Celtic Fan ( in peace guys) .
On the whole Pogba issue, does anyone really think he is worth £100m. I know Celtic play in a different money scale and that's fine, but I would have rather looked at Bale and player for that amount.
Just don't think he's worth it.

Not looking for an argument just thoughts?

{Ed041's Note - is bale available though? In short no he is not worth it at all but that is the going rate. Juve just signed Higuin for €75m he was not worth it. Football is crazy mate.

Agree1 Disagree0

Cprs1 bale wasn't available I don't believe.
If he was I'm sure United would be interested.
You can only buy who is available. Plus midfield is an area that we have needed to fix properly since Fergies last days, long overdue.
As Ed says the market is crazy, so much to and other sponsorship money available the prices are inflated. It's not just football. You see it in other sports too.

Juve are very smart in their transfer dealings. with Higuain and their other signings they will be a genuine favourite for CL and that is even with losing Pogba as he is not that key to their set up.

25 Jul 2016 09:12:04
Mane, Andre Gomez, Wijnaldum, just off top of my head, all overpriced.

25 Jul 2016 09:14:42
Effectively Juve will have upgraded their midfield and forward line without spending a penny. Pjanic is currently a better player than Pogba and Higuian is a far better player than Morata or Mandzukic.

25 Jul 2016 09:29:00
Pjanic is mot better than pogba imo.

25 Jul 2016 09:34:04
No footballer is worth the money that's payed for them but that's the way football is going. But is there anything you or I could do about it?

25 Jul 2016 09:57:16
I feel we should have gone in for Pjanic and at that price he's a steal. We let the door open for Juve to sign him hoping Pogba deal would be sorted out.

25 Jul 2016 10:40:35
Files juve will not be favourites and nit by a long way. Pogba was key he was their chief chance maker and leading scorer from midfield. Your simply not a fan of pogba but try not to make stuff up.

25 Jul 2016 10:57:50
I have always liked how Juventus do there business in the transfer window and the players they bring in. However, for whatever reason it is not easy for every team to do It the same way.
The impact on Juventus of Pogba leaving will be limited due to what they have and Pjanic coming in. however the impact he will have on our team will be huge.
I am trying to ignore value as I don't believe even the Messi's of the world are worth that money but that is the world we are in now.
That said Pogba will be massive for us if he comes.

How many juve games did you watch last year. do you even know he did not start in midseason from them as Marchisio was preferred until he had an injury. I am a fan but never at what we are paying and i think we are turning into the country pumpkins of club football.

With their additions especially if Higuain comes in and what they have already got they can play anyone. Their back 4 is unbelievably good and they struggled with creating enough goals last year and won a lot of games 1-0. They will be a lot more potent going forward and Panic for me is tailor made for them as he is much more instrumental and key point of a midfield for 90 minutes. Have a look at Panic's stats and then you can decide if they will miss much with Pogba gone. He actually scored more goals in a team inferior team.

Juve lost one final 2 years ago and one got knocked out last year in the quarters against Bayern. If you look at the traditional fav like Barcelona and Real, both are aging teams with lots of areas that needs to be addressed. If they get Higuain, I will bet them to win it along with Bayern as my 2 fav.

I don't question for a minute he will improve us I just think the fee is nuts and he is not a game changer for them or when he joins us. It look like we will sign him anyway and we can debate his worth during the season, time will tell.

Pjanic at this moment is playing at a higher standard on a more consistent basis than Pogba is managing. So yes atm Pjanic is a better player than Pogba.

Obviously Pjanic is in his prime and Pogba is 3-4 years away from hitting his, and he has a far higher ceiling based on his natural talents. I have every confidence that come the end of their respective careers Pogba will he considered the better player.

Last season Pjanic was the best creative midfielder in Italy, Pogba was good, great at times and anonymous at others.

Its like comparing Griezmann and Martial, Martial has far more potential, but Greizmann is actually performing and making a difference in every game.

Juve will be a stronger team next season even without Pogba than they were last season.

Twice live and half a dozen games on tv x files. He was top class in most of those games. I saw Roma live twice too and pajnic wad also great. Pogba more suited to people I believe. Jive have no major competition a bit like bayern and psg so they will dominate domestically again but aak any bookie they will not be favourites sand not by a long way look at the odds.

I can't argue with with any of that. The only thing I would differ on is that for a reported 100 million the players has the to be already there. if we are buying on ceiling then the guy Dortmund bought Dembele is a steal and I think he has tremendous potential.

I think its okay to pay a highish fee for the likes of Renato Sanches, Dembele, Costa from Bayern as they tend to double and triple their value when things progress as expected or hoped for.

