If bids are seriously being listened to for Mahrez we must surely get involved!

It saddens me that after there great success this season it now looks like the three crown jewels of Leicester city's title winning team will be snatched away from them.
Vardy looks set to have a fall from grace at Arsenal, a team set up to play a way he can't.
Kanye could be on his way to PSG, He is a great player but I do wonder who he is going to displace at PSG or whether like Cabaye he struggles to assert himself into the first team.
Now Mahrez looks like he might be off too. And if he goes to Arsenal I wonder how he will adapt to a team that is the exact opposite to the team he has had all his success in.

Surely sticking at Leicester the club that made them household names for one more season isn't too much to ask is it?

{Ed004's Note - It is a real shame however it was inevitable. Each move is clearly a step up for each of the players and will most likely improve their financial situations as well. On another note does anyone else think we should be looking at Mahrez as well}

06 Jun 2016 09:47:45
If Mahrez is available then I'd say we should look at him as he plays from the right. That would give us Rashford or Mahrez for the right wing and Martial or Depay for the left.

However, he doesn't strike me as a Mourinho type of player. Yes he works hard for Leicester and tracks back, but he's a bit of a maverick. I personally love that in a player and think that all squads need a player or 2 who can do something which gets fans off their seats but not sure if Mourinho wants that kind of player.

I'm a huge Mahrez fan but realistically I can't see us looking at him.

I think vardy will do well at arsenal, they move the ball forward quick and like to play on the counter .
Plus he gives them and option they haven't got at the moment .
Him and sanchez will hurt teams.

06 Jun 2016 09:57:16
Dont want him we've got lingard.

06 Jun 2016 10:04:39
Why don't you think Vardy cannot play the Arsenal way Shappy? I think he would do well there and improve Arsenal. He is a goal scorer, the like of which Arsenal have missed since Ian Wright, but also offers plenty in terms of build up play and teamwork.

06 Jun 2016 09:45:53
It shouldn't be inevitable though Ed004. I mean they will all get a bumper new contract at Leicester I would imagine, plus they will get the chance to play UCL football with them next season. If next season things didn't go so well then they could always leave Leicester next summer.

The only reason to leave now is if you don't think you can personally perform as well next season as you did this, therefore maybe those top clubs will no longer br interested. If you have confidence in yourself and your ability then there is no reason to doubt those clubs would still be interested in you in 12 months time.

{Ed004's Note - You can all the confidence in the world in yourself but still not trust your team mates to maintain their level. What's to say Huth starts having a few howlers or Kante and drinkwater start picking up a few injuries etc. In fact what are the odds leceister go through another season with relatively no injuries again}

Hi all,
Thanks to the Eds as always for the site.
I'm not sure I agree with you Shappy. I think after watching Vardy play for England in a wide left/ second forward position he has impressed and I think Wenger sees him as an alternative to Sanchez or perhaps even a replacement as he could move on this year. Vardy is a proven goal scorer, not a world class player in any stretch of the imagination but a hard working, fast, direct goal threat and if Arsenal can keep hold of Ozil and keep Wilshere fit I can see Vardy bagging loads of goals next season for Arsenal. Sanchez has proven this season again that he doesn't have the stamina to play 30 games+ a season particularly with his domestic football being in the Prem. Mahrez is a talent and IMO walks into any starting line up of any side in the Premier League. If a range of clubs start bidding for him then we have to consider the same.

06 Jun 2016 10:26:11
Betty, he isn't good on the ball, his passing choices are poor and his lack of vision and understanding. He isn't strong and he isn't good at linking with team mates in the attacking third.

He is great at turn and run football played on the counter, and if given a chance is a very good finisher. He needs loads of space to run into and out pace his marker.
But Arsenal play possession and tend to play relatively high up the pitch, this will limit the space Vardy will have to run into and take away from his his best asset which is his pace.

Leicester played with 2 up top, because Vardy hasn't got the all round game to play the lone striker, yet Arsenal never play with two up front, so unless Wenger is going to totally change his system for Vardy then he will struggle in my opinion.

