What if you are given the ultimate authority in Manchester United? What will be your key decisions in this summer? Keep/ sell lvg? realistically appoint who/ why? about the youth set up?

Agree0 Disagree2

22 Apr 2016 16:49:03
Id sell lvg for a packet of pork scratchings.

Then i would approach pochetino and offer him the job. Once he's said he sees his future at tottenham with a young, exciting and talented group of players then i would get jose in and he doesn't seem up to much.

Put it in his contract that he has to play fosu mensah every game and that sorts out your youth problem.

22 Apr 2016 18:13:42
Couldn't have put it better dsg. Also he's got to play 7 of the u21's in every match and that should solve all problems.

22 Apr 2016 18:42:06
I'd just make sure that we actually come away with a few players when we spend over £10 million on agents' fees. Either that or save the £10m so we can afford a big mechanical boot capable of kicking the Dutch clown back to Hamsterdam.

22 Apr 2016 20:02:13
Sack LvG, appoint a director of Football, invest in the academy, hire a manager such as Pochettino who will play progressive football while giving youth a chance. Inject passion, and excitement back into the club.

22 Apr 2016 20:58:36
Jose number 1
Joyce number 2.

22 Apr 2016 22:41:23
If I had my way about what happens at this football club I would start by putting Woodward back into a marketing role. I'd then replace van gaal with poch. I'd make Joyce his number 2 and have giggs take over under 21s. I would then make the decision to have fosu mensah play in midfield rather than at the back.
I'd sell Fellaini and Valencia. I'd sign hummels, Sanches, draxler and Mahrez. And I'd give smalling the captaincy and promote roshaun!

22 Apr 2016 23:00:31
If I had my way. I wouldn't have glazers or Woodward there. I'll have owners who cared and invest in our youth. Champions 3 out of 4 seasons so they must be doing something right. So give the u21s a chance and invest in the youth and u18s.
Disagree as much as you want but that's what our club is built on and watching the youth come through gives me more pleasure than the expensive purchases.

22 Apr 2016 23:31:01
Cheerleaders.

22 Apr 2016 23:58:03
Mort for chairman.

22 Apr 2016 22:00:09
I'd appoint myself as manager on 50% of LVG's salary. I think this would be an improvement and a bargain for the club.
However I doubt I could stick all the topics on this site. Still half a season, golden handshake a I could afford to retire!

23 Apr 2016 07:02:36
Away tickets all £20 and free transport to away grounds including the cheerleaders 😆😆.

23 Apr 2016 08:45:30
Ensure that Woodward focuses on marketing. For all his faults he has driven this side of the business up.
Make every effort to appoint Pochatino and see if he can bring in Ali as well.
Cheap away day tickets and travel For the fans.
Sell Rooney. I don't mind him but think he does not benefit the high energy game.
Appoint Ed002 head of communication so that the fans have a link to the club and appoint Ronnie to the youth scouting team.

Key decisions
In no particular order
Look at the ground, improve the bars and facilities, the scoreboard. Get a new stadium presenter, the one now i have never rated and build the music to kick off involving the crowd, make it so people can sing and talk rather than just turn the very loud music off and expect the crowd to take it straight on.
Find a song that identifies us. Hate them as you will but the Scousers unite behind theirs.
Invest in the youth facilities, we have seen City's so start doing something about it.
Scrap the automatic cup scheme
Bring in a director with real football experience and contacts
Work on relationships with agents like Mendes
Sack LVG and get Giggs to go and get experience elsewhere
Replace him with Mourinho.
Warren Joyce as number two because my worry is he will get poached if we do nothing.
Start planning for the next manager after Mourinho, 2 to 3 years away. Line up a Pochettino or even Joyce long term.
Go on holiday.

{Ed001's Note - you are right about the song, it does make a huge difference, not just within the stadium itself, but to people around the world watching. You can go anywhere in the world as a Liverpool fan and people will stop you and talk about YNWA. It is one of the things that people remember, even when the club would be forgotten due to lack of trophies in recent years. What happened to 'Always Look on the Bright Side of Life'? Your fans always used to sing that, and it is a good tune for getting people singing along and so creates an atmosphere. It doesn't need to be a special tune as such, by becoming part of the atmosphere you make it special.}

I agree with Brad and Brad.