The risk with paying a world record fee for potential or ceiling as you put it, most looking back will look like poor investments. That sort of money is generally paid for an established dominant players, who is a top 3 forward on the planet with 30 goals a season or is let's say the best midfielder without question in the world.

He will make us better as a team but for a 100 million he needs to make us more than better. I still believe we could have spent that money better on adding 2 or 3 top players, who would have improved us as a team even more without the circus act that Pogba brings with him.

One thing people seem to forget is that if for some reason he struggles and knowing mourinho he will drop him and play who he wants, the media and his agent will have us for lunch everyday and between him and Depay's shenanigans we could be in for a season of tabloids and rumours that will be very destabilising when you also have someone like Mourinho who is not shy of controversy.

I realise i am in the minority here as is the case with all transfers, which the fan base seems to want at any cost but our recent transfer history worries me.

Files and Shappy, your arguments are seriously flawed.

How can you mentuon a player scoring more goals than another, yet fail to mention how a good number of these were freekicks/ penalties. He scored 5 freekicks and 2 penalties. Yet Pogba scored 2 freekicks and one penalty. Is this a logical comparison. I mean It Pjanic is obviously better than Ronaldo and Messi because he scored more freekicks.

Pjanic took every freekick for Roma, in both shooting and crossing scenarios.
Pogba got the joint most assists in Serie A last season, alongside Miralem Pjanic. So surely he's "the most creative player" too. No.

If we wanted a player who can sit back and ping a pass forward, sideways, backwards, or even switched, we would have stuck with Bastian/ Carrick or went for somebody like Pjanic. However, I think it's pretty obvious we aren't going for that style of player. We want a midfielder who can take the ball and have the ability to pick the pass or take the ball forward himself. Honestly, there's nobody better than Paul Pogba. Man City we brilliant at this with Toure, that's the type of player Pogba is. Pogba had 102 take ons compared to Pjanic's 26. However Pjanic had more passes.

Stats are flawed, try not to use them as they are so useless as they do not portray situations. For example, at hattrick in a 5-0 is very different to a hattrick in a 3-2. Or an assist against a team who has conceded 100 goals is very different to an assist against a team who have conceded 20.

At the end of the day, do I think Pogba is worth the money we're supposedly paying? No. Does Jose? Yes. How many trophies have I won? 0. How many has Jose? I rest my case.

We should be proud that if there's a player our manager wants that we as a club can go and do whatever it possibly takes to get him. I don't understand why some people seem almost embarrassed by it, like we're afraid our friends who support other teams are going to poke fun. It's not my money. I'll be over the moon if we sign him.

25 Jul 2016 16:31:18
Mpez

Not flawed if you have watched both a lot. not in my lifetime there is a 75 million pound difference between the 2 and i think we have gone mad. I think people who think we are getting a Buggati Veron might realise we got a ferrari instead. Both incredible cars but one a very unique car and already established as the a one off. Anyways hope he comes and we get to debate the value from his performances.

25 Jul 2016 16:41:23
Mpez, I think Pogba is a very good player, with the potential to be amazing. But in no universe is he worth 100m.

I don't get this arguement that its okay to spend such a large amount if Jose thinks its okay. Its not Jose's money, do you really think he gives a rats arse about a clubs finances other than can they pay him, and can they buy the players he wants.

Maybe I think my employer should give all employees a new car and a holiday home. I don't give a crap if the company goes bust in a couple of years because of that. I'll have my new car and my holiday home and just move on to work for someone else.

I also don't get the arguement that the fans aren't paying for him so they shouldn't worry. Well I'm glad tickets to watch United are now free, as are club merchandise and sky subsciptions too. Every penny you spend to watch our club goes into our club. Where do you think the money comes from?
Sponsoship deals only happen because a vast numbet of fans are prepared to pay to watch the club.
If you complain when your government miss spend the hard earn taxes you paid in, then damn right football fans can question the sense of the club spending such a large amount on a player with the hard earn money those fans have invested into the club.

25 Jul 2016 17:46:32
Shappy, well in that case I hope we don't buy Pogba as our ticket prices and merchandise are going to sky rocket. Don't be silly, our buying of Paul Pogba will have no influence on any of that.

Also, I must have been out on the day the Glazers turned up to my door and put a gun to my head to buy tickets and merchandise. Fortunately I didn't get that treatment, but mate I deeply sympathise with you for them doing that to you, and I hope you are ok. Next time organize overtime in work so you don't have to pay for the same shirt price and ticket price when Pogba does/ doesn't sign!

26 Jul 2016 00:40:35
Well said mpez.
