Just wondering guys. What would it take for you to let De Gea go if you were in charge? I think it is inevitable that he will be the Real Madrid number 1 at some point, probably next year to be fair. But what deal would you take?

I would use him to heavily subsidize a fee for Ronaldo so we were not paying a great deal for him in terms of transfer fees. Then look to invest in a new keeper. Probably Lloris or Leno would be my first two targets.

I would tell him u signed a new 5 year contract just over 3 months ago, your not leaving.

I'd then give Arsenal 60m for Sanchez :)

11 Nov 2015 20:30:05
Probably many disagrees to this but I obviously don't want him to leave but if it where to happen I'd rather have bale used in a deal rather than Ronaldo.

11 Nov 2015 20:32:13
Given that he has signed a new deal I think we have leverage now.

If a 24 year old Buffon costs 32mp in 2001 then a 25 year old DDG is worth at least 50mp now.

So I would ask Madrid for 50mp or I would pay DDG + 35mp and ask for Bale.

11 Nov 2015 20:43:00
No swaps straight cash: World record fee for a keeper.

11 Nov 2015 20:56:30
Bale over Ronaldo any day.

11 Nov 2015 20:14:23
I don't want Ronaldo back. He was a great player for us but I fear it would be a circus. His ego is massive and his age is against him. It may be an unpopular view but there are many I would prefer.

11 Nov 2015 21:41:49
I would ask for Bale and Varane in a straight swap for DeGea (yea I know), if there not happy with that then no deal.
Play hardball all the way till the last day of the window then pull the plug on the 11th hour :-)

12 Nov 2015 00:18:06
Ronaldo anyday he will score shed loads of goals and win us the champions league Bale will not do that for us or score the same amount.

12 Nov 2015 03:57:27
AJH, Bring Ronaldo back has many more pros than cons. he would still be better than anything we have currently, he would be a great role model for the younger players, make our club even more popular = more money. I think he would score at least 20 goals a season.
He has always had that ego, didn't stop us from being successful when he was last here.

12 Nov 2015 08:49:07
I'm of the opinion that Ronaldo has peaked and is on the decline. All be it that he is still head and shoulders above most players. But I would rather not see him rejoin as it could only be detrimental to his legacy with our club.

Bale is a great player, but one who uses his pace and power. He will decline rapidly once his body starts to give out on him. That might not be for 5 years or it could be in a couple of years. I would be cautious spending too much on him.

If DDG is to leave to Real Madrid then I'd want James Rodriguez as part of the deal. I think he is massively underrated mostly due to the big names he plays with on a weekly basis. I think he is in a similar situation to what Sanchez was at Barcelona. And I think he would have a similar impact in the Premier league as well. I also think he would work best with the players we have already. He is just as keen to play an assist as he is to try and score himself. Lont term if Depay works out as a goal scoring winger on the left hand side then we need someone on the right who is prepared to pass to a team mate who is in a better position. Otherwise we will end up with three players in the final third and none of them will pass to each other.

Also we should be able to get a straight swap with DDG and Rodriguez where as Bale would require significant investment as well.

So for me it would be James Rodriguez everytime.

12 Nov 2015 09:06:22
Shappy Madrid will never let Rodriguez go at the moment as he is a marketing machine and the golden boy of Adidas (I think it's Adidas) . I am sure I read somewhere he is currently the 4th most marketable footballer behind Ronaldo, Messi and Neymar.

12 Nov 2015 09:39:56
James isn't going to inject the pace we need in our attack or better finishing. Bale would inject pace, but for now seems happy to build at RM. Ronaldo all the way for me, I have no clue why anyone would be against signing the best player in the world who would come in and be the best player at the club and in the League. The fear factor would instantly be restored in our attack.

12 Nov 2015 10:49:25
Shappy

I have to disagree on James not least due to his lack of pace. I also recall that James is the face of Madrid in South America and is their main marketing advantage there so I don't see them selling him.

I am not sure DDG would go to Madrid now given what happened in summer. It seems Madrid have their eye on Hazard and I think that deal would likely free Bale or perhaps Ronaldo. I would not sell DDG unless we had to but would only look at Bale from Madrid.

12 Nov 2015 14:23:18
the fact is james is a class act, in a couple of years i think he will be the best in the world (at least top 3 )

12 Nov 2015 19:55:05
I'm not saying its likely we would get James just that imo he is the player I would choose. With Varane a close second.

Also although he isn't lightening, I wouldn't call him a slow player.

12 Nov 2015 21:06:50
Does he really need to be lightning quick, playing in behind the striker?

I know he can play anywhere really across the front, and if you're looking at him as a winger, then yes, he might not be overly rapid. But as a central attacking midfielder, which is where I personally think he's most effective, then the supposed lack of pace wouldn't concern me at all.

I love the guy, but unfortunately I highly doubt I'll ever see him in a Utd shirt.

12 Nov 2015 20:46:42
"Also we should be able to get a straight swap with DDG and Rodriguez where as Bale would require significant investment as well. "

Shappy I don't think Madrid value De Gea as highly as we do. They would rather keep James for his marketability than have De Gea in my opinion. They played hardball over De Gea in the summer whereas when they wanted James they went out and got him. If and it would be an almighty if we had any chance of getting James I assure you it would in for a significant fee even if Dave www involved.

13 Nov 2015 08:37:12
Maze I think you'll find it was us who played hardball with them in the summer. They kept making offers and we kept turning them down. In the end they made us a offer which we viewed as acceptable and which we felt was in line with our valuation. It fell through at the last minute.

If we were prepared to play hard ball when he had one year left on his contract then we are hardly going to roll over and get our tummy tickled next summer when he will have three years left on his contract.

I'll amend my statement and say that we would be able to get James Rodriguez for a lot less money than we could get Bale for. Whether that deal included DDG or not.

Regardless this whole thread is all semantics anyway as I highly doubt any deal we did for DDG to go to Real Madrid would likely be a straight cash deal anyway as player swaps are rare and awkward as you have to sqaubble over the valuation of two players and deal with twice as many agents.

If DDG goes to Real Madrid I expect he'll go for between 30-35m in a straight cash deal. Whether that's next summer or not is another matter, as Real seem determind to signing Hazard and they want Lewandowski as well. Both would be expensive deals and the Madridistas are having a massive love in with Navas atm, so politically it wouldn't make sense to spend so much replacing him atm. I think Real Madrid may leave DDG where he is until 2017 unless they can't get deals done for the offensive players they want next summer.

13 Nov 2015 09:00:03
jred. I think the next best in the world behind messi and ronaldo has to be neymar. he is pure class and is the only one imo other than the aforementioned 2 who can win the ballon d'or in the next few years. i think playing with messi is holding him back a bit. james is not quite in the same class for me.

{Ed025's Note - i think suarez might have something to say about that FB..

13 Nov 2015 12:13:09
From what I understood this summer it was Madrid who left it to the last minute to call our bluff on whether De Gea stayed or went and then ultimately pulled out of the deal to suit their own agenda.

13 Nov 2015 12:14:21
I would agree completely. I feel Suarez gets overlooked by some on here due to his Liverpool affiliation. Suarez is the only player near Messi and Ronaldo for me who can change a game with the swing of his boot.

13 Nov 2015 12:28:03
perhaps he could, but I don't see Suarez getting much better than he is already, neymar on the other hand.
