Just watched the Rooney documentary, my hat is off to you Rooney, the boy should have all our backing not bashing, as beckham said he would go through a brick wall for his team, county, team mates, fans,
I think when he knows he can't compete he will walk away, I'd much rather him on my team, and if I was an Englishman I would be very proud of that man.
If he was Irish he would be looked at as a hero,

All we want is for him to turn up and start playing decent football. Need the old Rooney spirit back.
05 Oct 2015 22:57:06
He seems to have lost that fight and drive because he is on an undeserved wage and has a secure position.
05 Oct 2015 23:26:42
And your the one that wants to see the return of Ronaldo, what kind of wages is he on, has he lost the fight.
Its not all down to Rooney the players around him need to fight a bit more, against arsenal we should have been in their faces all the time, we gave them too much space, no one closing down, no one putting pressure on them, we need 11 players to fight not one

No room for sentiment in football. He will go down as a united great, he has been brilliant for 10 years, but his days as a top player are numbered and we can't keep playing a player who's performance levels are so poor just for sentimental reasons. We have to do what's right for Manchester United, not what's right for Wayne Rooney.
05 Oct 2015 23:41:47
Leahy, i agree that Ronaldo shouldn't return at his age and value, but please don't try telling us Rooney deserves similar wages to Ronaldo for what they both produce on the pitch. One is a Ferarri and the other is a Ford Focus
06 Oct 2015 00:00:24
You're off the mark there stand, Rooney did a lot of donkey work for Ronaldo, Ronaldo is up there with the best of them. You said we should do what's right for United, Ronaldo was always going to go to Spain.
Rooney was always going to stay at United if we wanted him to stay. I'd rather a Rooney, Keane, scholes, beckham, giggs, boys that want to play for the shirt, and if we are doing right thing by United, what would you have done with ddg? he wanted out, he refused to play for United. he has no other choice now only go back in goals and say he loves United.
06 Oct 2015 00:22:31
This the Wayne Rooney who twice asked for a transfer? Who twice held the club to ransom for a huge pay rise? Tou can't compare British players to foreign players in that sense. Rooney, Keane, Scholes, Giggs, they're families we're all here born and bred in the UK. Ronaldo and ddg families are in Spain etc so it's inevitable at some point they will want to return home. Ddg never handed in a transfer request ala rooney, or demanded double his salary. Or refused to play for that matter
{Ed007's Note - DDG did refuse to play, the manager confirmed it. And I wouldn't fancy telling Roy Keane he was born in the UK never mind tell him he's British.}
06 Oct 2015 00:30:11
Stand,
Did you just watch the documentary? I think it's pretty clear that he didn't ask for a transfer on the 2nd occasion but here we go again we people making things up just to have a go at him. If he wanted to go he would have gone, simple as that.
06 Oct 2015 00:44:53
I've not watched it and I'm not going to because I don't really care what Rooney is like off the pitch, i'm more interested in what he does on it.
At the moment that's not a lot and I think he needs some time out of the side. We need to bring Herrera in and start playing 4 3 3 with Rooney on the bench for a while.
I don't know if he is past it or just out of form but he shouldn't be in the team after recent performances.
06 Oct 2015 06:23:40
On Rooney, I watched the documentary and it was interesting, no interview with SAF although that is likely due to his feud with the BBC as much as anything with Rooney.
It may just be me but his kids were running around in England shirts, his trophy cabinet apart from one photo I saw with the trinity seemed mostly to be England. Rooney made a career decision to come to United to play for SAF and win trophies. His love is obviously with Everton and that's who he supports but to me he was an instinctive footballer playing on the edge and has fought our cause many times. However that edge has eroded over time, happiness in his life with his kids and age seem to have nullified that edge, that rough spark that he had, the fight to better himself from where he started has faded because he got there, he achieved his ambitions. I think SAF felt he needed a jolt and gave him one in his final season yet now he is in a comfort zone. Rooney last night looked older than his years and whilst disregarding the two incidents often discussed on here I think his standards are declining. I like Rooney, I think he has given United a lot but time waits for no one and he needs to earn his place and find that spark or sit on the bench.
{Ed025's Note - good post that red man..
06 Oct 2015 07:00:52
stand roy keane would rather be described as an axe murderer than be called British. quit the roomey asked to leave the club BS unless you are going to slate all the players who have done the same. rooney imo does not deserve to be in the team on form and that's all that matters.
06 Oct 2015 08:07:00
Ed007
The manager never confirmed DDG refused to play and you are making things up. He refused to play him due to the fact that he thought his head was not there.
{Ed007's Note - Here's a direct quote from LVG, a direct quote means that it's EXACTLY what was said by someone, you got that now? OK then, here goes for the umpteenth time, drumroll please...
"We have a goalkeeping coach, Frans Hoek, so I'm not doing everything alone. Frans had a meeting with David and he asked him, 'Do you want to play?' The answer was no."
Now if you're still struggling to comprehend that there's nothing I can do to help you, read it slowly and think about what each word means, especially the word 'no', that's the important one.
Wait a minute, how can I be making things up when there's a direct quote from LVG backing up what I've said?
That's very strange. (wasntme)
06 Oct 2015 11:37:54
His head wasn't there it was in Madrid, and he did refuse to play.
06 Oct 2015 13:06:56
Stop making exact quotes up Bond ;)
{Ed007's Note - I always knew learning ventriloquism and watching reruns of Van Der Valk over and over again would come in handy.
06 Oct 2015 14:59:51
Ed007
I have never seen that quote and may i ask where you got it from?
The reverse side of things was when Mata said he is ready to play but that is the managers decision.
{Ed007's Note - It was well documented at the time, I'm sure a quick Google search round about the time of the Villa and Spurs matches will find numerous sources for it, and after that try Googling 'apology'.}

Ed007 and Ken, I clearly know Roy Keane is irish, it was a slip of the tongue comment but thanks for highlighting it. What I meant was all these British and Irish players and their families are settled in the own countries where as the likes of ddg left family and friends behind to join. It's inevitable at some point they may want to return. If we can't handle that then we shouldn't sign foreign players.
Gds no I didn't watch it and have no interest in watching it either. What I gather he said was "if I'm not going to play I should move on". Does he Havel a Devine right to play? He could of concentrated more on winning his place back. At the end of the day I'm not interested in what he's like off the pitch or his home life. I'm interested in what he offers to our team, what he brings to it and his performances to earn the huge wage he makes. For the last 18 months he hasn't warranted a place in the starting 11, and I personally don't think he will find that spark again. I don't think he's out of form as such more that he's not at the standard of us anymore. The fact that he plays regardless is damaging to United, while better players get left on the sidelines while we piggy back Wayne along
{Ed007's Note - So do you think when a player comes over from Ireland he brings his entire family and friends with him? It's well known how much Roy Keane missed his friends and family back in Ireland when he first came over here.}
