I am pleased for De Gea. Another great season from him. The guy has bailed us out on a number of occasions and deserves all the plaudits coming his way.

A special mention to the Manager as well. I'll give him credit for his honesty. It is a quality that seems lacking in this day and age:

"I'm a coach, a manager who would rather have some authority but every day the players can read it, what do you think about my authority as well? What do you think about the way they want to follow my advice when the coach is shown like a nobody? " - The Manager

Very honest of him to come out and basically say his authority has been undermined by the media. Sounds like a man who is not going to be here for much longer.

Completely agree that this media speculation has undermined lvg especially around christmas time when he was managing on a game by game basis according to the press.

But if this speculation has had an adverse effect on the players and the dressing room then surely that would have been communicated up the ranks at old trafford to the hierarchy?

Im sure it would have been in everyones interests to make a statement backing van gaal around january time to put any speculation at the time to bed if it was hindering our season.

I respect the clubs stance that they don't need to resort to denying speculation that isn't true or fair but if it would have helped out lvgs authority it would have been wise to do so.

I have been saying for a while about the club coming out publicly backing the manager. I think it would have made his life easier IMO.

If they could see something taking shape on the training ground, that filled them with confidence, then I doubt they'd pay much attention to what the papers are saying.

Noucamp - I was always of the belief that Moyes' got the tick tack because the players had no confidence in him.

May well have been, Tuor. But from all accounts they were pretty underwhelmed by what they saw on the training ground. I think that's where players' confidence in their manager is won and lost.

It's a very high profile job paying hefty wages to the manager - he enjoys alluding to how insignificant Utd is compared to some of his previous jobs where arguably the pressure is even more intense from fans and media, so not entirely sure why he feels he deserves a free pass. At Xmas time it amazed me and half the world he kept his job, there is a reason for this Man Utd were underperforming and he had well over the 3 months he told us he needed to get us playing his philosophical way. 2 Years on and we look no more fluid/ cohesive than when he first took over.

If he hadn't followed Moyes the fans and media would be ten times worse as well, he has been a master at downplaying expectations since he took over. A lot of people have fallen for it and unfortunately it is the main reason he is in his job still and another year has been wasted.

As always with this guy he is just trying to make his job seem more difficult than it is and looks for excuses as to why we have been so underwhelming. Next week it will be something else.

He should coach huddersfield if he wants an easy life with the press. as a matter fact he is not fit to manage any of the top clubs as it is the same everywhere and not just in england, Try being Bayern, barca, real managers and have the results he has had. sacked and gone by now.
