A lot of people on here have been criticising Pogba lately and calling him overrated. I hope you're watching tonight. He's done more in the opening 15 minutes than most of our current midfielders do in 90.

He has done ok . Kante been good.

10 Jun 2016 20:40:25
Dont think any people have called him overrated but simply stated that they may not want the club to shell out 100-120 mil for him and chase him all summer if he doesn't even want to come back to old trafford anyways.

Seems fair enough to me.

Evra is still a classy player down the left.

10 Jun 2016 20:53:27
Pogba is good, but to be honest I am looking and thinking that for the money Kante, Matuidi or Payet may be more what we are in need of.
That said, Pogba could turn out to be the all round midfielder.

{Ed004's Note - Kante has probably been the best player on the pitch. Fantastic performance so far}

EVra is getting caught out and ending up fouling the opposition.

10 Jun 2016 21:27:41
Theyalwaysscore: Evra has been suspect all night, I wouldn't want him anywhere near our team.

10 Jun 2016 21:38:16
Evra did look better first half getting caught out second half I agree. But that man kante what a player he's having a blinder. Here comes Martial.

How do you think pogba played.

10 Jun 2016 21:43:26
Last minute goal for Romania would certainly throw a spanner in this tournament :)

10 Jun 2016 22:06:30
Jred - I thought he was fantastic in an attacking sense. Everything good that France did in the first half went through him. He played some fantastic forward balls.

He had less of an influence on the second half. Still a solid 8 out of 10 performance overall though.

I said Pogba is over rated and I stand over it. Not saying he's a bad player, just over hyped at Juve and for France he's had a strong midfield around him that does a lot of the dirty work for him. Not worth over £50m for me.

If we only sign 1 CM this summer I'd sign Verratti, Javi Martinez, Koke, Kante, Vidal or Thiago before i even considered Pogba.

I suppose the folks at City, United, Barcelona, Real, Bayern, Juve, PSG, etc are clueless then? The ridiculous sums they spend scouting players have all been wasted and the managers asking the decision makers to sign Pogba should all be sacked because their ability to evaluate players is sub-par when compared to some randomers on an obscure message board. Pep and Jose are both fools. Fans of every other club that would love to see Pogba playing for their team are all idiots too.

If he'd stayed at united people would be singing his praises but it seems as though as we let him slip through our fingers he is suddenly overrated. He's a top quality player with many years ahead of him - and if ADM was worth £65m, Bailly is worth £32m, Depay was worth £28m (I could go on for some time here) - then I can't see why Pogba being worth £60m-£80m in todays market is questionable to anybody.

11 Jun 2016 05:45:01
OK do I wish he had stayed at united? Yes.

Do I think he should have played the game that Rafael played CM? Definitely.

Do I think he's a better player than any of our current CM's based on last season? Yes

Do I think he's worth 60-80m when Pjanic, Kante and Mahrez are all reportedly available around the 25m mark? No

If we buy 1 CM, given that we need other signings elsewhere, do I think Pogba is the type of player we need? No

If we sign Pogba I think it means Schneiderlin has to play the DM role. The Eds have said many times Morgan is not a DM.

To me it would make more sense to buy Kante which would allow Herrera and Schneiderlin to push higher up the pitch and play in their natural positions where they are more effective.

Without doubt Pogba has immense ability but he gives the ball away a lot and goes missing in matches. Yes he may play the match winning pass but only if someone else does the dirty work to keep the team in the game. I'm yet to see him stamp his authority on a match or consistently control the tempo of a game.

He is young and has time to be a top 5 player in the world but he's not there yet and as such shouldn't command a Ronaldo or Bale type fee.

Red

Quoting flops who have gone for too much money like adm and depay does not make him a good buy at 70 or 80 mill mate. What did Kante go for or Mahrez and do you think he is worth 5 times what they are?

To make a case for his valuations using deals that everyone knows were very bad actually makes the case for not doing it again :)

MulamNO - Kante is not a DM either so I'm not sure how signing him over Pogba would make a difference to where Morgan played (the same Morgan who is behind both Pogma and Kante in the pecking order for France, btw) .

Whilst positionally they are not too dissimilar; Pogba and Kante excel in different areas. Kante is a beast when it comes to winning the ball back and intercepting passes whilst Pogba is fantastic on the ball and can pick out a killer pass with ease (both are good at what the other excels at too, mind) .

In an ideal world we would look to sign the pair of them as I think that they compliment each other perfectly; but as one of our biggest problems last season was creating chances - I see Pogba as being exactly the kind of player we need if we were to only sign one midfielder. I'd be equally happy with Kante.

I wasn't aware that Bailly was considered a flop? The point that I was making was that people seemed happy with all three signings at the time they were made and nobody really questioned the price tag (which has no baring on us fans anyway) . If signing an unproven 22 year old defender that has made just 40 first team appearances and was more or less unheard of for £32m is good value - I really don't see how signing a player that is less than one year older, has made more than three times as many top flight appearances, has been an integral part of a side that has won their domestic league comfortably 4 years on the bounce (As well as reaching a Champions League final) and is widely regarded as the best young player in the world for £60m is not good value.

Of course you can pick out all of the bargains that smaller clubs manage to pick out (although for every success story there are two failures) - but big clubs buy big players. We tried signing lesser known players in the past and with the exception of Ronaldo, it backfired massively.

The amount we would spend on Pogba in fees and wages would be nothing when compared with what we've wasted on flops over the last 5 years or so (Zaha, Rojo, Depay, Powell, Jones, Valdes, Fellaini, Kagawa, Buttner, Bebe, etc) .
