Hey all, just wanted to see what people opinions are for captain next year? Personally would rather not have Rooney keep it, we need someone vocal and some leadership quality

I see no problem in Rooney keeping it. If he can't reproduce his best form this season then I expect Mourinho will push to move him on next summer. We currently don't have any standout leaders to take it from him. So why upset the apple cart?
Let him keep it for another season, then if he doesn't live up to Mourinho's standards then he'll be off, and hopefully someone else will have stepped up over the next season to take that mantle.

I would prefer If the captaincy was given to a defender or midfielder and let Rooney concentrate on his own game .

Agree with shappy its just going to create an uneccesary distraction if we remove him from the captaincy.
Mourinho said he will continue to play as a forward (where he's played the majority of his career) and it made headlines everywhere lol.

This may come as a surprise to all but I'm pretty sure Rooney will keep it.
It only becomes an issue if Rooney is not in the team.
Last season Carrick and smalling were the vice captains I personally would give that role to ddg he will play when fit has the respect of everybody and is a world class performer.
That is said because there is no stand out candidate.

Really jred? The captain's role in any team should our cannot be understated.
Where would certain teams have been without the influence of Keane Robson Terry Adams even moore etc
I'm sure every pro player and manner will tell you that the captain plays a huge roll. Having the wrong one costs you dearly having the weight one helps reap huge benefits.

Terry adams etc would all of done the same job with out the arm band.
Thats the way it is, you don't need the arm band to be the voice or respected .
Infact its normally the other way round, you get the arm band because your the voice and respected.
Its an honour to be captain but fans make far to much of it.

Rooney has gone from being one of our biggest assets to something of a liability. I hate to say it (as I was all for keeping him at the time) ; but we should have moved him on when SAF left. I don't think he's good enough to play up top nor is he a midfielder - leaving us with a player that we have to shoe-horn in because of his wages and image.
He still offers something, for sure - but for the amount he is costing us I would much rather see us bring in somebody that fits into one of the holes rather than keeping a player that needs to be crammed into one (that wasn't a weight joke, ftr) .

I love that jred and ken are on the same side of the arguement-so they decided to argue about whether its important or not.
Rooney will be captain unless China make an offer we and he can't refuse.
Not a fan of GK captains and Dave whilst a great keeper isn't very vocal.
Lack of other options. Not too many great captains around any more. They don't make them like they used to: Keane Robson Adams viera Pearce maldini etc.
