So Rooney wants a new, longer contract. I say give it to him. Cancel his current one and give him a 5 year contract on £100k per week, without the captaincy. Seems fair if he wants to stay longer, not on his current terms though. He can then be rotated for the good of the squad, and gets what he wants, to stay longer. Everyone's a winner.

I am assuming this is tongue in cheek, why would he accept a 200k a week pay cut for 2 years? Madness.
Also, his contract doesn't say he is the captain, I expect Jose will keep him as captain as well, I don't think he has done a bad job as captain at all.

And make who captain, Smalling? I agreed with what you said, but there is no better captain than Wazza for United or England. But too prolong his career, Wazza will have to be rotated a bit more!

Hes captain through a lack of alternatives in my opinion. Who else can really clain they deserve the captaincy?
Carrick maybe but he's not a guaranteed starter and maybe smalling but his voice puts me off lol.

I think Wayne has been a good captain. I think he is unfairly criticized by a lot of people here. I will miss him when he's gone.

No one dare comment, if they agree, for fear of the Rooney defence league being deployed. He wasn't worth the money he is paid, when he signed the contract, and even less so now. Mourinho should bring in a player with the calibre and qualities to be his captain, with a fresh start, especially as Rooney has done next to nothing to deserve it. He's looked half decent again a poor Russia and a Wales team of mainly lower league and bit part players. If we want to really move forward, we need better, and he needs to be used in rotation, and not be captain with a guaranteed start. I'd keep him if used right and for the right money.

Jred, I have zero interest on what anyone thinks of me, and don't care who disagrees or agrees. I'm sure I get more disagrees than agrees, as I will say it as I see it, and won't give a watered down opinion, in case the touchy folk on here come out in force, and beat you down with the usual crap.
Balls to it, let's give Rooney a 5 year, £250k per week contract. Let's keep him as captain, as there is 'no one else' to do it. Let's play him no matter how he performs, and every time he has an OK game against a poor side, let's come out and shout from the roof tops. That's the way to move the club and team forward.

5 goals off all time top united scorer, played for the club for 11 years and does not deserve a shred of respect yet people will say Ronaldo is a club legend it mystifies me I honestly don't get it on of a squad of 25 there are are like 15 players who have more to answer for than Rooney.
