I really like what Pochettino is doing at Spurs, and what he did at Southampton.

His style of play works well and is very balanced. It requires a high level of fitness from his players, but he manages to get everyone to put in the hard miles while not stifling their creativity. He also uses young players well, with players such a Shaw, Ward-Prowse, Chambers, Kane, Mason, Dier and Alli all either making a name under him or improved while under his tutelage.

My only concern about him would be the strain of all the extra commercial requirements at a club such as Manchester United. He prefers to wear a track suit over an actual suit. More of a coach who manages rather than a manager who coaches.

Which would be fine if the club was restructured which I feel it should be to allow the manager more time on the training pitch less time off it.

I like the idea of having both a director for the academy which we haven't had since Choccy left, someone who can manager the progression of all the youngsters and help organise loans for them and make sure all levels are working in the right manner and pulling in the same direction.

And a director of football type role, someone to work with the manager closely but take on the responsibility of organising things that happen off the pitch. Something our chief executive should be doing, but I'd like to see someone with a better background in football to take on such a role.

Hmm, Alli and Dier were players bought in, and Kane and Mason weren't doing anything special when he went to Spurs. Both were expected to leave. Southampton have a cracking academy set up though so he definitely benefitted there.

Mason has vanished off the face of the earth, he looked great last season. Where is Bentaleb as well?

I don't think you will be able to prise anyone from Tottenham at the moment!

Mason is injured and bentaleb has only just come back from injury.

Hi Shappy,
Pochettino is undoubtedly a good coach, he plays a high-tempo game, not dissimilar to Klopp it has to be said but he has inherited strong youth rather than made many. Dier I believe was a signing 'going to happen' before he arrived, Kane has to thank Sherwood for his chance and he certainly was making an impression. Mason was also given his chance by Sherwood, as was Bentaleb . Young players at Southampton such as you mention were already given their chance under Nigel Adkins.
Alli is the one that stands out for me as the one decent player he has 'found'. One great performance against us in a Cup game and Pochettino took a punt, so far paying off.

Look forward to your response.

Of course a lot of the young players he has given chances to had been at the clubs prior to him coming to the clubs. He has only been in English football for 3 years and has managed both Southampton and Spurs in that time. So he hasn't had a massive amount of time to develop youngsters of his own choosing.

But what he has done is really give a chance to those youngsters, and not just the odd league cup game but an actual run in the first team. He has givem them his trust in made them first choice ahead of older more experienced players. He has stuck with them when they have had poor games and help develop them into better players.

Chambers and Ward-Prowse looked immense for him at Southampton, and since he no longer manages them they both look like they have gone backwards.