06 Jun 2016 10:56:16
I also think vardy will do well at arsenal he makes great runs off the ball and that's what ozil and Sanchez will love.
Mahrez is a great player but I'd we sign bailly then can we afford to have another African in and around a1st team starting 11. Due to nation's cup.
I think he will be a great signing wherever he goes. I would like him to come here but i don't think it will happen.
Kante looks psg bound. But I've not seen us linked. I would sign him in a heartbeat I'm surprisd as he seems like a Jose type player.
But I think Jose knows who he wants / can get and there will be a surprise our 2 before the end of August perhaps with the spine off the team being addressed.

06 Jun 2016 11:05:14
I think you are doing Vardy a huge disservice Shappy. Opinions vary, and different people see different things in players, but I think your assessment of Vardy's attributes are very flawed. Not strong, poor passer, can't link up play, poor understanding etc?

You must have been watching Reg Vardy last season.

06 Jun 2016 11:30:27
Betty I know Stats aren't always a great way of understanding how a player is impacting a game. But last season Vardy attempted on average 17 passes a game, with a success rate of 64% meaning he only completed 11 passes a game. Or just over 1 successful pass every 10 minutes.

Sound like an Arsenal player to you?

I like him and think he has been awesome for Leicester this season. But his style of play isn't suited to Arsenal imo, there is a reason Walcott hardly gets a game for Arsenal. Quick decent finisher but totally unable to contribute to build up play other than running off the ball.

I think if Walcott played for Leicester this season he would have had a similar number of goals as Vardy. To be honest I think Walcott is the slightly better player, although not a lot in it to be fair.

I think a move to Arsenal could seriously back fire on Vardy.

{Ed001's Note - oh god, ridiculous stats. You are adding no context again and so coming out with crap. How often was he dropping deep to make passes in easy areas? How often was he in space to play his passes? Most of his time on the ball was coming when he was in difficult areas while being surrounded by defenders with limited options. Those stats mean bugger all other than you have not seen enough of him to judge him. This is a pointless post by you, based on crap usage of non-applicable stats because the context is completely missing. As usual stats being perverted to an opinion.}

06 Jun 2016 13:33:57
Well said Ed001 - stats are usually pointless and far too many are written down.

06 Jun 2016 13:54:29
Rj. Mourinho had a few mavericks in his teams and all did very well under him. Hazard voted player of the year last year. Real and inter and Porto had several maverick players under mourinho.
Snappy, I think Vardy going to arsenal makes them one of the favourites for the league. He scores goals and arsenal create chances.

06 Jun 2016 13:47:25
Ooh ed001, wrong side of the bed this morning?

{Ed001's Note - no mate, just hate this misuse of stats. They are so useful when used properly, but this is a complete misuse.}

06 Jun 2016 16:40:52
Statistically, ed001 is usually right.

06 Jun 2016 16:59:24
I get you ed001. But poor old shappy, usually the most consistent and possibly poster of us all got it lol.

On the topic, I think vardy will be a good fit at arsenal. Whatever about his passing stats etc, he will be there for one thing only, to score a lot of goals. With the amount of possession and chances arsenal seem to muster up throughout a game, vardy, being a very good finisher will love it there. I think you'll see him do exactly what he did at Leicester, sit on the shoulder of the CB and feed off any decent chances. Arsenal do not have that type of striker.

{Ed001's Note - I like Shaps, but I hate stats used like that. No one ever uses context, so what they present are meaningless numbers that they then twist to suit their argument.}

06 Jun 2016 17:04:45
Shappy the irony is, Arsenal type players haven't won nadda for time. For a pass to death to score team Vardy not being Arsenal type is probably exactly what they need.

06 Jun 2016 18:13:12
To be fair I think even if you take statistics out of it there are so many variables that no player is guaranteed to be successful after being transferred. Different tactics, players you might not get on with, professionally or personally, different training regime, different management style, not to mention injuries and an upset missus moving away from her friends and family. So many things can go wrong.

If I was a Leicester player I'd stay put unless the team I supported came in for me. if it ain't broke don't fix it.

06 Jun 2016 18:32:14
Statto, Statto, Statto, Statto. What were you doing in the 90's ed001?

{Ed001's Note - ah now that would be telling, but Statto had to get his stats from somewhere, that is all I am saying.....}

06 Jun 2016 19:31:52
Ha ha I knew you were the fountain of knowledge, and yet you are a Liverpool supporter. Just goes to show, we all have our flaws :-)
