Just goes to show how deluded you are if you think Merson is spot on about anything.

He is also in a title race with Owen Hargreaves and Robbie savage for world's most ridiculous pundit.

If you haven't seen it Ed he is predicting that city, arsenal, spurs and chelsea will be top four in that order.

{Ed001's Note - ah ok, I hadn't seen it to be honest. I make a point of not wasting my time knowingly reading stuff written by morons. Merson was a decent player, nothing special, but he is purely there as a pundit to talk crap and stir up a response.}

It's a bit reckless at this stage, but who honestly thinks Chelsea will continue in this manner? We have dropped 12 points in less than a third of a season, so if we keep this up we will drop another 24. We are only 13 ahead of Chelsea and we know they are capable of going on a long run once they rediscover their form of early last season.

Spurs, Arsenal and City are all playing better than us in my opinion. I don't think this prediction is too crazy in all honesty. We have a lot of games, a very thin squad, injuries are starting to happen and youth will be relied on too much. We look more fatigued than we should at this stage of the season imo.

Chelsea have a strong squad, Spurs a fit squad that look like gelling well. Arsenal and City everybody will have in their top 4 now. I am concerned about the two Merseyside clubs as well.

A lot of teams are capable of taking points off everyone this season. I think there is just as good a chance us competing for the league as dropping out of the top 4 in all honesty. Merson is a bit of a moron, but any neutral watching us this season and seeing how congested the league is, would not be putting their house on us finishing top 4.

We have stumbled about so far and managed to pick up wins, the real challenge is about to begin because of fitness and a lack of numbers.

Assuming Jose turns it around though beast. Looks like players are now going public with their criticisms. He's losing the dressing room. Couple more defeats I can't see him making the new year. Who would they bring in though.

13 Nov 2015 12:09:41
If Jose turns this around I will laud him as brilliant beyond belief. If he manages by some devine miracle to win the league I will laud him as the greatest PL manager of all time. They are in major strife at the moment and I think they would be doing well to finish 6th this season.

13 Nov 2015 13:29:55
Agreed. They've been poor. Many key players aren't pulling their weight and look disinterested.

I would bet 100 pound with anyone that Chelsea won't finish within 9 points of us. They are knackered; full of players who are not up for getting their hands dirty.

We will be fine this season. Some fans need to detach emotional sentiment and look at the facts: Two points of the top of the EPL; top of our CL group; best defence in the country; 8 clean sheets; and some fantastic players who are only going to get better. Also, January is around the corner and it wouldn't surprise me to see a signing or two.

If Jose was managing us and getting the same results, every pundit in the land would be salivating and declaring us champions.

I personally am over the moon with the way we are progressing. The dark days are gone.

I think that Chelsea have fully written off a top four finish this season. There will be a significant squad reshuffle in jan with an eye on next season. The only question is whether Jose is the one in charge.

Merson is a complete tool and should simply be ignored.

13 Nov 2015 15:58:56
That last sentence summed it up perfectly Danny.

14 Nov 2015 10:16:49
He predicts Spurs to lose every week but thinks they'll finish in the top 4, sums him up really.

Too early to write anyone off. Chelsea even with all their troubles have 26 games to steady the ship.

A run of 4 or 5 wins on the trot will have them close the gap to top 4 and with their squad and experience they will pull teams in in the second half of the season and we all know they are well capable of doing that.

They are really 10 points off 4th since leicester is not a realistic top 4 team. I would agree if they continue to stutter in the next 5 or 6 games and still a double digit gap to top 4, then they are not factor for top 4.

Injuries and volume of games will be a factor for everyone hence teams like southampton and everton might get there.
