Would you take John Terry for a year to help organise our defence and give some leadership.

Agree0 Disagree11

08 Apr 2016 02:53:54
Heck no!
Personally I can't abide the man. And I don't see it as a good move at all mate.

08 Apr 2016 03:11:53
No.

Bring back Steve Bruce.

08 Apr 2016 09:08:44
John Terry was, I believe a Utd fan as a kid so I wouldn't summararily dismiss him, however is he still good enough and would he come for the one year left in him. I would rather look to getting a defensive coach in, I have long called for Rio to be added to our coaching staff and that may, in my opinion, be more relevant to the club than bringing an ageing Terry.

08 Apr 2016 09:25:09
No he is over rated. Poor positionally but because he throws himself in hard and screams at people he gets called world class. Also he's a terrible human being.

08 Apr 2016 09:36:15
If we make an offer from him, it will only boost his stupid ego. Besides, I don't think he will join us anyway. He is too blue. I wouldn't want him to join us and strike a relationship with another colleague's wife. Bad for teamwork but good for personal pleasure. Never liked him and will never like him.

08 Apr 2016 11:12:00
Shocking thread this is. First of all, John Terry is far from overrated- he's only been the most consistent player in the premier league over the last 10-15 years. And why is this even up for discussion? He wouldn't think twice about rejecting you lot, he bleeds blue and always will. Captain Leader Legend.

08 Apr 2016 12:10:27
saim ye can keep him.

08 Apr 2016 12:19:57
I wish we would but I don't think we're going to. Admittedly he isn't at the top level anymore but just because you dislike his personality doesn't mean you can discount his incredible ability. Furthermore I can understand why you wouldn't want him and we all have our opinions, but I believe it is very unfair to suggest he's overrated and was only ever given credit because he jumps in front of the ball.

08 Apr 2016 12:26:35
Saim
I read that we wouldn't want him anyway as instead of Chevrolet we would have to replace it with Durex on our shirts.

08 Apr 2016 12:54:41
The only player more overrated in the prem era was slippy.

Terry is such a bad reader of the game. All those last ditch tackles he gets applauded for is because he cocked up to start with.

08 Apr 2016 13:25:06
Obviously as I said everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I'm afraid I'm getting a sense of bias here. A few interesting facts about JT- most clean sheets by a defender in the PL, the highest scoring defender in the PL winner of the most best defender awards in Europe, the defender with the most appearances in the FIFPro 11, the defender to win best player of the season the most and also the player to wear the captan's armband the most. So I'm assuming that all of those professional footballers, managers and journalists are all blinded by the fact he's overrated because of his ability to do a last ditch block? Incredible stuff.

08 Apr 2016 13:47:29
Messi won best player at the last world cup. Was he the best player?

Casillas won keeper of the year how many times? Was he the best keeper?

No.

Terrys just a pathetic attention seeker with an ego the size of the London eye. Just because he shouts at people and slides around last ditch he's this great defender?

Rio, vidic, stam, Campbell, Adams, Bruce, Carvalho, all better than him in the prem era.

08 Apr 2016 14:01:12
Come on mate, don't be ridiculous. Is that the only thing you've got to say about how he just shouts around the pitch and slides in last ditch? Not going to mention how he reads the game or how he wins the majority of headers? How he puts his body on the line for his club and his country. And forget the awards then, the stats about clean sheets do not lie. Furthermore, whilst he might have his negatives regarding his personality, what you never hear about is how he's always attending chelsea youth matches and is an enormous supporter of the women's team. And the countless amount of charity work he does. Not to mention how he will always be there for a fan in a time of need. I can see you can't contribute much to this argument so this shall be my last reply to you- and also your list hasn't had much thought to it, I can clearly see you've just thought of good centre backs in the PL era and made a list and suggested they're better than Terry. Are you Anton Ferdinand or Wayne Bridge in disguise?

08 Apr 2016 14:09:35
Terry, Cole and Lampard are/ were all over over rated and should never been classed as world class. Terry has never been in the same league as Rio, Campbell or Adams as England CB's, then throw in Vidic, Kompany and Stam, Terry falls further down the list. He can sit alongside Hyppia and Carragher as good CB's. People love his last ditch tackles and diving in head first, I put this down to poor reading of the game and poor positioning.

