What a disappointing way to end the game yesterday, we performed well and dominated for about 60 minutes of that game and we should have capitalized on the chances we had. However I'm pleased with the performance and a point at Stamford Bridge still looks good (despite nearly getting 3).

I see some people blaming Memphis for throwing the game away because he didn't square it to Morgan in the box. Now these guys are clutching at straws here, yes Memphis should have passed the ball earlier but we cannot blame him for the next 20 odd passes the Chelsea team had before the goal. Morgan shouldn't have been that high up the pitch, especially at 1-0 in the 91st minute, the defense also has to answer to why Diego Costa had so much space (Blind seemed to be gutted about his decision) . What I hate seeing is fans jumping on a players back who hasn't really played much in the past few months, is young and currently low on confidence, it's like you want him to fail. Ed002 said Memphis would struggle if he left early and we're seeing that now, let's support the boy when he plays and hope that next season he hits the ground running.

Top 4 hopes aren't over yet!

It could have been all over if the referee noticed Fabregas kick out at Smalling after coming back on the pitch and completely off the ball. Don't know if it will be looked into at all though. Would have been a straight red.

When did that happen Supasub? I can't remember seeing it, however I did miss 5 minutes due to a power cut.

Compeletely agree Weggy, its a team game and it was the team that conceeded that late goal.

Depay made a mistake 90 yards from hos own goal, if we can't let young players make mistakes that far from their own goal then we might as well not play them at all.

In all my years on this site I have found that people always have a player or two they have to all ways moan about. Be it Nani, Cleverley, Evans, Welbeck, Hernandez, Fellaini, Smalling, Carrick now Depay.

Like you said what was Morgan doing that high up the pitch when we are defending a 1-0 in the 90th minute.

Then the whole team allowed Chelsea to pass the ball out from their own penalty box without a challenge until they were in our penalty box.

What about CBJ's sliding tackle not clearing the ball thus leaving DDG in no mans land?

What about DDG not being vocal enough or seeing CBJ going in for the tackle and staying on his line rather than rushing out?

The only issue I had with Depay and he's far from the only one who does it. Was he didn't chase the ball down once he lost it. But Rooney, Martial, Lingard, Mata, all our forwards have been guilty of that, so I can only deduce that LvG doesn't insist on getting our players to defend from the front. In which case where does the fault lie?

Was at the latter end of the first half. I think it was completely missed by any replays because it was off the ball after smalling tackled fabregas fairly at the sideline but i think there is footage online.

My question is why did LVG bring on Memphis in the first place? He is the last guy we needed to bring on that late up 1-0 with Chelsea pressing forward. Ander Herrera would have made more sense earlier than later.

Memphis was really bad, but the goal came from CBJ's failure to step up with the rest of the defence leaving Costa onside. You have to put it down to overall team breakdown and a general trend nowadays to not press home an advantage.

1-1 was a disappointing but fair result. Both goalies performed well. Courtois made 2 excellent saves, but De Gea made more.

shaw,

I think it is unfair to judge who the better team was by how many saves the keeper made, we were by far the better team until the final 15 minutes when inexplicably we just allowed them to attack us until they scored.

Depay coming on made no sense, but LVG's subs never do!

It was the same sort of performance we saw a lot of under Moyes. Doing pretty well, but unable to finish a team off or hold on to a lead.

A Moyes like performance is a step in the right direction though, at last we are up to that level again!

Since when are we chuffed with top 4 btw? We need a small miracle if we are even going to achieve that. Just wait until Europa League starts and he is back to his tinkering/ red zone ways.

Yeah Supasub i caught that bit too. Was surprised our players didn't make a big case out of it and I didn't hear LvG talk about it either.

Dont think menphsis should even came on, thought Morgan should came in but kept Fellaini, not his biggest fan but he done well clearing the lines wi balls in the box, thought he might helped to protect the lead better : (

Memphis coming on was the right decison. Chelsea were pressing high up the pitch to try and force an equaliser.

There for the best thing to do is bring on someone with pace to push the team back and give you a player through which you could counter and maybe bury the game.

Had Memphis squared it to Morgan for him to sweep home what would have been our second goal that would have been 2-0 game over.

The smallest of margins win you or lose you points.

It's ok having a go at Depay but we gave away countless free kicks on the edge of the box inviting pressure on and when we could clear we just kicked it up the pitch for it to come back, LVG was right to be annoyed we did the hard work and gave it away in the last ten minutes.
