I just read the quotes coming out from the interview with LVG and Giggs last night and I would like to hear what other folks view on the are? Before I berate our great leader once again I would like to ask those of you who watched the interview to please tell me what I have read has been somehow taken out of context.

Two things in particular that caught my eye was LVG claims that we will not win the PL title this year and that it is beyond us. Come on man we have started decently and have a real good side, would Fergie have ever said that after the first few games of the season? We are Man Utd, the most successful club in England, we fight to the death and always crave success. Please Mr Van Gaal do not put this great club down. The fans want hope not petulance.

Secondly (and more worryingly) was the quote of 'it's not a case of if's or maybes Ryan Giggs will be my successor'. Couple of things a) who is he to name his successor? He has not earned that right b) If Giggs's managerial skills mirrors that of LVG he will be in for a short tenure c) Have we learned nothing from the Moyes changeover? It's a massive job and we need experienced managers who can attract and keep big names in check. I could go on but you get the jist of what I am trying to portray.

Did LVG not tutor Pep and Mourinho for a short period of time? Just a thought as they both turned out quite decent.

10 Sep 2015 10:13:31
The club decided on Giggs not LVG, was it not part of his remit to develop Giggs into a manager? Take the emotion out of it, an employer has asked an employee to perform a certain number of tasks, the employee conforms and does as instructed. Nothing more nothing less.

10 Sep 2015 10:22:11
We need a young manager, but that man is not Giggs. I'd like to see him earn the right elsewhere.

What we need is Klopp or Pep, both of whom will be available next year. I hope LVG is willing to take early retirement.

10 Sep 2015 10:26:19
The interview is worrying. I get the idea of stating that you're not contenders, managers often say it to take the pressure of their players. But they usually say it toward the end of the season when they're already in the title mix. To say it now is a massive f you to the squad.

The Giggs comment is ridiculous. When Fergie hand picked Moyes it was the wrong way to go about running a modern club. But at least in Fergie's case he had spent decades as manager and knew the club (he helped rebuild) inside out. LVG has been here for one season and has absolutely no right to decide who replaces him. The idea that we would promote Giggs on name instead of hiring on merit is disgraceful. A club legend, yes. But you have to earn the right to manage a club the size of United. It may be that LVG thinks that Giggs will maintain his philosophy, but that would be a completely unprofessional way to recruit a new manager.

10 Sep 2015 10:28:13
Btw I completely agree with you about Giggs not taking over, I think it would be a poor move. I like what LVG is doing in terms of shipping out the fringe players and breaking up and rebuilding an ageing team. We needed a radical overhaul after Moyes.

I just hope they style of play improves this season. I've been one of the LVG supporters and appreciate the fact we look solid, organised, retain possession and tactically very aware BUT if there isn't an improvement in an attacking sense (the speed at which we move from defence to attack and an emphasis on attack) then I think he needs to go. Also one of the main reasons I was happy about the LVG appointment was that it was suggested he would do 3 years and that's it, essentially be the bad guy, make all the changes that needed to be made then leave with the club in a more stable position giving the new manager a great foundation to work from although there was something in the press a couple of weeks ago that he'd extend his contract.

I find it amusing to think of what Giggs is learning from our manager. No doubt there will be some good things (struggling to be honest), but the things that clearly stand out are:

1 - How to play slow, boring football
2 - How to fall out with players
3 - How to sign players, and then fall out with them
4 - How to leave a squad threadbare despite spending a fortune
5 - How to make a fool of yourself at presentation night
6 - How to be indecisive, both with transfers and tactical set-up
7 - How to earn fortune just sitting on your backside during games and spouting nonsense during press conferences.

All I hope Giggs has learnt during this period is what not to do.

wasn't peps first job in management with barcelona? just saying, how do you know giggs isn't ready or will be when called upon ! pep was inexperienced before hand

10 Sep 2015 11:26:32
We need an experience manager not giggsy to take over after van gaal which going by reports it could be a lot sooner rather than later now that the cracks in the squad are starting to appear that their not happy with his methods
There's a lot more people on here now who want to get rid of van gaal than there was at beginning of last season me I have never wanted him so here's a hypothetical question how would you feel if we lost the next 3 games and van gaal got sacked or would you rather watch the mundane football for the rest of the season personally I would take a bad couple of weeks if it meant we were shot of that dinosaur.

10 Sep 2015 12:09:38
As much as I want him gone Nach I would never want to see us lose and to have a bad few weeks in this league could pretty much put you out of the title challenge completely. But then again apparently we don't have a chance in hell at the title anyway according to our dear leader!

10 Sep 2015 13:13:51
I actually can't wait for a manager change.

10 Sep 2015 13:32:48
The person who wrote the OP and the people who commented on it made me laugh, I could have written the names down last night as to who would have a negative swing on this.