Lampard got to score his goals thanks to Makelele and then always having a donkey to do his defensive duty, we smashed Germany with Gerrard and Scholes and then when Lampard came into the team, Scholes got pushed out to the left and England never performed well again. Lampard was lazy and lacked defensive ability to be classed as a World Class CM. Not fit to shine Scholes, Pirlo, Seedorf, Keane, Davids, Viera or the greatest of all Bryan Robson's boots.

As for Cole, his pace always got him out of trouble, World Class? Carlos, Maldini, Lizarazu, Lahm, Irwin were all World Class. Cole couldn't header, rarely scored, rarely assisted. He was a good solid LB but not World Class. Shaw will make Cole look like a Sunday Pub team player.

In case it's not clear, I hate Chelsea!

08 Apr 2016 14:18:19
So due to your final sentence it is fair for me to believe you are biased, Ports? I feel like you're all just playing a sick joke on me. A midfielder who isn't world class does't score over 200 goals for a team at the top of the game. Let me guess, Evra was better than Cole? Carrick better than Lampard? Smiling better than Terry?

08 Apr 2016 14:23:20
And please don't try and discredit Lampard by suggesting he couldn't defend when your best midfielder over the last 20 years was Paul Scholes (not a dig at Scholes, just his defensive ability)

08 Apr 2016 14:28:56
Yeah I'd have Evra ahead of Cole. Lampard needs a Carrick to perform, Carrick doesn't need a Lampard to perform. My view on Smalling is that he might not quite get to Rio or Vidic level, probably will reach Terry level though!

Can't believe Terry is a huge fan of the Women's team, that surprises me!

I do have a hint of biased but the fact I am slating English players suggests not, I loved Zola as a player, would have taken Makelele, Drogba, Robben at the drop of a hat, I'd even take Hazard, I think i'd even take Willian as well.

De Gea's better than Courtois as well Saim!

08 Apr 2016 14:35:06
Not going to dispute the De Gea one, he's a class act and Courtois has been fairly poor this season. Evra was great but he's certainly not ahead of Cole although I'll let you get away with saying they're on a par. Please tell me the Smalling thing was a joke? And does that matter? That's like me suggesting Maldini would look bang average with Ross Turnbull in goal because of the amount of goals his team would concede. Football is a team game in which individuals stand out so your Lampard argument is kind of irrelevant.

08 Apr 2016 14:36:22
Cole was the best lb in the world for a time and was up there with the best for a number of years . One of englands best every players and one of the only players that could go toe to toe with ronaldo

Terry was also a top cb up there with rio and vidic, all good players .

Lamps was also a top player you don't score the amount of goals he did from cm and not be a good player.

08 Apr 2016 14:41:44
John Terry? What happens when he's injured, doesn't travel and the team plays away? Do the wives travel aswell? Even if Giggs was manager you would know exactly where he was on match day.

08 Apr 2016 15:11:41
I'm winding you up Saim, and the Smalling comment was a joke, he will be better than Terry!

I've not disputed they are all good players, it's the World Class comments which I appreciate I brought up that bothers me, I think as a nation we have produced very limited World Class Players and when we produce very good players, we label them World Class but for me that tarnishes proper World Class players like Maldini, Carlos, Zidane. It's a debate that will rumble on forever and divide opinions. I think Rooney has just falling short of being World Class. I think we have players who are capable of becoming World Class in Ali, Barkley, Shaw, Kane and potentially Stones although I personally still haven't seen enough of him to understand the hype.

Just for the record, I rate World Class players as a player that would walk into any team in the world AND make them better. Messi, Ronaldo, Rashford for example.

08 Apr 2016 18:26:26
I disagree. Cole was a good played. Him and evra were the two best players in the world in that position.

Lampard was a good player too. Yes he needed a water carrier. But he was a good player.

08 Apr 2016 16:21:19
O wow. Terry and Giggs on one side. WAGs beware.
