All this talk of £100million offer on the table for Paul Pogba is in reality sad for the club.

Dress it up whatever way you like but over the past few seasons especially we have become what we hated.

We have become a combination of a Madrid and a Man City. Paying over the top wages and throwing as much cash as we can to try win trophies.

What a load of tripe. How many times did Sir Alex break our transfer record?

We've always bought big when we needed too.

13 Jul 2016 12:24:35
When you don't buy players people complain an when you do go for top top players people still have a moan.

13 Jul 2016 12:27:35
The problem is Maze, we are not in the Champions League, we are not currently Champions of our league and therefore we need to offer more to convince the players to come to us and the selling clubs know this. For me, if Real Madrid, Barcelona, Man City are all after or were interested in Pogba then that suggests to me that he is the type of player we should also be interested in but this will mean we need to offer more transfer and higher wages. Personally I would steer clear of Pogba for the money being thrown about but if we are to compete for the same calibre of player as RM and Barcelona than we will be expected to offer more. Until we get back to what we were, we prob have to accept until hopefully at least next season anyway we may be paying over the odds.

13 Jul 2016 12:30:11
Nonsense my friend, no one has ever had an issue with clubs spending big. The issue was always where the money was coming from. City and Real Madrid have had major help with buying players. Real Madrid had help from their government and City via a billionaire Sheikh. If MU can afford to buy a £100m player without outside help, then what's the problem?

13 Jul 2016 12:47:22
Sydney! Regardless of where the money is coming from this club was built on the legacy of local lads and grassroots football which is nothing short of dying at the moment.

Like Ports states above United have no CL yet the Zlatans, Miki's and possibly Pogba's of the modern game have turned their backs on playing at the ultimate level and for what? Money of course.

I don't care where the money comes from. Wether that be a rich Arab, a sketchy government or from the cashing in on club assets. Like everyone else I like to see the best players at United but not financially cold mercenaries and I have always thought this club better than our rivals when incorporating our own into the first team.

13 Jul 2016 13:04:49
Unfortunately you are living in a time that no longer exists JMB. It would be lovely and dandy for a whole other class of 92 to come along but that's not happening and if you want to see us stay in the upper echelons of football you are going to have to get used to seeing us pay big money.

13 Jul 2016 13:17:47
Didnt something like 9-10 youngsters make their debuts last season?

13 Jul 2016 13:19:10
Like last season when the club incorporated our own into the squad but you spent all season slating the guy who did it.

Are just going to get another 10 months of hypocritical nonsense again because let me know.

13 Jul 2016 13:33:31
Rosie I am fully aware times have changed but when you have seemingly unlimited resources, the top coach in the football and a bagful of world class back room staff surely looking to grassroots football and getting the academy on the track the way it was in the 90's isn't too much to ask.

DSG don't let numbers fool you. Other than Rashford none of those players where, are or will be good enough for United long term. Mensah may yet find his way into the first team but again he is a foreign national.

There is talent in this country and that of our neighbouring nations. A club like United should be headhunting and nurturing this talent from an earlier age.

The road we have gone down over the past few years means it is ultimately hypocritical to attack a club like City for buying success when we are shopping in the same department store.

13 Jul 2016 13:33:36
Shh DSG, that kind of talk does not fit JMBs agenda.

We always bought big, valuations have gone up and we have to follow it or miss out on the big players.

We spend our money, we hate teams that are few money from big billionaire buyers. If we spend 100M, it's 100M that this club earned. So either spend it, give it to the glazers or let it sit in the bank.

13 Jul 2016 13:42:36
My worry is the more I look at Pogba, the more I think he will be a disaster at our club and he is not worth half the £100m quoted for him. I would rather see Matuidi and Kante/ Sissoko for half the price than have Pogba here.
He left the club and I don't think his heart is at United, so to spend £100m to bring him here is madness.

13 Jul 2016 13:52:42
Angelred what is difference between spending club revenue or a splashing the cash from a club owners chequebook when your ultimately trying to buy the same crown?

13 Jul 2016 14:11:24
Schmid I have said time and time again that Pogba is a good player but for me he is a flight risk and luxury that drifts in and out of games.

If you want someone who makes a difference every single game and does the donkey work for your Zlatans, Miki's, Martials, Rooneys etc to shine then like you said Kante is the man for that.

Would I knock Pogba back? Of course not. Would
I be wary of signing him? A little yes.

13 Jul 2016 14:12:32
Maze
Then what's the difference between buying the crown or winning it through the academy or whatever, when its the same crown?

13 Jul 2016 14:21:54
You don't see the difference between a billionaire coming in and buying the prize and a team that has a long standing history, built the club up, creates their own revenue, spends their own money and wins the prize? Does that really have to be explained to you JMB?

13 Jul 2016 14:22:25
Imighbesomeone If you can't see the difference between earning a crown and purchasing a crown then there is little point in this discussion.

13 Jul 2016 14:31:16
Maze . I really don't get what point you are making.
Living in the past is going to be confusing because we aren't there anymore.
We receive more money from tv, from sponsors, the league etc and the cost of players go up.
Said player ( who might not sign and we don't actually know the fugue either ) is probably going to be worth what we pay because the calculations have been thought over a lot more than the workings of what your mind is offerring.
Not being condescending.
We are exactly like every other club now yes, we are buying players to help us win things, don't see the problem as the money is there to spend.
Pogba will make a lot of money in shirt sales, his re sell value will still be high. He is a outstanding footballer . Debating wether he's worth 50,60,70,80 million is a waste of time.
You'd prefer Kante? Pretty sure a £50 million price tag will be slapped around him, a player who's had one decent season.

13 Jul 2016 14:39:39
Maze who are these young English players we can scout, narture and incorporate into the starting XI before the season starts? c'mon mate we are in the winning business and we need to start winning now. Even the magical class of 92 didn't start getting worked on in the summer of 91. I have to echo LVG it's a process it's not easy and it takes time.

13 Jul 2016 14:49:58
I do see the difference jmb. That question was stretching your logic about where the money comes from. If YOU can't see how those two are different, then there is indeed little point in this discussion.

13 Jul 2016 15:16:20
You need both to be successful MAZE, you need a good youth system and the ability to buy the best to be the best consistently.

14 Jul 2016 02:07:52
Although I'm dubious about spending such a fee on Pogba, I'm glad as a club it's a viable option due to the revenue we generate as opposed to money being pumped in by a Russian oligarch or someone of a similar ilk. We've earned our right to be able to afford such players and I'm proud of that. Imagine if you worked hard, saved up and bought yourself a house or car, it's much more appreciable than being handed the same thing at the drop of a hat. Say what you will, but Man United's sustained presence in the upper echelons of performance and fanbase have generated this income and that gives us passion and heart behind the investments that we make. It separates us from the 'nouveau riche' clubs who have merely bought their success but not the pride or soul that comes with it. Now I don't want us being mugged off or paying extortionate fees because we can, and I suspect that this is what is happening with Pogba. However, I am more than happy for us to flex our financial muscles and remind everyone that we have earned our place at the top and have laid the foundations to remain there even if performances have dropped.
