Irrespective of the Pogba debate, let's not forget about Morgan Scheiderlin. Despite and indifferent first season, he is an excellent player who I expect to flourish under Moirinho. I know these days players aren't afforded the luxury of a settling in period, but in Schneiderlin we already have a very capable box to box midfielder on our hands.

Agree12 Disagree1

Scneiderlin is a player that does the ugly things well that doesn't get noticed. When he played, we very rarely lost. But then the latter part of the season for whatever reason he was just dropped. I think Jose will like him, he's solid and can easily up his game. We're definitely after a top drawer central midfielder, so it doesn't leave much room for the rest of them. Fellaini and Herrera making way?

The more I think about our team next year if we sign Tyre Iron and Pogba I just don't see where Rooney gets a game. Schweini and Schneiderlin should be like new signings, Herrera should do better as well (although he could be off) . With Carrick as cover, I think the likes of Mata, Fellaini and Rooney will be shown the exit - if possible.

I don't want to go into the Rooney debate again, but with Ibra signing, Rashford and Martial - there isn't a position for him up top and midfield he should be 5/ 6th choice. He is awful when coming on off the bench or if he hasn't played every game as he takes ages to build up sharpness, especially as he is getting older. Whatever your view on Rooney, it has to be admitted that he shouldn't be first choice in any position with the players we have supposedly coming in.

I bet nobody will have him in their dream team!

{Ed004's Note - I would agree with you Beast and hopefully this doesn't turn into another boring and repetitive Rooney conversation but as things stand if Pogba comes in our best midfield would surely be Schneiderlin (holding with Carrick as cover), Herrera (or Schweinsteiger depending on what players shows up this season) and Pogba. Our best football under Lvg came when we played 433 with two box to box midfielders. It was also when Herrera played his best football (on right side of the 3 as well - Pogba is better off playing on the left side of a midfield 3) btw who is tyre iron?}

Spot on Swollox.

Pogba ain't coming and we are being used to get him his move to madrid in my opinion. He is perfect for them.

Beast
So some players should get better and others wont?
How many times do the same people want to come on and post the same stuff .
How can this post not be aimed at starting a rooney debate .

The season kicks of soon so let's just wait and see if your right or wrong and save all the pointless post that just say the same thing day after day dragging the site down.

I'm not Rooneys biggest fan but in the games he doesn't play in, we do miss him. Or did miss him. I don't think Jose will have him as a midfielder but that's not saying he can't be a part of the team higher up the pitch.

The one thing with Chelsea under Mourinho, especially in his second term was how little he rotated his first 11. The year they won the league they faded in the last few months. They had the league won by Christmas and saw it out but they definitely weren't the same team that started the season on fire.

Was that because he wasn't happy with the squad depth there? Our squad is getting fairly big and even with departures I agree with Beast, when our squad is fully fit I don't see him in the starting 11. LvG and Roy pandered to him and let him play in the midfield. I can't see Jose being as generous.

Ed
Micky Tyre Iron, our new player. Easier to remember :-)

03 Jul 2016 17:04:00
Tyre iron = Mkhitaryan I believe, think miki would be a better nickname myself.

{Ed004's Note - I agree with Miki}

X
You could be right there it wouldn't be the first time.

03 Jul 2016 17:28:15
I would take Rooney every time over Herrera. Herrera has done nothing for me, but talks well and is likeable.

03 Jul 2016 17:29:09
I think Rooney will play as a number 10 behind Ibrahimovic, Martial will be on the left and Mkhitryan on the right.

I don't see him playing in the midfield and i think he will rotate with mkhitryan during games.

03 Jul 2016 17:34:15
x files u could be right, but as ed pointed out few days back, we are willing to pay what madrid aren't, i don't think juventus will agree to anything less, which might leave us as the only ones in the race.

Jred - I haven't said the same thing, I'm talking about how the potential "new players" and "recent signings" will effect things. This is new territory as they have only been seriously talked about in recent days.

Say what you want about Rooney, but undoubtedly the caliber of midfield we are looking likely to have means he doesn't stand a chance of regular football (if based on quality) . Then with Ibra coming in, it pushes him further down that pecking order in his natural position, which he doesn't have the pace or touch for anymore imo.

Jose doesn't rotate much as mentioned above. He also is very good at picking experts for positions as opposed to shifting players all over the shop just to give them a game, (team first/ reputation second) . I also think Mata and Fellaini will struggle, but as Rooney is our current captain and has been moved around for the past 3 years just to get him games, many times over players that have played in their positions all their career. I think the new signings and the other midfielders who went missing last season will turn up, we should all hope they do.

I want the best possible players starting for the team, not the biggest names.

BTW - Schneiderlin had a bad year, Rooney has had an average/ below average 3 or 4 years so the chances of him improving now are slimmer than Schneiderlin for example. Nevertheless I hope that Rooney does improve, I have nothing against him, it is just when special treatment is afforded for media reasons I take umbrage. With all things being equal, Rooney should be worried about his game time next season.

03 Jul 2016 17:52:34
Ed004 scheniderlin isn't a holding midfielder mate, see the game vs West Ham, he was allover the place.

{Ed004's Note - I agree he was poor that day. But I think a pre season under Mourinho and a few games there and he will be improve considerably. He has played that position well for France in the past}

03 Jul 2016 18:15:41
Thats the mark of a good manager-taking a squad and improving it by a significant amount.

We can see Herrera / Schniederlin / are very good players - a good manager will make them 2 of the best players in the league.

Darmian, Januzaj, Memphis, Smalling, Martial, Rashford, can all improve -some a lot more than others . now, if he can do that I think we will have a good season no matter who else comes in.

{Ed004's Note - Agreed there are only a few players I can't see Mourinho being able to improve (*coughRojocough*)}

Beast
Its the same point from a different angle.
Bastian hasn't been fit for 3 year even pep said the same .
Like i said why go over and over it we will know in 5 week what the team is going to look like.

03 Jul 2016 19:29:27
I agree it's a different route to the same obvious destination.

That said I agree we should wait and see what materialises. But there is no getting around the issue that Utd and England have both overwhelmingly under delivered over recent years, the "Rooney years". Not the only reason of course, so here's hoping Mourinho gets the best out of him. I think Rooney has suffered from very poor management more than anyone else in recent years, he needs the carrot and stick approach imo. Those few months before his new contract he was fantastic, let's hope increased competition and no obvious guarantees will bring out the best in him.

Garr
Thats a great point . i'm a fan of herrera but he has been poor, its not worked out for him .
But people go on and on about him it can't be down to what he does on the pitch .
Im sure where he fits in jose team and imo will be a squad player if he doesn't leave.

03 Jul 2016 20:06:58
Beast
There are more players in both the england and united squad than rooney .
Also i'm not sure why rooney always has to be the best player on the park.
He is coming up to 31 and he looked a better player in midfield than mata herrera bastian and schiders .
Players who all cost a lot and with the exception of the bastion should be in there prime . let people like yourself never mention them its just rooney rooney rooney.

As an england fan rooney scored 12 goals in 15 games . Was awful against iceland like many others but i was far more disapointed with our next stars ali wilshere and a player you have gone and on about kane .
80 mil for kane 50 for sterling and all we hear is rooney rooney rooney .

Kane was awful and englands main issue .

As for england and united being poor the last few years there are a million of reason why and rooney (one of the better players ) is way down the list but from the people its rooney rooney rooney .

Beast you can dress it up which ever way u want but some people won't be happy until he is gone . I think so they can say look i was right.

04 Jul 2016 15:01:13
jred, I totally agree with you. For people, the world starts and ends at Rooney.
