Guys it's the first game of the season it's encouraging for sure but it's premature and also smacks of arrogance to claim already that we will be champions. No wonder many fans hate us.
Liverpool have the makings of a very good team with an inspirational coach and no European football to distract them. Ditto Chelsea. Arsenal must surely get a striker and central defender in and will be much better for it. City will also improve under Pep. So please let's not crow just yet. Banter away it's great fun but I would feel much more confident if we had another top top centre back as well as Bailly and Mike (err CHRIS) Remember the old saying it's not over til the fat lady sings.

Mate, I don't think anyone on here seriously believes we're going to win the league on the back of one performance. It's a big improvement, tho, on the fare we've been served up for a few seasons, and it's nice to be able to say that again.

I put a few hundred on us before the Charity Shield, it's not arrogance to think we will win the league, it's to be expected. We have the best manager, players with something to prove, major investment in key areas, big squad, no CL (fresher as we can rotate), fear factor with acquisitions and history which does count a bit despite the damage done by Moyes and LVG. More to come as well imo.

Liverpool will be our main threat I have been saying it for a while, don't let our distaste for them cloud our judgement. They have the second best manager and we will be Bayern to their Dortmund imo.

Jeez we are united and there is a reason people hate us because of us being confident and at this moment we have to back the team to win it.

I somt think we would have signed pogba, zlatan and mkhitaryan if we weren't going to be challenging.

I can see liverpool being good though and will challenge.

City will take time to get used to Guardiolas play.

Arsenal are just so arrogant and Wenger needs to stop being stubborn and buy the players they need, but i homestly believe Wemger is not buying any players because he wants to let the next manager build the team he wants.

Chelsea is unknown they could well be challenging or they could finish outside top 4.

Best Manager? . Then why were you all gutted when we got Klopp.

15 Aug 2016 00:16:54
Because Klopp is better than LVG. Simples.

15 Aug 2016 01:19:49
Yes we shouldn't be raving about us after just one game but that stands for you too mate. All the other teams you mentioned have also played that solitary game. Liverpool won't be that great I feel. Arsenal played without a defender and hence were there for the taking.

They beat Arsenal reserves and now everybody is saying they said along they will challenge for the title, it was one game and they conceded 3 goals and Arsenal missed a penalty!

{Ed001's Note - you do realise that if that was Arsenal reserves then it was also Liverpool's reserves? Stupid comment to be honest. Liverpool had second choice keeper, left back, right sided centre back and striker. Arsenal were only missing centre backs, the rest was Arsene's picks to start without the big summer signing and Ozil and Giroud. All three were fit to start.}

Agree with ed,

I think its the Klipp factor and the players wanting to play for him.

He really is close to his players and it instills confidence in players.

Players that are good will g the extra mile because of the feel good factor from Klopp.

Fergies last title winning team had less talented players then what Klopp has at his disposal.

Ed001 normally i agree with u but how was that liverpool reserves, keeper yes but who is u r first choice cb who did not play, sakho looks to be on his way out so can't be first choice. You have no better lb, u may be trying to buy 1 but until u do he is the best u have got. Sturridge has played less than 15 pl games a season in 2 of the 3 seasons he has been with u, first choice yes but his injury record tells me u better get used to seeing someone else upfront.

{Ed001's Note - that was my point, neither were playing reserves. Matip is first choice centre back, Klavan was bought to replace Sakho. Milner is now first choice left back, he was injured, Moreno is not the first choice there. Sturridge is first choice striker, no matter how often he is injured, he has less injuries than most of the Arsenal players missing, but the ones in the team were being referred to as reserves. Seems you are missing the point mate. I was saying neither were playing reserves, it was the best available teams out there on the day.}

At least you didn't bite Ed, that's all that matters!

{Ed001's Note - it was just a dumb comment that deserved to be criticised. I expect better of you, though you so often disappoint.... ;-)

15 Aug 2016 12:53:55
It obviously wasn't a reserve team, I was just winding up the Liverpool fans who seem to come over here after you win a game and make things up about how we all thought Klopp was better than Jose.

I don't expect you to get wound up so easily and call me stupid, it was all a bit too easy.

Arsenal were missing a lot of important players though weren't they? Both of their centre halves were out and their only recognised striker, as well as their highest assister from last season. Not quite a reserve side but a very good time to play them, and they still scored 3 and missed a penalty. Not much to argue with there?

{Ed001's Note - as I pointed out, that was down to Wenger in the main, who chose not to pick most of the players, rather than them being out. I never called you stupid, I called your comment stupid, it seems you are the one getting wound up la. But I expect that of you, as most of your comments tend to be when you are wound up over anyone having anything to say different to you. It is the first game of the season, no team is fully prepared, but at least it was an interesting game, rather than making LVG seem like an all out attacking manager like every other game of the weekend.}

15 Aug 2016 13:27:11
Milner is first choice left back? Oh dear.

15 Aug 2016 13:53:58
I loved the game, from a neutral point of view it was fantastic to watch, I also had £50 on both teams to score in the first half so was delighted when Coutinho scored.

I definitely never get wound up about anything anybody says on a website Ed and certainly not wound up now, good effort though. I love this site, love other peoples opinions and love giving my own if i disagree with others, that is what football is about. Just because we beat the Bournemouth first team and you beat Arsenal's under 14s doesn't mean you have to be angry ;)

{Ed001's Note - made a nice change from last season when their reserves gave you a tanking I am sure. By the way, have to ask, why is Eddie Howe so highly rated? He is another Brendan Rodgers/Roberto Martinez. Lots of passing the ball around but no organisation at the back and no attacking threat at all. They spend plenty of money, so it is not a lack of funds.}
