We need to get Mourinho in this summer and people need to understand he's the best option to take the club forward.

Some on here have stated the reasons why he's wrong I'm going to state why I believe he is.

Youth? Ok well to me it's a myth that mourinho will not give youth a chance I argue he will play young players if good enough. As porto coach in the champions league final he played carlos alberto at 19 who was a goalscorer I believe. At Inter he had santon in the team at 17 and had mad mario in the squad.

Whilst Real coach he gave debuts to morata, jese and nacho as well as playing varane in many games at a young age. At chelsea zouma was getting games. Players like mc echran and many others who came through the chelsea academy have done nothing. This justifies why mourinho never played them. Mourinho asked the chelsea board for stones, griezmann and pogba to take the club to the next level. What he got was rahman, falcao, pedro and begovic.

I like the fact he knew those players could bring them on. I actually think mourinho teams play better football than people say. He outscored peps Barcelona and in his two spells at chelsea they played some great stuff the season before this scoring plenty in many games. Porto won the uefa cup and followed it up with a champions league title the season after and they could play scored and entertained.

A treble at inter ad porto too. Yes he gets his teams well organised at the back but all good teams need that to start from. Mourinho has got great tactical nouse and he has shown this when regularly getting the better of wenger and our own fergie. He knows how to build a team and what it takes to win games and silverware. The football at the minute is crap and getting no results might as well play the same way getting results.

That said Mourinho in my opinion can get us playing an attractive brand of football whilst having us organised and hard to beat. None of this pointless possession. Mourinho would have his teams playing with penetration. I think had we got jose in january we'd be in top 4 I also think under mourinho games we dominate we'd wrap up by taking our chances.

Mourinho has a big enough personality to come in and get rid of those not good enough and bring in those of the standard required. We need a winner we made a big mistake in moyes when fergie left. We need to accept a new way of playing and a new direction. Yes we don't want to abandon all our principles but some fans believe all our youth players are world beaters and it's not the case.

We believe them to be better than they are. The ones's good enough jose will keep. If we want to compete for the title again then make the decision with the head and not a heavy heart and appoint the special one because we need a special manager.

I agree with what you say. I actually think Mourinho will still target Stones and Griezmann when he joins as two major signings but we may pursue Sanches instead of Pogba. That would be three top signings and enough to get us back to competing at the top.

His comments suggest to me that signing Falcao was more about Mourinho proving that he could get Falcao playing his best football again rather than anything else.

"If I can help Falcao reach his level again, I will do it. It hurts me that people in England think that the real Falcao is the one we saw at Manchester United. "

I think if Falcao had gone to any other club and performed the way he did for us Mourinho wouldn't have gone near him.

Great post Irwin.

Mourinho plays teams to their strengths, LVG seems to play teams to his strengths (former strengths) and therein lies the problem.

When it comes to youth I think it's too easy to say "a new manager has to play youth", LVG has systematically torn up every last bit of what Utd stood for but still has supporters (I'll come onto youth before some of you start) . Mourinho will play players that are good enough, chances are that more experienced players are better than youngsters, fact of life and time moves on. We have the money to buy ready made talent now, just like the rest of the EPL will - the world is a much smaller place than it was in the 90's.

We have more competition than ever, more money floating about than ever - the last thing we can do is rely on youth when teams like West Ham, Spurs etc will simply buy better players and have an immediate advantage. Young players are more fickle now, so suffering for 2-3 years blooding youngsters only for half not to be good enough in the end (Cleverley, Welbeck, Rafael, Jones, Fabio) and the other ones having agents that smell dollar (DDG will be followed by Martial imo in a couple of years) is a massive gamble.

The youth LVG has blooded this year were out of necessity, just look at where half of them are now and where all of last years crop are. I believe Mourinho will find a good balance and will pay big money for key positions, allowing the very elite youngsters a chance when it won't hurt the team too much, which frankly is what should be happening.

Not sure who disagreed with you Beast. But it is exactly my views on Mourinho.
I can't believe we're dithering on his appointment. Typical of United in this day and age, never going the extra mile on the football pitch but doing extra marathons when it comes down to "commercial deals"

The most exciting part of watching a Mourinho team (except Real, but that was almost purely due to Ronaldo) is the amount of attacking they let the opposition do. Still, at least someone is attacking, which is more than can be said for LVG's philosophy.

There have to be options other than Mourinho or LVG. Mourinho will destroy the club. Yes he brought through a few youngsters, but not many, and I seem to recall at least a couple of those being the result of arguments with senior players rather than any desire to bring youngsters through.

Which brings me to the final problem. His Ego, which quite frankly is a well enough documented matter that nothing else reaĺy needs to be said about it.

Despite what some seem to think, winning isn't everything. If we abandon our values in pursuit of silverware, we'll be no better than City or Chelsea.

Thorne,

Do you really believe winning isn't everything?

Would you be happy to lose every game, get relegated etc?

I know that may sound extreme but winning is everything. Without winning we can't move forward, we can't get new players, we will lose sponsorship.

It is a competitive game, winning is everything, winning is essential.

03 May 2016 16:45:18
I do believe that.

I would rather be fighting for top 4 every season, than abandon the club's values and identity.

I didn't start supporting Utd because of the trophies. I fell in love with Utd because when I sat down with my grandfather at the weekend to watch some football on telly, Utd were always the most exciting team to watch. Fast attacking football, taking chances in pursuit of goals, always keeping you on the edge of your seat. Young players given their chances and trusted to bounce back even when they didn't have the best game.

We didn't even really start winning trophies until a few years later, but Utd were just exciting to watch. You always knew that at any moment, someone was going to do something special, and that it didn't matter whether it was the 3rd minute or the 93rd, every player was giving everything they had.

So yeah, I don't think winning is everything. Important, obviously, but not everything.

I know several Chelsea fans who hate everything that has happened to their club since Abramovich took over. They say it doesn't feel like their club any more, it doesn't have an identity. What's the point of winning a few trophies if you lose your identity to do it?

03 May 2016 17:07:33
Love it, Thorne. Sums up exactly why so many of us started supporting Utd.

03 May 2016 17:43:43
Me too Thorne.

Ditto.

{Ed007's Note - Post of the Day for Beast today then eh?}
