you can tell its a pep team as soon as city attack he has his full backs playing infront of his cbs .
very clever manager.

The pundit love in has commenced in the BT studio and commentary box, city could play as bad you like and scrape a win and it'd be amazing cz it's the messiah Pep.

13 Aug 2016 18:33:50
Yeah when they quicken up and start to click better it could be very scary. The one bonus for us is that they still look very vulnerable at the back, even against Sunderland I have the feeling they could ship a goal at any time.

13 Aug 2016 18:35:53
That tactic will get them ripped apart by a team with decent wingers. Pep is a young version of lvg he'll get found out in the epl.

13 Aug 2016 18:36:20
Still a lot of emty seats
I thought the would fill it for peps home debut.

13 Aug 2016 18:46:55
welsh
im watching it on a stream so can't understand a word, that's probably a good thing.
got to say its very clever tho, all about space .
hasnt really clicked, be interesting
to see if it does.

{Ed004's Note - I dont think it'll work versus the top teams. They will be exploited in the wide areas as he doesn't have centre backs that are good enough to be fullbacks which will be required of them. Also Sagna and Clichy aren't good enough to be central midfielders in possession they just look to put it out wide straight away. They've created very little so far today and been extremely boring to watch. They're also a very small team which can be a problem against a lot of teams in the league. A reason Van Gaal had to play Fellaini at times}

13 Aug 2016 18:54:13
I hope he plays that same side in that style every week. Wide open and really weak. No doubt they will improve and they do have a couple to come into that 11. But I'd be hsppy to play that 11 in a few weeks time.

13 Aug 2016 19:01:10

i think sagna has played well.

pep always does something others don't i have a feeling he will prove u wrong .
its the first game of the season so i'm not sure what your expecting .

i think there is a lot to be impressed with.

13 Aug 2016 19:21:36
See what I said about decent wingers? Januzaj has just come on he's caused them problems even had a hand in defoes goal. This style he's playing will come undone against the big teams.

13 Aug 2016 19:25:10
i think city will do well this year .
its a big change so a lot to work on but there is a reason english teams have struggled in europe of late .
tactic wise we are behind the best in europe city won't be.

13 Aug 2016 19:32:45
Personally not that impressed, so much hype and u win at home against a weak Sunderland team through a penalty and an og, lot of the time felt like watching an lvg team, lot of possession but very little to show for it in the final third. Also i hope they play this back 4 the same way they are doing today through the season, especially against top 6.

13 Aug 2016 19:44:21
I may be mistaken but didn't his bayern side do the same thing in bundesliga many times with lahm and alaba. Pep might be a great coach but it would be a miracle akin to liverpool winning the league if he manages to turn clichy and sagna into alaba or lahm.

13 Aug 2016 19:46:35
a lot to like imo and i think a few would have a different opinion if pep was at united and in the first game of the season you could see the style of play we where trying for.

maybe a few above a right but i think city will do well this year, be right up there .
time will tell.

13 Aug 2016 19:48:19
common
yer he did, it worked pretty well.

all about making space.

13 Aug 2016 19:59:28
i thought adan done ok as well.

13 Aug 2016 20:01:42
Not sure that system will work in the PL against teams who have some real quality in the final third. Just my opinion.

To be honest, I thought City looked a bit all over the place. I suppose that will happen until they click.

13 Aug 2016 20:16:12
Lvd part 2 . The only difference between Vangaal and Guardiola is that Guardiola is a bit more offensive .

13 Aug 2016 20:43:04
every top team plays possession footy.

13 Aug 2016 20:52:55
Heyneckes Bayern hammered Pep's Barcelona home and away because they had amazing wingers and a striker (Müller) who bullied the defence. Now there's not many Mullers around but strong strikers and good wingers are the undoing of any pep team.

13 Aug 2016 21:27:17
heyneckes munich won the treble and beat everyone.
it was an excellent team it was the undoing of any team in europe.

13 Aug 2016 22:59:25
Agreed. I take the Micky out of my City pals calling him
LVG2.

13 Aug 2016 23:21:06
i know we are all man united fans but are there no football fans as well.
pep barce where maybe the best club team i have seen.
his munich team where great to watch, no other team played like them.
city have a lot of work to do but today they tried to play a way yhat i haven't seen in the epl.

im a big jose fan but most would admit his team are not always the best to watch .

13 Aug 2016 23:50:58
Jred, Pep has proven himself to be a top top coach. His Barcelona team played some wonderful football, and Bayern did too at times. Personally I prefered the style Bayern played under Heyneckes. But each to their own.

But to be licking the chocolate out od Pep's arse based on that City performance today is just a wee bit fan boy, rather than football connoisseur.

City were poor and only beat a pretty middle of the road Sunderland side due to a little luck with the decisons and a lucky own goal. Granted its the first game of the season, amd everyone will still be a little rusty and not firing on all cylinders yet, and for the bew coaches it might be a little early for their methods to "click" with their new players. But City were wide open in defence, and very poorly organised at the back, they were okay going forward, and pretty average in the middle. Like I said early in the season but I didn't learn anything new from that game.

13 Aug 2016 23:53:40
I always found Barcelona horrific to watch.

Loved watching Messi, Xavi and Ineista combine though. But the 80 mins of sideway ball rotation was painful.

I remember "supporting" Chelsea against them.

Thought Klopps Dortmund and Jupp H's teams played better stuff.

Pep does come across well though.

Teams I liked watching are Utd 97-00, Utd 05-09, Chelsea with 04-06 - Power and pace!

13 Aug 2016 23:55:53
Jred,

Peps Barcelona team was one that my nan could've won the treble with, (god rest her soul) . They had the arguably the greatest player ever been, Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol, Pique and Eto all at the top of there game. Granted he implemented some good play, but could he have done that at Jose's inter Milan team? Or Porto?

The Bayern team was a treble winning team, which he added to, and you could say they regressed under him.

Some people seem to think the grass is always greener on the other side. No matter how well we recruit (arguably the best players in Germany, France, and Italy), or if we get the most decorated manager of modern times, or if we did all that in one window, they will always pick faults.

14 Aug 2016 00:21:38
"but to be licking the chocolate out od Pep's arse based on that City performance today is just a wee bit fan boy"

i think that's a bit beneath u pal i thought u liked the tactics of football.

licking his arse? i said i liked the way he set his team up, i haven't seen that in the epl .
i said they have a lot of work to do .
pulling sagna and clichey in to play 3 2 4 1and other formations was clever and tactic wise different to what you see in the epl.
pep always sets a team up that makes you think, that's diffetent, its really clever.

i don't think city played that well today to be honest .
"
But to be licking the chocolate out od Pep's arse based on that City performance today is just a wee bit fan boy, rather than football connoisseur. "

im not a fan boy but i can see when a manger is trying to do something no one else does and understand that's a bit special.

you like to come over as a "football connoisseur"

but let yourself down in that post imo.

we have disagreed over jose before . i'm a big fan your not can't wait to read your opinion on united .

we will play like chelsea did.

14 Aug 2016 01:55:29
I don't see what's so clever about it. Thank god we never got him or i'd have become maze Mk 2.
