So apparently we've dominated and been the better team in every game we've played according to our philosopher. Though from giggs's body language, he thinks that's utter tripe and rightly so.
Apparently all we need is better finishing! So it beggars the question, why didn't we buy a world class striker to replace the two he let go in the summer?

Agree2 Disagree2

18 Sep 2015 08:25:07
Because there was not a world class striker available.

18 Sep 2015 09:23:22
It will be said the world class strikers weren't available but by dangling enough cash on the end of the rod it is almost certain we would have gotten a bite. Maybe if the Glazers would put profits made by the club back into the club rather than cashing in on thier annual dividiends we could have stretched that little bit more and got a top goal getter.

Also if I wrote this Schmidfield I would be called an attention seeker and a pretend fan. Ouch.

What is world class??
Lacazette was apparently available at the right £
Lewandowski was apparently available at the right £
Point is if you offer enough £ you can get practically any player you want so I don't go with 'not available'.

18 Sep 2015 09:42:22
By all accounts we big £85m for Muller, there aren't many world class strikers available, LVG pinpointed Martial as someone who could be that player so we got in now before he ends up in the unavailable category in a few years time.

Which game were we not the better team in?

18 Sep 2015 10:00:39
Bidding £85m (if true) for a player we've been categorically told is unavailable is pointless. The fact of the matter is that one of RVP or Hernandez should have been kept because both are better options than Fellaini. As it stands our attacking options are two young lads, a midfielder and Rooney.

As I've been banging on about all summer, we have left our squad short in a number of areas, and the idea that you have a small squad of players intended to play a number of positions isn't good enough in the modern era. What we will be left with is shoving square pegs in round holes when injuries start to hit.

18 Sep 2015 10:08:24
If we had finished 5th last season, this page and the club will have blamed it on not being in the CL. As it happens there are no excuses other than we play the brand of football that no World Class striker would like to play in.

"Come play for Utd, you get the ball 5 times a match, always with 4 players around you and you will have 1 maybe 2 chances each game if you are lucky" Any striker not bothered about an extra few grand would say "no thanks".

18 Sep 2015 10:10:57
Apparently if u dangle enough cash they will bite. Or maybe we should just write a load of names on paper, blind fold ourselves and pick one at random?

The contradictory statements of some on here is laughable at best.

18 Sep 2015 10:26:12
What is contradiary CTR? You make zero sense.

For example Cavani was certainly available and could have been an Arsenal player had Wenger not baulked at the fact he has no sell on value.

The fact is we needed a striker, there were some available and we landed a youngster for a massive fee who may now be under pressure to get goals.

GDS didn't Ed002 say the Muller 'bids' were BS?

18 Sep 2015 10:59:57
JMB,

Ah so what Ed002 says is gospel now then? You've changed your tune, I don't remember him saying that and have heard from various sources we put large bids in for Muller so I will assume we did.

Had a feeling you might be the first one to mention the dividends, in all seriousness what investor doesn't want to get paid a dividend? Did you think when we floated on the NY stock exchange that we were never going to pay a dividend? People complaining about this clearly don't really understand what they are talking about.

Also, 'annual dividends?' isn't this the first time they have taken a dividend, what is 'annual' about them? Or just making things up to suit your point for a change?

{Ed002's Note - The offer that Karl-Heinz Rummenigge referred to was made in August and it was from another club. Later in the window Manchester United enquired with his agent and with Bayern Munich as to his availability, and was told he was not available - but they do fear that Manchester United and other English sides will pursue their players going forward. They will fight off sales in January but with managerial changes coming in the summer they are aware that efforts will be made to prise some of the significant assets from the club. It is far from out of the question that they will bring in a new head coach earlier than the summer to work in the background to the existing coaching team and to build a rapport with the players.

As for the dividends they will be paid quarterly going forward or until notice is given.}

Thanks Ed, insightful and welcomed as always.

Gds,bwm. You know and we all know football is a business nowadays. Go in with enough money, ala sterling de bruyne and the club's will sell. As done others pointed out, lewindawski, cavani, ibrahimovich and a few others were available and even their agents confirmed that. So your argument doesn't stack up.
The reason I brought it up is not to start the old argument, but it is our own manager who recently said that we lack good finishers. Well, who's fault is that?
Some people on here seem to think it's all going to magically change and we'll start banging the goals in. But who is going to score these mythical goals. And why is the manager complaining when it was him who put us in this predicament.

18 Sep 2015 13:00:51
Good post Ed I knew I had seen you post something along those lines earlier.

18 Sep 2015 13:32:44
Was he available? News to me, all reports were saying he was being kept and if anyone was leaving it would be Zlatan, Lewi likewise as was benzema. Who does that leave really as available 'world-class' strikers?

Contradictory statements like people moaning about over inflated money being paid out for players, then claiming we should of just threw money at the ones we wanted.
Or us chasing players not available, then saying we should of kept throwing money to get them.
Or whinging about not giving youth a try, then saying we should of thrown money at these proven 'world-class' strikers etc.

Like CB's it seems really top draw strikers are not that common these days, u have to buy them young and turn them into top players then hope u can keep hold of them.

You would think some people change their opinion to suit their agenda wouldn't you CTR, but it can't be that can it?

18 Sep 2015 16:17:46
Interesting debate. The manager is ultimately responsible for the teams performance including , selection, system, style of play ,scoring and defending. If we end up having a poor year for whatever reason lack of goals, conceding goals etc etc he ultimately wears it and the opposite is also true.

Personally, I am yet to see this manager get this team to perform on away games and for those who point out to possession stats, unfortunately that does not win you games and we really create very little and that is ultimately down to his style of play and philosophy.

So far this year we are following last years script, struggling on the road and scrapping wins at home. Every away match is a concern for me and i have no idea how we will perform. Thinking about not betting on us at all on away games unless I see a vast improvement.
