Hi Ed002. Its great to see you posting again on the page. A refreshing insight into our transfer window in particular.

But I do have one question if you wouldn't mind answering. you made the point more than once in your posts that Schweinsteiger was a dumb move, could you please tell us why you think that is?

Thanks in advance

{Ed002's Note - (a) His age. (b) His cost. (c) His fitness. (d) His ability to play all season.

An expensive bit part player at best.}

All those points are vaild, and concerns I have myself about his transfer.

But considering his experience and his leadership skills as well as the way he has seemed to boost the squad for me might off set some of those concerns. In the last few years we have lost Giggs, Scholes, Vidic, Ferdinand and Evra who were all big personalities, and had massive experience of the highest level. Something we have lacked since they left. He gives the younger players someone to look up to and aspire to be like.

Maybe that justifies his cost maybe it doesn't but ultimately it's not like we can't afford it.

i looks out of shape infact he looks like his legs have gone

Well he appears to have been brought in to share that role with Carrick so age/injuries shouldn't be too much of an issue. I don't think he is expected to play a full season and that is fine. Cost I can understand but I don't care about that.

Sorry Ed002, going to have to respectfully disagree.

Dumb move? Definitely not. He's only 31, which is 4 years younger than the man who kept our team together last season. Bastian is being used 50% of the time switching with Carrick to add some calmness and control to our game. So playing 50% of the time means his ability to play to whole of the season doesn't matter. He will help in the changing room and already seems to be somewhat of a mentor to Memphis.

He will add a calm knowledgable head in the changing room in regards to Europe as well. He's a legend and for £12m, a bargain too.

Also reports that it was only £6m in the end.

Making it a very smart move.

{Ed002's Note - So he is only going to be playing on a part time basis - every other week. So that doubles his wages - care to justify paying him £600k per game then? You have an incredibly naive view of the money.}

That is some pretty weird logic Ed002.

{Ed002's Note - Well if he has come in to play only half of the games others are expected to be fit for it has moved up from extremely expensive to outrageously expensive. I am astonished that the club would have sanctioned the move knowing that.}

Ed002

If you are saying we are paying him 300k a game i agree with you, absolutely bonkers of a deal and woodward and LVG should get a head checked. I am astonished and always thought he would be on a 100k to 120 k a week max.

{Ed002's Note - His wages are in excess of £15M a year.}

ED002

Thank you for the info. I am shocked an hard to even comprehend we could do this. I am now more than ever convinced that the sooner we get a new manager the better and maybe a chief executive as well. No decent manger in football would sanction something like this. Astonishing
