Wayne Rooney shouldn't have picked Kane over sturridge, vardy or rashford. Rooney should have defended that throw in better. Wayne Rooney did not close down the Iceland player faster before the second goal, Wayne Rooney certainly shouldn't have let that shot squirm under his left arm what a blunder by Wayne Rooney. Rooney out right now it's all his fault.

Now don't be harsh. It wasn't all Rooney's fault, some of it goes down to BREXIT as well, or so I have heard. Unless of course, BREXIT could also be Rooney's doing.

Bet he voted leave!

every time people say rooney is poor, rooney defense brigade comes on and tells us one of the below, it is never rooney's fault.

He wasn't the only one who played badly, well when u lose it rarely is 1 guy's fault, but if u are the captain and u perform the way rooney did, of course it is your bloody fault more than anybody else's, whenever rooney plays badly and we lose, somehow someone else is more culpable than rooney always, it is never rooney's fault.

When he plays rubbish as a striker, all i hear from rooney supporters is how he isn't a no 9 anymore, then when he is similarly poor at no 10, lo behold he isn't a no 10 he is supposedly the next scholes we need to play him deeper. Then like yesterday where he is played in mf, it is not his fault alone

and the cycle goes on.

Personally I've always felt Rooney's best position was on the left of a front three, it allowed him the freedom to move around, float in on his right foot and worked well with his work rate. It also gave him more time on the ball and the ability to run at defenders. Unfortunately once he suffered a couple of knee injuries and that ankle ligament damage he lost his explosive pace which limited his effectiveness out wide. He has never been disciplined or clever enough to play centrally.

Not saying Rooney had a good game but he did not put in all those useless crosses from Kane. He did not loose the ball ala Sterling, he wasn't indecisive defending in the penalty area - Dyer. He was not the goalie who let in a soft goal - Hart.

I am as disappointed as the next fan but this was 1 knockout game. Spain lost, Portugal were lucky to scrape through, as were Poland. Let's not loose perspective. This England team is for the most part inexperienced and they showed that.

Before this game I would imaging every English fan was satisfied with their performances and progress. All be it a couple more goals from all those chances would have been nice. But that was seen to be their only issue.
People are over reacting.

There is clearly room for improvement and that should start with the coaching. It was like watching United out there with all the recycling without any credible intent to score. England is not Itsly, Spain or Germany. We need to play to our strengths instead of trying to imitate others.
Rashford showed more attacking intent in 5 minutes than the rest of the team did in 90 and he's a teenager.

IMHO.

Rooney was picking up the Iceland centre back for the first goaland the other centre back waltzed in to the box alowing a tap in bad marking if you ask me. The second was two centre backs and Dier admiring the great passing. Rooney wasn't at fault for the two goals but he did play very bad all round. You have a bad habit of critising players for a bad performance but Iceland didn't let England play and you can't break down a stubborn team just look at Portugal how they struggled even with Ronaldo.

I am pretty sure Messi retired because it was his bloody fault that Argentina haven't won anything. Its a team game. And blaming it on one individual, even if he is the captain, is downright wrong. I didn't watch the game to be honest but reading people's views here does show that there were several to blame before Rooney. People want Kane, what did he do the entire tournament, Sterling, how does he get near the team is beyond my understanding. Hart is David James reincarnated, always has a mistake in him. All Sturridge can do is do that stupid dance, selfish fool.

The only one to be praised is Rashford.

The English need to realize they are not a big football nation your FA is as bad as my country's only that it has a better league and more money but when it comes to foresight and organization it is hopeless that is why every tournament England go to there is no concrete plan they'll just pin the nations hopes on individual players hype them above their ability expect them to deliver a miracle and when it goes tits up the English media and fans will organize a Lynch mob for the same players they had previously built up. Until the FA goes the German way and builds football from the roots up English hearts will always be broken what I don't get is why they don't do it they have the money and other resources. Is it ignorance or stupidity. What is the definition of insanity again?

The whole team and management were at fault, not just one player. But it's natural that we're going to focus on the performance of our own players like Rooney and smalling. Rooney had one good game and a few bad ones this tournament, which really isn't good enough for the highest paid player at our club, personally I think he's well past it and physically can't play on a weekly basis anymore, but he can still do a job if used sparingly a bit like bastian and carrick last season, because we all know there's no chance of selling him.

28 Jun 2016 12:41:10
Spot on redandy he has his uses still we should keep him but we should not expect that much from him he's not the worst nor is he the best we should just accept the guy as he is he didn't award himself a contract the club had a choice to refuse they didn't as long as he plays for us I'll support him after all we are not Liverpool.

Rooney wasn't great but neither were the rest. England are just poor all over. Hugely over rated players from front to back.

He did step up to score the penalty though that does count for something.
