Delighted we won, but in all seriousness was the 2nd half that good to watch or that better performance wise? I know we scored 3 goals but we didn't create anything and still played slow. Young ran at Clyne and beat him once for the first, Martial had his one chance to run at them and showed what he could do. Aside from that Liverpool had the better chances and we still played very slow cagey football - Liverpool were dreadful.

Only difference from the first half was we scored from the 3 chances we had. 2 set-pieces and one moment of class from somebody who is still playing on instinct (like ADM was when he started), in a few weeks Martial would have held the ball up and waited for support, just wait until LVG has time to "coach" him!

Sorry guys first half was awful, second half was marginally better. Don't let the goals mask things, I know I'm going to get slated for this, but watch that second half again and ask yourself if that is what we now consider a great half? Result aside it was another dreadfully slow performance, beating Liverpool is always fantastic but let's not kid ourselves.

That Martial goal was the first time I have leapt up and cheered in year's, great feeling but doesn't excuse what went on before hand.

as i have ssud before we will do ok this year , i think 2nd but it won't be pretty to watch

"That Martial goal was the first time I have leapt up and cheered in year's"

Did you not leap up and cheer when RvP scored the 3rd goal vs Olympiakos?

Or when Evra put us in front against Bayern with that Thunderbolt?

Or when Mata scored that sublime goal against Liverpool last year?

Or when ADM audaciously chipped the keeper against Leicester?

Or when DDG makes those countless world class saves when we have to see again and again to believe?

Exaggerate in limit Beast.

Beast , I am contradicting myself really by even replying to this. But if you could not see a marked improvement in the second half , there is nothing more really to be said.

Sometimes there is no point in arguing , because you are so blinkered by your hatred of the manager that you will only ever see what you want to see. You have already made up your mind before a match because of your agenda.

There is little point in debating with someone who who is not prepared to see the positives in anything. I am not suggesting we were the marauding , edge of seat United of old. But some of your comments above are that of a person who is paranoid.

There are none so Blind (see what I did there?) as those who don't want to see.

No Mumbai Boy, I'm not a Jack in the Box.

There have been some good moments no doubt, but there is something special about a young kid doing something exceptional at a key moment on his debut against a rival.

Last time was the Scholes header against City if you are interested.

13 Sep 2015 10:13:10
We put 3 past the scousers at Old Trafford, conceded a wonder goal and saw our new signing come off the bench and scored a peach. Liven up mate.

13 Sep 2015 10:14:34
How do you play great attacking football anyways against a team that used an almost flat back four with firmihno and ings as wing backs?
They came to defend and sneak a point because brendan didn't want a repeat of last year where they attacked and got caught out.

13 Sep 2015 10:32:01
Beast then I guess you either have higher standards or you don't watch our games with as much enthusiasm(regardless of how we play) as I do.

13 Sep 2015 10:38:58
"there is something special about a young kid doing something exceptional at a key moment on his debut against a rival"

Thats quite a specific thing you need to get excited Beast lol, no wonder you're so hard to please. Personally I would only have been impressed had he finished it off with a triple pike summersault whilst simultaneously giving Skertl a wet willy.

Betty - From the 2nd Spurs game last season I was full of praise for the manager for about 4 weeks. I judge on what I see not on the emotions of beating a rival - I was one of the only ones praising him during the Everton defeat if you recall and I was one of the first to say how well we did against Brugge?

2nd half performance was how we have played all of this season in the PL, slow, boring and lacking creativity, the first half was the worst we have played for a long time. So lifting the level to what we are used to isn't an improvement (and what most have been criticising), it was just better than the absolute dross in the first half.

The first half is an artificial base point to judge from.

PS. I wouldn't care if it was SAF or LVG in charge I would still give the same assessment regarding the performance.

13 Sep 2015 10:23:54
Beast ,

I bet the next time is when you hear about lvg signing his contract extension

13 Sep 2015 11:25:13
Your constant moaning is much more boring than the football we play.

13 Sep 2015 11:45:36
2nd half was a lot different to first half based on the early goal just after half time. IT could quite easily have turned out as bad as the 1st half had that not gone in.
But that was based on Liverpool coming to play and leaving gaps for us to exploit.

The worrying thing for me is LVG saying he was more pleased with the 1st half, in fact ill be gutted if he extends his stay past next season.

As we are in the present we should all get behind them and enjoy beating Liverpool for the 3rd time in 2 seasons.

13 Sep 2015 11:55:18
I agree Deano.

Just goes to show we all see different things. I thought we played well yesterday.

At the end of the day, it is a results business; and more often than not, we get the job done.

With regards to playing style, there are very good signs, IMO, that we are turning into a very good football team.

13 Sep 2015 12:39:19
Mumbai boy putting beast firmly in his place there, great banter!

13 Sep 2015 13:29:00
Beast you are all lot more predictable than our football and a lot more boring

{Ed025's Note - i think what he said is fair ken..