JMB's original question was 'did anyone see it and has he taken it out of context' and the response was everybody just slagging off the manager, did anyone that commented ACTUALLY see the interview? I am interested.

10 Sep 2015 13:52:21
I'll put my hands up GDS and say I have just read it but what I seen I didn't agree with. Now a few different tabloids are claiming unrest anongst the group and towards the manager in regards to his methods. It will only get worse.

10 Sep 2015 13:53:44
I would truly trust whate being written to be have been taken out of context.

Yes, most of the guys here want LVG gone or dinosaur shot but saying that we should lose games to make a reason for LVG sacked is ridiculous. I think this is a season where we need to be realistic and consolidate the CL position and LVG staying will certainly make that a reaity. We will be there and there abouts in the top 4 or even 3.

Who is to say what the next manager would bring in. Manager changes in the middle of a season is not something we should be doing. That just breaks down the machinery and we again start from scratch. That would seriously damage our season.

I think LVG would certainly play out this season and then leave at the end of it on his own terms, unless ofcourse he does the unthinkable and gets us trophies.
Pep to follow???
Certainly shouldn't be Giggs at this point in time.

Thats my blabber out of the way for this post.

Cheers Guys.

10 Sep 2015 13:57:17
Of course they didn't gds. They made their minds up long ago.

I shall do the same with the new guy.

10 Sep 2015 13:49:02
That wasn't all I posted.

10 Sep 2015 14:57:56
Why do people assume it is LVG's decision to choose the next manager? And that the decision hasn't already been made by the powers that be and he's merely stating the facts, he may not even agree with Giggs becoming manager but he's not going to say that of course he'd have to go along with it.

10 Sep 2015 15:05:56
One thing that I can guarantee is that if Giggs was in charge we would go back to playing two up top with two pacey and skillful wingers and then 4-3-3 in Europe.

Maybe wouldn't be so bad after all.

10 Sep 2015 14:47:31
I did not see it. Although it's a subject I like to debate about (LVG) thus expressing my opinion on it.

10 Sep 2015 14:54:50
I personally like the manager. He isn't everyone's cup of tea, but he is direct and honest: two Dutch traits that I admire.

10 Sep 2015 17:54:51
I am also surprised that he has set the bar for 2nd or 3rd. On Giggs we don't know and to just dismiss the idea is silly. Look at Monk at Swansea.

If he does take over he is united through and through and no matter what LVG preaches to him which maybe is the tactical things that would be quite useful he still has more Fergie in him and maybe we get a mix of both world which is ideal.

10 Sep 2015 18:55:05
Beast what do we learn from your posts
1 how to be boring and repetitive
2 how to read utter tripe
3 how to come across as a complete fool

I would imagine that if you live to be 200 you won't achieve the heights in your career that lvg has in his, you are dismissive ignorant and completely out of touch with reality IMO. Your disdain for lvg is fine but your constant berating of a manager who has achieved plenty in his career and your insistence that he knows nothing about football makes you come across as a completely ignorant biased fool.
The reality is you know nothing about football management at the level where lvg is at, your darling Kopp the quitter the man who turned league winners into a laughing stock in 3 seasons would aspire to have a career as good as lvg.

10 Sep 2015 23:38:16
Ken I think the beast makes some valid points and I think everyone with their own opinion should be able to air it. Some of the things you post I could say is "ignorant" and "out of touch with reality" but I don't because I'm a nice guy.

IMO of course.

I agree the Giggs comment was odd. I prefer the theory that the club picked Giggs and hired LVG to tutor him. Surely we wouldn't make the same mistake twice? I can't think of many managers with the same level of experience that were available for the tutor role. If that were true remember Giggs would be able to choose for himself which bits of the "Philosophy" he follows, who or does or doesn't fall out with, and will have SAF's ear when he needs advice - who I suspect is one of the most influential figures in picking the manager anyway.

But regardless, why did he even answer the question? Unless he was taken out of context? Rearrange a few words and you can take a different meaning. Plus he does apply Dutch/German sentence structures to his use of English and comes across quite literal even when he's joking or on a wind up. And he does like winding the media up to shoot them down in his next interview.

11 Sep 2015 08:02:37
On the subject of giggs, people can be very fickle. I remember when monk was appointed in place of Laudrup the pundits all thought terrible move because everyone goes by reputation but look at them now and people are saying he is going to be the next great manager( expect to see him at Liverpool next year BTW).

I actually think giggs will be a good manager and his temperament is ideal for us and his style of management and approach to our play will be totally different to LVG and the tutoring under LVG will help him tremendously from a tactical perspective.

{Ed001's Note - I doubt Monk will leave Swansea for a couple of years more at least, not while they are progressing and there are things he can see to improve which are within budget.}
