Nice piece on sky sports regarding Jose's handling of youth in his managerial career so far. It kind of debunks the whole notion that mourinho doesn't invest in youth.

20 debuts to youngsters in his 3 years at Madrid. That's pretty impressive considering Reals history of buying.

I was listening to talk sport this morning, God help me, never again, and they just kept spewing the same things over and over regarding joses record with youth, quoting what newspapers such as the sun/ star/ mirror were writing. Is this what all mainstream media has become.

Yeah, and 12 Chelsea debutes in 6 years.

I read a stat that Rashford has played more minutes this season than all of the academy debuties combined during Jose's Real Madrid tenure.

So just looking at the number of players debutes that have been given too can be very misleading. How many of them got an actual run in the team, how many got a chance due to injuries?

The fact is Jose doesn't give a huge amount of trust to young players, especially ones who have come through the clubs own academy.

Thats not to say he will disregard the likes of CBJ, TFM, Rashford and Lingard. Just don't be suprised if they don't get much of a kick. Hopefully we can tie them all down to long term contracts and if they aren't going to play loan them out to develop, then in a few years time once Jose is gone hopefully they won't have been ruined and we can make good use of them.

He's not even appointed yet as manager/ coach and you're already fed up with it :-P
Being a Chelsea fan, I can say you'll get used to it. People don't like Mourinho, it's the way it is. It's better to ignore the media, especially when concerning Mourinho.

If the kids are good enough they
Will play.
If there not they won't ( unless we get a load of injuires ) .

How many of our young players would get in the jose madrid team?

24 May 2016 17:17:53
Exactly jred. Given the squad quality at Madrid and the whole galactico ethos young players aren't going to get minutes.

Are people really expecting Jose to turn up and bin players like rashford who have shown they have what it takes to perform at this level.

Or is he going to think great some squad players with talent and work on finishing the cake off rather than going back to the mixing bowl.

24 May 2016 17:21:17
The fact is shappy he gave them a run. How many of them were good enough at the time to replace what was already there?

He has given plenty of youngsters their debuts etc. It's up to them to seize it just like our lot have.

24 May 2016 18:15:01
Why do people get so hung up on youth? Yes we have a fantastic record when it comes to youth but would we honestly sacrifice success for young players getting a run out? I think not, it's hard to get the balance right and tbh fergie only really developed the class of 92. Not many other youngsters have gone on to achieve that level of success mainly due to the pressure on young players now.

I hope Rashford has been used as a stop gap. The lad was good for us to use this season but hardly prolific. Seriously Rashford or Ibrahimovic, Rashford or Benzema, Rashford or Costa. Not that we're going to buy all those players but I know who I'd rather have up front. What are we aiming for? More mediocrity or would we prefer to be the best in the world?

No disrespect meant to Rashford I think he has a great future in the sport but let's not rush him into being the main focal point of our attack. Let the lad develop learning his trade from the best teachers we can attract to our club.

24 May 2016 19:29:09
He had a few failings at Chelsea with Lukaku and De Bruyne but from what i gather they had issues with application which never works with Jose.
I don't recal too many chealsea youth players going on to do great things (I may be wrong) . So whilst they may have been good at youth level and they win trophys maybe they were not top prem quality.
Hopefully the like of Martial/ Rashford/ TFM/ CBJ have shown they can do it so will get a fair run in the team.
The advantage for them is that LVG has left a small squad . even if Jose buys 5 players there is still scope for them to be in the mix.

Topbomin, firstly, are you MAZE?

11 appearances 5 goals in the league. 89% shots on target and God knows his goals to chances ratio but I believe it is extremely high.

Stop gap and mediocre are words you have just used to describe Rashford. Have you watched any of his performances at all.

He seems to have it all and has been on a fantastic run. I'm not against signing Ibra but Marcus Rashford, a stop gap he is not!

Angelred, But already there are rumours about Mourinho wanting Benzema, Ibrahimovic, Higuian and Aubameyang. If one or more of them come how much time will Rashford or Martial get as a striker?
Players develop by playing, would Ronaldo or Rooney have progressed more by playing less when they were 18/ 19 years old?
There is an arguement to be made that Rooney never quite fullfilled his potential possibly because he was constantly played in several positions and not allowed to make one position his own. Could that happen to Martial? Is he a winger or a striker?
Raul, Owen, Brazilian Ronaldo and many others were leading the line for their teams at 18/ 19 years old.

TopBomin, I think Rashford has been a revelation and has been very good infront of goal. Consider how many goals he has got compared to how many shots he is getting a game. Give him 4-5 chances a game like players such as Kane or Aguero are getting and I bet he scores at least once a game mayybe more.
I think both Rashford and Martial are more than good enough to be first choice. If a top striker who was flexible enough to interchange and play in any of the front three positions became available such as Greizmann or Aubameyang then I would probably go for them. But if not then I would look for a dynamic goalscoring wide player to help create more goalscoring chances for the two top young strikers we have. Qi.

No Angelred I am not maze and if you the post you will see that I agree that Rashford is a talent but for the future.

I have to ask would Rashford push Aguero out of the city team or Kane out of Spurs.

Did we win the champions league with a front 3 of Tevez, Rooney and Ronaldo. Would Rashford get into that team?

If we want to be the best then we need to aim a little higher than Rashford. But before you get excited I will say again that the lad has a bright future ahead of him but let's not place all our eggs in one basket but allow him to continue his education by learning from the best available to us because world class he is not (yet) and burning him out by putting the weight of scoring 20+ goals a season for one of the biggest clubs in the world on his shoulders would be insanity.

24 May 2016 21:30:02
We have been linked with strikers a long time before jose.

Shaps
Did u not want zlatan the other week pal.

25 May 2016 07:45:42
I wouldn't mind zlatan due to the fact the guy is 1st class and also 34. He would bring an aura and a tremendous amount of experience that will only benefit Rashford.

TopBomin I get what you are saying about him being a massive prospect and the burden of 20+ goals shouldn't be placed on him yet. My issue was the stop gap comment. The way he has played, he genuinely could be our no1 striker. Everything I have seen so far suggests that. I think having someone like Ibra there with him would help and also due to ibras age would allow him to get more than enough playing time.

If they're good enough, they're good enough. Rashford is more than capable of leading the line right now.