13 Sep 2015 13:43:48
That bandwagon must be well over the weight limit now.
Just saying :-)

13 Sep 2015 13:51:41
I agree with beast, we played a very poor Liverpool without playing well we still got the result, the first half was poor the second half de gea had some great saves, still would like to see more improvement.

13 Sep 2015 14:51:58
What about rvp last minute free kick against city at the emptyhad which gave us a 3-2 WIN and set us on our way to winning the league that year? Or the comeback against Newcastle in same season?

13 Sep 2015 15:56:03
That's the worst Utd Liverpool game I have ever been to. The first half was shocking . Ok we won in the end but it was far from convincing against the poorest Liverpool team I can remember. This bunch of players could perform so much better were it not for the lvg philosophy they are having to adhere to.

13 Sep 2015 15:56:40
Schmidfield - You are right sorry, the RVP one got me as well, I was overseas and scared the life out of a few of the locals with my jubilation.

Mumbai Boy - Yes I guess I have higher expectations, that's all it is mate. Most people are quicker to cheer than myself in life (not just football wise). My opinion tends to be valued in real life a little more than it is by some on here granted, but I won't lose any sleep over it, I still enjoy the views of people with an opposite perspective to my own for the most part.

For those of you that keep saying my posts are boring - (Ken you are making this a habit). How can my commenting on a match be boring and repetitive? The game only happened yesterday and it was my FIRST post about it. It is just the same as somebody saying they thought it was a good solid performance and calling them boring because they said the same 2 weeks ago!

It just so happens that most of our games have been very similar this season and last season, so my assessments can be very similar - they do change when we play well I can assure you.

Some people love the manager, some have faith and others don't like him - he is still the same manager, having said the same things and performed the same way. I just don't get people who come on a banter page and get so irritated with somebody airing their objective views, my posts may have a similar slant but that's my opinion and the manager is the key person at the club. The page is overrun with people saying the opposite to me and they aren't called boring, but as you agree with them their constant optimism is perfectly fine, how does that work?

Nevermind, you are entitled to your opinions on both the football and my high expectations for the club we love. I choose to put them on here and you choose to read and respond. Just ignore me if you don't like what I have to say, or respond in a constructive way please otherwise it's kind of pointless - just saying "boring" is not really adding anything imo.

13 Sep 2015 16:15:04
beast posts are never boring i might not agree but he is always a good read

13 Sep 2015 17:20:18
Beast you crack me up fella. I am making a habit of calling your posts boring? You have a habit of lvg and player bashing and if I think your repetitive posts are boring I will say so. I ignore a lot of your posts but tend to read the ones in the middle of threads in interested in. My habit of calling you out on it is a lot less habitual than your player and manager bashing which is daily i'd day I only call you boring weekly so promise to stop when you do. I would bale your views more if you showed less bile hatred and bias towards the manager and your less favourite of our players.

13 Sep 2015 15:48:16
Everybody had their own opinions Ed025 but you are in the minority judging by the amount of disagrees. All I said was his comments are totally predictable and because he says the same things repeatedly it gets boring imo. His hatred of all things lvg and his totally unjust comments such as lvg knows nothing about football undermine any valid comments he makes imo

{Ed025's Note - its all about opinions ken as you say, i know some can go over the top with theirs but if we all felt the same it would be pretty boring mate, the opinions on LVG seem split but i agree that him knowing nothing about football is silly..

13 Sep 2015 18:23:57
Funny enough I agree with Beast. We had 3 shots on target and the second half was a feel good half because we scored and the quality of the last goal was very high and a huge relief at the same time.

Poor slow build up match after match and useless possession that creates very little and that will not change for a while.

I believe many will come off their high next week as a loss at Southampton will not surprise me.

BTW I bet 3-1 and was rewarded very well :)) I am betting a draw next week because i can't bring myself to bet any other way

Go on boys hit the disagree button and tell me how wonderful we were yesterday lol,

13 Sep 2015 19:03:20
Ken - I have never said that he knows nothing about football that is ridiculous, you are making things up. I say his methods are outdated and not for our club. He has been studied by other coaches so how could I possibly get away with saying something like that?

13 Sep 2015 20:53:34
A slow possession game allows every team to get men behind the ball and get their lines sorted and robs you of space and nullifies speed as there is no space to run into and hence why people including myself are frustrated with Depay and last year it was ADM.

We are very predictable as we circulate the ball over and over sideways and backwards and then everything comes down the left side. Not really that difficult to defend and no surprise we can't create enough chances or scoring enough goals.

We have had 21 shots on target in 5 games with 3 being home games. That is just very poor for a team that has spend the kind of money we have spent.

{Ed025's Note - hard to disagree with that GCU..
