"I went in to see him (Ferguson) and just said ‘if you are not going to play me then it might be better for me to move on,"

"Then, all of a sudden, it was all over the press that I had put a transfer request in which I never did. I don’t know what happened, why that came out that way." rooney

Twice?

29 Sep 2015 11:03:27
Maybe that's how it happened or maybe that is just one side of the story.

Either way what would you expect him to say? "I'm a greedy person and wanted more money, but they wouldn't give it to me. So I threatened to leave to force their hand".

Like Betty said, did that happen twice.

Wayne wanted a higher wage, and he's entitled to want it. How you go about getting it is another matter. Did he deserve it? Well that's down to individual perspective.

I think it is quite well documented that this isn't what happened on the first occasion, the first occasion he wasn't happy with the way the club was heading, we were signing average players that weren't good enough and City and Chelsea were overtaking us, he didn't say anything different to what people were saying on here or all over the world, then he got assurances (and a massive new contract), apologised and we moved on like we did when Rio, Keano, Brown all did the same. Or some of us did.

{Ed007's Note - Can we expect years of abuse towards de Gea after his carry on this summer, including refusing to play for the club? I can't remember Rooney refusing to play for Utd or spitting his dummy out like RVP when the going got tough yet they're lauded like heroes on here.
Some people obviously think that Rooney should still be on the same wages he got when he signed from Everton.}

betty and shaps, just missing brendan

29 Sep 2015 11:48:15
Rooney admitted to the first one (that he put a request in) and at the time I think it was true we weren't investing in the squad properly and rooney was carrying the team imo. And I believe rooney on the second one. However it doesn't excuse him from the first request and he only stayed for the money. Just my opinion on the situation.

Jred, I only responded out of devilment just to see your response, which to ne honest was a little disappointing. I'm not quite sure why you see me as a "serial offender" with Rooney? I have posted before that I think he is way past his best , because, quite frankly, he is. You getting upset by people who speak out against Rooney's form, or lack of it, is no different in essence to you constantly defending him, just different sides of the fence. Much the same as a certain Dutch manager.
Just for the record, my description of Rooney would be " a player that had the potential to be one of the very best at 18, but peaked early and never quite fullfilled that potential. However, he has still been a fantastic player for United for many years, and has at times carried the team. He deserved the plaudits for what he has done in the past, and well done to him for that. But now, he is just another player. He is no longer the main man, but is still a decent player. He is mot, in my opinion, world class and never has been, never will. That is not a criticism, just a view. He has also sufferer due to the expectation but on him, especially for England, from a young age."
So there you go, my view on Rooney. And no mention of money and contracts, because it is mot his fault the United were prepared to pay him £300 grand a week to keep hold of him in his twilight years.

jred, don't forget me!

I don't mind who said what if I'm honest, what I mind is he hasn't been good enough for a while now. You and I agree on an awful lot of things but on Rooney I guess we will always differ. 5 goals on 5 games is slightly misleading, its 1 goal 7 league appearances, his 1st in the league since March. He hit some heights earlier and he will rightly be a legend for both United and England but for the last couple of years I think he has ben living on his reputation.

betty
it was a bit tongue in cheek to be honest.

29 Sep 2015 13:08:06
Class92,

I am pretty sure City would have paid him the exact same amount of money or more to go and sign for them at that point, so yes it was probably a bit about money, but I am certain that is not by any means the only reason he stayed.

Betty,

I would say that is a fair assessment.

29 Sep 2015 13:48:12
First time it was all about money, comes from a very reliable source. He had a deal with City agreed. Nothing wrong with it just stating the facts.We were in bind as we had lost Ronaldo and coughed up the dough.

{Ed007's Note - So is Wayne Rooney the only Utd player who's used another club to get a pay rise? I can remember Roy Keane and many more doing the exact same thing, I'm sure De Gea's new deal was only an extension with no pay rise involved because he loves Utd so much.}

29 Sep 2015 14:06:28
Ed007

They all do it and was just stating what someone told me. Its a job for all these guys and like any job you are always looking for a better paying job.