23 Apr 2016 09:56:20
Thanks Ed001
Not sure about always look on the bright side as it was sung to beaten opponents and isn't a stirring song as such. I would have to think on it but would look at perhaps jazzing up the busby babes song. Needs thought but presently United have got it wrong for me. Need to have something to get people to their seats earlier because they want to be part of something.

23 Apr 2016 11:57:48
Gary Neville got it right with This is The One. Has to be a Roses song. Though I remember being at the Villa game in Fergie's last season when we won the league, and Not 19 Forever was being belted out. I liked that one, Ed01 :)

23 Apr 2016 09:56:20
Thanks Ed001

{Ed001's Note - I know it isn't a stirring song but everyone knows it and it gets people singing. It is good fun to create a fun atmosphere to get people happy and cheering, I was thinking.}

23 Apr 2016 11:55:49
Ed01, I agree with the Python song, and was just talking with friends the other day about how it's disappeared. It wasn't just used against beaten opponents, it was also used when we lost the title a few times, and I loved that we sang it on those occasions.

{Ed001's Note - why did it vanish?}

23 Apr 2016 12:56:23
LVG would be gone in a heartbeat. I'd bring in Jose on a 3 year deal on the condition that he adapts his style of play to be more attacking. Giggs would be offered a coaching role or an ambassadorial role depending on which appealed to him more. I would not force him on JM like the board did with LVG but would not force him out of the club all together. I would however tell him that if he ever wants to manage Manchester United - he needs to get managerial experience elsewhere before even being considered.

I'd give Jose whatever money he felt that he needed to mount a title challenge by his third season but would insist that he targets players who are in their early to mid twenties and builds a team that has pace and technical ability at its core. If DDG, Martial and Shaw could be tied down to even longer deals with the club - that would be a priority.

I'd invest heavily in the youth set up and offer high wages for all the coaches with a view to attracting the best in the world. The facilities would be completely overhauled and our youth players would be offered a high quality education as well as their training. I'd look at bringing Scholes, RVN and Vidic back to the club as coaches in their respective positions.

Finally, I'd actually look to keep EW on - but only in a role dealing with the branding of the club. As poor as he has been on the football side of things; he seems to be doing a great job selling the club overseas.

{Ed004's Note - I agree with every step you would make. Primarily on the point of signing more pacy and technical players. I wouldn't force youth players on Mourinho but hope he sees the potential in Mensah, Rashford, Perriera etc}

The only thing we could think of Ed01, was vaguely remembering opposition fans singing it back at us when they beat us, obviously changing the context of the song. The effect was lost a bit then, and it just seemed to die out. Don't know if I've explained that right or not!

I think, under the dross served up by LVG, that there's no better time to resurrect it.

On a footnote, as regards the opposition fans singing it back, in Scotland, the regular taunt at Aberdeen fans was, 'you're only sheep-shagging bassards'. The Aberdeen fans then claimed the song as their own and turned it back on the opposition fans, by singing loudly and proudly, 'we're only sheep-shagging bassards'. Totally negated the effect that opposition fans were trying to have, to the point where it all but died out.

Sorry for droning on, but I'm recovering from a small op, and I'm bored with time on my hands. A dangerous combination :)

{Ed001's Note - no different from normal for you ;-) that was how Ronnie started off on his scouting young players obsession. I think I wll call you little Ronnie.....}

Red man, hit the nail on the head, couldn't agree more. And in the process, get owners who are rich enough and knowledgeable enough and caring enough to move the club forward.
In 70s we used to sing 2 4 6 8 reds are great, Bachman turner overdrive.
And totally agree, we have the worst announcer in the football league.
I would also like us to announce goal scorers like they do in bayern and dortmund where the crowd join in with the announcer. The atmosphere at OT has been dire for long time.

{Ed004's Note - I'm really jealous of how much atmosphere the German clubs can make during their league games. Don't know how much of that is due to their standing areas though}

Schmidfield

Yes I remember 2468 and that is the principle I am getting at.

23 Apr 2016 14:08:02
Ed01, I need to get back to work quickly. I need real human contact. And not in a Ronnie way.

{Ed001's Note - whatever you say little Ron. Please do though, one Ron is enough for any one!}
