I don't want zlatan because i think you build a team by buying players with there best years ahead of them and a hunger to succeed.
Most players take time to adapt to the epl ibra won't have that .
United imo are in a transition and are building for the future, again that's not ibra .

Its not about just buying big name stars who are looking for a last payday .
Its not just ibra i really didn't want bastian.

Jred,

If Rashford is going to be as good as we believe he is going to be, then we don't need a 25 year old to stand in his way. The benefit of having Ibra at this time is that he is a born winner - we have lost a lot of those in recent times. He will be here for a couple of years, and then he will be gone for Rashford to be the undisputed central striker at the club.

Rashford has huge potential, but we shouldn't be reliant on him and there is always the concern of burnout - this will help Rashford, and Martial actually, in the long run.

Don't you think?

Fresh
No to be honest .
I don't think ibra is suited to the epl or what we need in this moment in time .
He is a big name and has scored a lot of goals in france, over the last 4 year but if you watch him he walks through games and is there to add the final piece to what is a very good psg team 2 or 3 levels above anything in the league .
Imo the epl is a differnt story and notmany 35 year olds will handle it .
It not like france or italy .

Why buy a 35 year old player for 2 years when you can get a 25 year old for the next 7 .

I have said before i would play martial as the cf i would also add a player that can play across the front 3 or a top number 10 .
But i would build a team for the future,

17 May 2016 17:34:16
I don't think a deal for ibra makes a lot of sense but you never know in football,
I think we are more likely to go for someone like muller.

17 May 2016 17:35:16
jred and Fresh you both have valid points. I think Fresh makes a genuine point about having a 25 years forward ahead of him.

I was fairly happy when we signed Schweinsteiger. I think LVGs style of play has made players look ineffective.

Would everyone be happier if we concentrated on sorting out the defence first. A great team is build on a solid defence. It would allow us to play with more freedom.

It's essential we buy some top players with experience to take us back to the top of our game. A honestly think that if LVG stays then we will struggle to recruit those top players.

17 May 2016 17:47:43
Do we not think we need experience tho thru the spine of the team really, he's got bucket loads of confidence and charisma.

17 May 2016 17:51:33
Mad Hatter,

A centre back is the priority above all else in my opinion. I don't care who out of Marquinhos, Mustafi or Stones as I think Mourinho would get the best out of them as he has consistently with centre backs of all ages.

The right side of midfield and the strikers position is the most of concern. I don't want a striker to come in that will block Rashford and Martial from developing which is exactly what would happen if we signed someone like Muller. So for me it has to be Ibra or perhaps no one. A mobile right sided player will add so much to us though - even more than a striker. Mane is the obvious and most attainable, but we are meant to be looking at Sane and Joao Mario - both of which I know very little about.

But looking at the way Mourinho players, we have a lot here already. I think Darmian and Shaw are sufficiently solid and are capable going forward. Smalling will be okay (for now at least) but needs a partner. Mustafi is probably best suited on balance. Schneiderlin is like Matic with a better range and is currently being misused and Herrera is a very good central midfielder under the right coach - I actually think he would do well under Mourinho who likes one of the central midfielders to get forward and help link the midfield and attack. Martial could be as effective as Hazard has been for him and Rooney is no worse a player than Oscar.

Fresh
Is muller a CF?
Plays left, right and the 10 imo as well as cf .
Gives u a lot of options .

17 May 2016 18:05:59
I love Zlatan, but I think that's as much about his personality as anything else. I do see the argument for an experienced forward to help our fledgling attacking line. Unlike jred, I loved it when Bastian came to the club, even though I had doubts about what Bastian we were going to get.

But personally, if we want the fast, attacking forward play that we all crave, as opposed to what we have at the minute, then I just can't see how he'll fit in.

Which is a shame.

Make no mistake it was great to see bastian in a united shirt, it was just a few years to late .

17 May 2016 18:10:00
Both good arguments. I would like ira to sign. His experience and status will help bring on the likes of rashford depay and martial.
I think his experience would be hugely beneficial. I also think he is a better more influential figure than anybody we have at the club currently. He is someone to look up to.
It is a risk no doubt about it but he is a winner and still performing well no injury issues and puts more energy into a game than messi he also appears to stroll around all the time.
I just think he is the right short term solution at the right time. if those 3 young guns plus Wilson and adnan develop according to plan it could turn out to be a very crucial and prudent investment.
My guess is he will score more goals next season than anybody shouted this. And probably more league goals than Rooney rashford and martial combined got this season.

17 May 2016 18:11:20
I am of the opinion if we signed ibra on a 1/ 2 year contract it would be a good thing, of course his age may mean he is a failure but considering his assets i think he could get away with it. i agree with the comments about him walking through games but he is there to make/ finish opportunities and he has always done that. bearing in mind our possession stats, his physique suiting the premiership and his aerial ability he seems a viable option. I however don't think we have offered a contract to him yet and comments attributed to him would seem to make a reunion with lvg unlikely. I am of the opinion the decision to remove lvg at the end of the season has been made and if i had to guess mourinho is as likely as any considering the constant speculation.

17 May 2016 18:18:11
You only have to look at Schweinsteiger to see how it can go tits up. THe French League is easy, the EPL is very very demanding. When your legs go your legs go. Let's not compare him to Cantona who came in his prime, Zlatan is heading for retirement, not a good move for me.

17 May 2016 18:59:33
I think a short term deal for Zlatan would be a lot better than another 25 year old to be honest. Remember the impact larsson had on the team and we only had him for a few months. Very few teams are going to part with their star striker unless we smash records.

17 May 2016 19:04:50
Or you could look at Larson who provided great impetus or sheringham as examples of how it can be a good thing.
Ibra has never relied on his pace and there is No evidence of a huge decline in firm in fact the opposite. He was scoring in the cl and at international level for last few seasons consistently and that is hardly a poor standard.
Add I said above is a risk but what signing isn't. No fee outlay is a positive.

17 May 2016 21:04:46
I'm in agreement with you Ken.

We do lack real leaders. I don't think it will harm us whatsoever on a short term deals. He is still quality and central defenders are always very wary when playing against him. It would give other players more freedom.

Jred

Who said signing Ibra is about rebuilding around him. If we can not secure a world class striker as you say in his mid 20s you have to sign a guy like ibra who is a proven world class striker who will score and create goals. It all about finding 70 to 80 goals in your team to be a factor in this league. Our current squad has very few goal scorers and that is the problem.

Needless to say he will bring an attitude with him that is Cantona like, don't underestimate that. CR07 is also 33/ 34 and still going. I think if he came the wig is gone and i will take that all day.
