Well that's 9 goals and 3 assists in his last 6 U21 games. Will Keane definitley deserves a spot on the bench and a cameo against Sunderland.

Hat trick of assists also for Memphis - great confidence builder and a fantastic rabonna.

It's only the U21s, but it could be big for both of them.

Keane doesn't have that explosive pace to be a top top striker. It's a real shame because he has an excellent football brain as his goal and general play tonight showed. Memphis had a reasonable game but let's be realistic Norwich were pretty poor which made him look better than he really was. I was watching him closely and he often beat his man but then over elaborated and his final pass was not as consistently good as it should be. He got much more time and space than in first team football. He also didn't bother to do much tracking back and yes I kkno ow we were winning easily but I still want to see him do the dirty work too. I am sure that with good coaching and maturity he will be considered in Tim's to be a good purchase. I just hope it happens sooner rather than later.

{Ed007's Note - I've not seen enough of him to know if the Tims would he happy with his purchase, Janko and Blackett haven't done much for us so far. He's called Keane, he's half Irish and he could have played for the ROI - we'll give him a chance! (rofl)

Will Keane has looked far too good for under 21 level for several years.

Unfortunately he has been unable to produce that form in either the Premier league or the Championship.

In 48 first team appearances he has 4 goals.

Its a shame but he's 23 years old, of course he's making lads 3 or 4 years younger than him look foolish.
But against men he is unable to replicate that form.

I wish him well, but both Ashley Fletcher and Marcus Rashford are far more likely to have a long term future at our club.

Even when Memphis plays well he gets no credit from some on here. He is the new scapegoat following a long line of them: Cleverley, Carrick, Smalling, DE GEA. He will come good - give him some credit, he is far away from the end product.

Sorry Ed meant time not tims.

{Ed007's Note - Och forget it (facepalm)

That bad injury ruined his chance.

Mort, injuries to youth players are suprising common early in there professional career. The step up in intensity and physicality on bodies that are still developing is probably the cause.

But to make it as a professional you need to be able to over come your injuries.

Its a shame in Keanes case, but I'm sure he'll still go one to have a good career.

Agreed but losing an entire season with a bad knee injury at that age then losing most of the next season on rehab and rebuilding fitness meant he lost 18 months at a key development age. If he hadn't lost that time he would probably have kicked on. Not necessarily at us but probably at a mid table prem club.

My pal is a North End season ticket holder. Said Keane was lazy, slow and generally an appalling player. It's great to see him banging them in, but let's not forget U21 standard is not amazing and any Championship side worth its salt would turn our U21s over.
