Just watching some off vidic best moments, what a player, would kill for somebody like him now, best captain since keano, 1 final though though would love to of seen the likes of costa going up against him, vidic would of had him for breakfast. Happy retirement vidic true legend.

Horlicks to all this talk of 'ball playing' centre backs and defenders who can bring the ball out and link play. No, that's what midfielders are for. Defenders are there to DEFEND. Vidic was one of the best.

Watching a few videos of him today just make me realise how few CB there actually are like him around today. I'd kill to have someone with his attributes in our team. The only person in our current team who shows any glimpse of aggression and toughness is schweinsteiger and he's getting on a bit.

vidic and fedry where about as good as it gets both had different attributes, that gave u a great CB pair.

I just love how he nailed some of the players that would be considered as 'hard men' of the time. Phil Jones making just one of those tackles would be out for a year. To think I was one of those expecting Jones to fill his shoes.

I also had high hopes for jones, even more so because my uncle is a scout for Blackburn and he was raving about him since he was a 14 year old lad, don't think we will ever see the best of him.

Possibly the best defender I have seen in my time supporting the club a bit biased maybe but an absolute warrior, him rio and paddy god we have been spoiled 😢.

There is a real shortage of defensive quality in the world today. This is down to the European way of playing, driven by the likes of van Gaal and Pep etc. They want their defenders to pass the ball first and foremost rather than dominate the strikers. The need for a combative defender in such systems is unnecessary due to the opposition barely touching the ball.
