I have few read few of threads regarding signing of new striker.
People using terms like "proven player" or "20 goals per season striker". And of my personal favourite

Surely our main focus should be firstly where we lack most which are CB and CMs. Other areas needs a lot more improving.

A manager. I like how LVG introduce talents of Rashford and Timbo. Ofcourse popular counter argument is it's LVG's fault for thinking our squad and tht he didn't have a choice. Same people will say football is about result. And the result is he has introduced youth players, some have amazing potential.

But my main problem is LVG failure as manager.
Simply because he hasn't manage to bring out the best of current players. He has failed to motivate and develop the Manchester United players apart from Smalling and maybe Blind.
Infact forms of Schneiderlin, Herrera, Januzaj, Memphis and the rest has dipped a lot.
That is the minimum expectation of Manager. To manage the team.
It is remarkable how Manager who is able to bring out best of his players as a team can achieve. So forget marquee signing to patch up what is already broken. First bring out the best of the existing United players and then buying to complement and add to strengthen of the team. Not players to carry the team.
Likes Simeone, Pochettinho and Klopp (firstly dortmund), the phenomenon of the year, every leicester players, has taught us that thing.n

My favourite line is:

. each to their own.

Obviously the manager is the main issue, getting the most out of our players would massively improve things.

A couple of points though. First off I've never seen or heard of a manager who can get 100% out of all of the squad. Even Sir Alex wasn't able to get the best out of every player he managed. Its just not possible. So when we change manager yes several players will improve but not all of them, in fact one or two may even regress.

Secondly even with improvement within our squad several areas are quite obviously thin. Up front for example we lack experience, also in defence as well as leadership.

Thirdly any new manager will have his own way of playing and will want to put his own stamp on this squad.

So although I agree that getting the next manager right is the most important thing, the squad will also need a freshen up regardless of who is manager next season.

Over the past 3 years we've signed herrera fellaini schneiderlin and schweinsteiger and we still lack in central midfield.

The reason people think we should sign a striker this season is because we haven't scored nearly enough goals.
Weve scored 40 goals this season in the league and the seasons nearly finished lol.

Now obviously lvgs negative approach contributes massively to this but surely people can see the logic in signing someone who puts the ball in the back of the net when we haven't put the ball in the back of the net reguarly.

Excellent post RedS and I agree with it all. I'm sure depay schneiderlin and hererra will flourish if they are sold. And I hope we don't sell them but change the total plonker who is managing them .

Really good post and i said the same yesterday. LVG as a manager is a failure imo opinion and one can argue so many things that he has failed at and underachieved which includes getting steam to play. In simple footballing terms getting a pretty good squad scoring a lot more and defending better when it matters.

His philosophy of how the game should be played is the core of the problem and buying more players will not fix that.

I agree that lvg gets teams playing crap but for some reason that transcends me, history has shown that he is the best in developing young players. I'm not going in his defence but the facts and all his previous players do the talking. If we keep lvg i don't think we should buy a cb. just a rw and striker and replacements for mid if carrick leaves. We can in fact sell young, valencia and mata, replacements already being in the squad. In defence, williams, poole and tuanzebe all look like they can step up next season.