{Ed007's Note - But people constantly use it as a stick to beat Rooney with while ignoring other players who have done the same - and worse!}

29 Sep 2015 14:10:14
You are right bond. Double standards in my opinion mate.

{Ed007's Note - That's exactly what it is.}

29 Sep 2015 14:11:56
Ed007

I have a bit of different view on DDG as it is natural to want to go back to where your roots are and in his case being Spain, Madrid. He was not swapping prestige of playing for a huge club like United by going somewhere with no prestige just for the money (Monaco comes to mind with certain players).

If you go by what the press says he was taking less money to make the move so not financially motivated. In wayne's case he was going to a local rival with zero tradition for more money which is his choice. I can see this will now get people riled up LOL.

{Ed007's Note - My view is that DDG was never going to end up at Madrid, but you keep believing what you read in the press, they're always spot on.
Tradition is just sentimental BS made up by fans with a love-struck starry eyed view of their club, players couldn't give a monkeys about that rubbish. It never bothered Tevez and it never bothered Ronaldo when he flirted with City.
Perhaps Wayne felt he would be appreciated more by the City fans.}

29 Sep 2015 14:23:35
Jred, I know bait when I see it, I just wouldn't want you to be disapointed. Lol.

Betty, that is exactly how I feel about Wayne.

29 Sep 2015 14:32:17
Betty, put so much better than my feeble attempt. Agree completely

29 Sep 2015 17:56:16
Well said Betty.

Sorry bond you don't think DDG was ever going to end up at Madrid? Do you think the deadline day was just all a big show on Madrids part then and they haven't been interested? I don't read rubbish papers by the way. I only go by this site and one or two credible journalists who are generally quite good at their job.

{Ed007's Note - The Real Madrid fans never wanted DDG and Perez knew that.}

29 Sep 2015 18:20:58
But why bother got through all that crap at the end then?

{Ed007's Note - Do you honestly believe that clubs like Madrid and Man Utd pay people fortunes to work on transfer deals and on the administration side only for them to act so incompetently? Madrid blame Utd, Utd blame Madrid and out it all DDG gets a shiny new contract and probably a significant pay rise. I don't know George Mendes but I wouldn't imagine he'd be too happy at that treatment of his client and I certainly would never suggest an agent could have perhaps manipulated the entire situation - we all know they's never do anything so underhand.
I'll wait and see if that gets brought up every time DDG concedes a goal or that he refused to play for the team against Aston Villa but I'm not holding my breath as DDG's not from Liverpool.}

29 Sep 2015 21:27:12
I agree it was an absolute farce. I see ballague said that Madrid wanted to leave it until the last minute as they have done in the past with transfers to make it seem like they had completed a great victory right at the death. I'm not his biggest fan but he has been fairly spot on when it comes to Madrid. But equally he could just be full of s***e.

I wasn't aware that he refused to play more the fact that LVG wouldn't consider him until the transfer fiasco was over. But I'm sure you know a lot more than I. I was just trying to put together what some decent man utd sources seemed to be alluding to. And no never would Mendes (who hasn't got much power) ever manipulate a situation, although de gea had signed a contract quite shortly after.hmmm.

I have no problem when a player tries to get a better contract and I include Rooney in that also. He has always given a 100 percent, just a shame his talent seems to be on the wane. A lot of fans hope that their star players will always remain faithful to the club until the club believe it's time to move them on. It works both ways, players try to get better contracts at the peak of their powers and clubs equally will try to offload a player when they are past it. I think that some players and their representatives go about their business quieter than others therefore can never be villanised when looking for a bumper contract.

{Ed007's Note - Willie Ballache will have said exactly what someone at Madrid told him to say.

LVG said: 'Frans Hoek he has a meeting with David De Gea and he asks him 'Do you want to play?'

Asked what De Gea's reply was, Van Gaal said: 'No.'}

29 Sep 2015 21:54:09
Ah yes true bond, my bad I remember and then there was a 'I never said that' from de gea camp!

{Ed007's Note - :-)
