pitch. He has been in a state of decline, that is for everyone to see.
And the players you mention haven't exactly lit up the league. Now, the issue is each and every one of those players can be and has been dropped to the bench whenever their performances haven't been adequate. Do you who hasn't been dropped despite the below average performances? That is the big issue here. And its not even rooneys fault. I'd rather blame the managers. And all that accumulates into hatred and comes out on the player.
If rooney gave a bad performance and found himself on the bench like mata, kagawa, Schneiderlin, hererra, fewer people would have issues.
Instead what happens is the entire structure of the attack has to be changed to accommodate one player who apparently can't be dropped. This requires other players to often play out of position and then get blamed for their play.
Same thing applies for England. When you make a player undroppable, and basically build your team so as to accommodate that player, then the expectations people would have from him will obviously be very very high.

Couldn't put it better imbs, no one's been proven wrong jred. Fergie wanted him gone at the end of his tenure, there was no other reason for the transfer request parting gift from him. Moyes dithered as with all his things, 1 of lvg's criticism from fans was his "my captain shall always play" edict. Woy was the only other idiot apart from van gaal to see rooney in mf. Jose does not agree with both so is he wrong or were they. And as i have said to those who are complaining about kids not being played, i will say the same to u, it has only been 3 games.

Though personally i don't think we will see jose drop rooney until latter part of the season and then may be sold. As wayne at utd is like cassillas or terry, u can't drop them for prolonged periods as they have far too much influence on dressing room. U have got to get rid of them entirely or it can be a big mess as jose and vilas boas found out.

Common sense common sense.

What have you done Jred?!

For me he deserved to start the season at 10. He has done enough to keep his place so far. I would bring in Rashford left and Miki right for some games before dropping Rooney at this point.

Martial has been poor presumably due to off field issues. Mata has done okay, but Miki is pushing him hard and has more pace. They are both excellent impact players due to pace and performance. Not sure Mata and Martial would offer the same from the bench.

I am very excited about all the options Jose has. If Rooney dips in form I'm sure Jose will act. He's not there yet though.

Wayne Rooney is our captain and number 10 for the present moment. Whether or not he should be in the side in my opinion is irrelevant because Jose is not a David Moyes who dosent have his own mind and he will no pander to fans voices. If he thinks it's the right call to pick him then that's what's going to happen. No point whatsoever going over the should he or shouldn't he be in the team because it's been done to death. Let's Just all get behind him and want him to perform, it's like some fans want him to perform poor so they can critisize him, make no mistake if he's not performing up to scratch then Jose has the courage to drop him something nobody has done since sir Alex.

Jred makes some good points. On the other hand, however, Wayne Poohney been stinking up old Trafford for the last two seasons. Pooh.

obsession mate. Get over, so boring at this stage your staunch defence. We can criticise him when he has played badly, which has been quite frequent over the past number of years, you just need to respect those opinions and not berate them because you put yourself in the same bracket as jose. I pissed myself laughing at that one.

Great points imightbesomeone and common sense.

Jred, call me an aul cynic, but I'll wager that's not your last input on the subject :)

In my view Rooney is playing for one key reason - Mourinho lost the dressing room at Chelsea, he will have learnt from that. Rooney is well liked it seems, he has been club captain and knows the club inside and out, for Mourinho to do what was needed to be done it would open himself up to potentially massive problems (AVB style) .

Mourinho's football is about not losing and doing whatever it takes to win in the end. Playing Rooney means he doesn't lose the dressing room and it's a small price to play, Rooney will dig his own grave in my view. Especially once players like Zlatan get their feet under the table and less emphasis is paid to Rooney at the club and in the media.

Personally I would have told Rooney he has no future at the club and let the wimps/ underachievers in our squad come at me (they don't have a leg to stand on over the past 3 years), the best time was when he first took over. It will be interesting to see what happens, but it seems managers are scared to upset Rooney, he isn't good enough to have special treatment, his performances are rarely above average, yet he captains club and country under 5 managers - something is fishy to me.

I want him to perform when he plays, but he is like "0010 - License to play poorly". The only decent manager to pick him is Mourinho and I think the reason is as explained, as for Allardyce, Hodgson, Moyes and LVG - well those names are not exactly filling me with confidence about how good Wayne is, just about how sheepish/ deluded they are.

{Ed004's Note - I would agree 100% with that Beast. Eventually the emergence of Rashford or Mkhitarian etc will force the managers hand into dropping Rooney. He has already been subbed off a few times already this season and maybe I'm reading to much into that, but it just seems a matter of time before he's a squad/back up player and then eventually sold}

30 Aug 2016 17:16:05
Spot on beast I'm in 100% agreement with that. Jose is being clever he is no fool.

30 Aug 2016 18:13:59
Wayne always does the illuminati thing when he scores. Probably one for the conspiracy pages but I reckon the "powers that be" have made it impossible to drop him.

30 Aug 2016 19:05:23
beast
is some thing fishy or have you just called it wrong over rooney these past few year.

stretc1980 good post but you won't get a few on here to support the players they are more interested in being proved right .

firebear
You could be onto something there, he's been doing it for about 3 years now.
