Question for everyone,

With all this talk about mourinho not giving youth a chance etc, what if he was managing us and Rashford and Fosu-Mensah wasn't performing well, would you want him to do what he thinks is best for the team or stick with youth due to pressure from the media and fans? For me he should play who he thinks is best for the team, which he has been doing since he started coaching. That's why he is regarded in the top three managers in the world!

Fact!

I think Mourinho not giving youth a chance is a myth I think he will of the same opinion as the rest of us if your good enough your old enough.

But how does a player find form again if he isn't playing? How does a young player learn from his mistakes if he isn't given a chance after he makes them?

How many mistakes did a young Ronaldo make? Would he have become the player he is today if Sir Alex dropped him every time he made a mistake?

Ultimately a lot of how you handle a young player will depend on that players mentality.

I'm not as against Mourinho as I once was, I still have some very real concerns about his suitablity for the job. Personally I don't think his style of play suits young players coming into top level football. His style relies on players not making mistakes, where as young players require an environment where they can make mistakes and can learn from them.

Nearly every team in the world that is reknown for giving youth a chance play an offensive front foot style of football. A style which risks and chance taking are incouraged, where mistakes aren't heavily punished. Players are allowed to test themselves and try things.

That really is the opposite of what Mourinho believes in, his ideas are closer to that of LvG than Sir Alex.

Agree with Dave.

It's not about making some mistakes, it's about impact when on the field. Some mistakes are fixable, like not tracking back - tactical awareness can grow, but a player who has no impact is unlikely to get a constant run out, nor is one that has no spirit, is lazy in practice, or breaks team rules. A young player who sulks or becomes rebellious or disloyal when he's disciplined or corrected is not likely to make it either. I cannot see how any manager would not be looking at Rashford, Fosu-Mensah, Martial, and Shaw (assuming he can come back to the same level) and seeing them as likely major pillars of the new United. These young men have all shown they are more than ready to play with the grown-ups. There are others who might make it, but are still to convince that they can step up and perform at the top level week in week out. In this category I would put CBJ, Varela, Pereira and the disappointing Memphis. Others do not appear to have what it takes - Wilson, Keane, Powell and Januzaj spring to mind.

Under Mourinho we're a lot more likely to find ourselves in positions where we are able to give young players a chance to learn rather than relying on them to get results as LVG has done.

In seasons past there were plenty of games against teams in the lower half where SAF could give 2 or 3 young players a kick without it jeopardising the result. Under LVG however I can't recall one game where that's been the case and moreover can't recall a game that I've been certain that we'd get the win even with our strongest 11.

This weekend against Villa is about as close as I have been but I would not be at all surprised if we dropped points still.

The advantage some of our young players have is that they are currently playing in the first team and with Mourinho out of work he is getting a good view of what they can do. Obviously they still need to show it in training and pre season. For me:
Fosu-Mensah will be a starter next year at right back. Reminds me of Ivanovic, physically strong but with pace, can play liken an additional CB.
Shaw (still see him as a youngster) will be a starter and thrive under Mourinho. Borthwick Jackson I think could be a surprise number 2 to Shaw next year. Why spend on FB when we are covered well there.
Rashford I think will stay in the first team but I do think we will bring in another CF. He has shown signs of quality but a full season this early would be too much.
Pereira could thrive at number 10 if his attitude improves and with a complementary CF.
Martial would stay on the left of a mobile front 3/ 4 and I think his hard working attitude will be liked by Mourinho.

Discount Dave Jose not giving youth a chance a myth, look at the facts, plus getting rif of lukaku, de bruyne, schurle, cuadrado, and getting the worst out of player of the season hazard hmmm.

15 Apr 2016 21:44:13
Eric is god lukaku or drogba? No brainer, De bruyne apparently thought he could walk into a team without working hard, hazard clearly had an attitude problem. How you can relate this to Mourinho not playing youth is ridiculous.

The only reason we're playing youth this season is because lvg sold everyone without replacing them.

Like I said every manager will be of the same opinion if your good enough your old enough.
