It seems now it may be in de geas best interest to renew his contract. As I don't think you'd play someone who isn't interested in staying. Obviously with the euros he needs to play regularly. Which will then give us a much bigger fee if Madrid come back next season

I bet De Gea can think of over 10 million reasons not to sign a new contract.
Personally I doubt he will sign a new deal with us but will still play because van Gaal knows Romero isn't good enough. All the signs from the club are that he will be given every opportunity to re-integrate with the first team. So unless he throws his toys out of the pram he will be considered for selection.

Definitely we hold all the aces now if he's desperate to play in euros then he has to play so you don't play him until he signs new deal. Then we will see how desperate madrid are to get him the fact that they never asked for an extension should tell everything degea needs to know about that club.

Robert Lewandowski played out his final year of his contract with Dortmund before joining Bayern on a free. They just bumped up his wages for the last year.

I think the power has shifted in our favour. It all depends really if the signing on fee that Madrid are offering if he goes on a free are more important than being Spain's no1 at the euros. Time will tell us about what type of guy he is. If I had to make a prediction then I would say he would extend his deal with a transfer agreement also included.

do you really think del bosque will not pick one of the best goalkeepers in the world just because van gaal won't pick him?? do me a favour!!! De Gea will be in the spanish goal come the euros whatever happens. All the united fans need to look hard at van gaal for signing romero. Why sign a goalkeeper that is ordinary at best when you expected your number 1 to leave? The man is a joke and tries to out smart everyone with his interviews but just comes across as a right jackass.

I disagree that de gea will play whatever happens. If he doesn't play all season then I think its crazy to say he just goes straight into the Spanish team
