The transfer window has now come and gone. Some of the business we did was great, some not so great. Overall I would have liked a little more action in some areas but I think we have a good core group of players who can win medals for this club. I think we are still short up top especially with the ridiculous Januzaj loan and I worry about the CB position but hopefully that will be less of an issue assuming LVG swallows his pride and puts the best keeper in Europe between the sticks.

We have got 7 points from 12 so far in the league and have been drawn a very favourable group in the CL. Do we have the players to mount a title challenge? Yes I think we do. How far can we go in the CL? I'm not sure but an inexperienced Moyes got to the quarter finals with a much poorer squad and with lesser time at the helm of the ship.

LVG has now had his 3 windows. He has invested mammoth amounts of cash into bringing in his own players and has sent those surplus to requirements packing. He has had a bedding in year to instil his 'philosophy' and his 'processes' as well as adapt to the PL.

Do we all finally agree this is it now in terms of excuses of transition and how he took over a dejected squad and that from here on out the buck stops with the manager? Do we all agree 4th would be an embarrassing disaster this season? Do we all agree the performances from here on out are on his head?

I am no fan of Van Gaal as you all know but two things he has been given is time and resources and it is now time for him to produce the goods. He has had his 3 windows, he now has his own team.

So then, has lvg has his 3 windows? You didn't specify

I don't think LVG has his own team. He talked about creativity and pace up front in the form of a galactico and we didn't buy one , nor did we buy a centre back. I have a feeling LVG may have rubbed up a few people the wrong way and there are several very good managers that will be available in the next 12 months, especially if we finish third as I now expect. However I don't believe we have yet given him the team he craves

Judging by the comments by Ed002 it looks like a plan was in place to implement the "Spine" of the team. The manager in terms of a squad overhaul has done a decent job, sent our good prospects on loan to good teams and got rid of any surplus. There is currently a good core of a group there(although a little short) We failed in getting a CB but all in all he's done well. I think in terms of the first team structure we are almost complete to be a top side.

This leads to my main point,

We have a very good core currently and now the main focus should be for LVG to get those core players, remove the shackles and let them start playing fast attacking football we know they can.Let them do what they do best and enjoy their football. A sentiment always conveyed to his players by SAF. The remaining players as I see it are the players LVG trusts the most in adopting the "Philosophy" and need to start enjoying their football again.

I think we now need to base opinions on how we play now, after a squad overhaul and with the players LVG trusts. I think going forward and we are still pedestrian lacking Ideas and failing to score goals I feel a change of Management would be most welcome

Red man I think you are right in terms of he may have rubbed someone up the wrong way but he has spent a fortune now and has brought on players to suit his tactics. He may well be gone by the end of the year but even if he has really got under someone's skin you have to admit the club have still backed him hugely.

This is a very capable team in my opinion.

JMB do u think this team is better than man city or chelsea, also can some one tell me why was januzaj sent on loan, i mean we aren't exactly overflowing with wingers or attacking players.

It is a capable team but not a great one. This summer our dealings have seen a relatively low net spend and a leaner squad. If we had bought the two players we should have then I would have used the words "hugely backed him" but we didn't. He has modernised and balanced the squad but perhaps there is a reason the club didn't hugely back him. Time will tell

Bgolgo that's a good post and I agree with almost all of it. The only thing I would have said differently is I would have kept Januzaj as an option but like you said he has gone to a good club so let's see what becomes of him.

Shackles off, free flowing football and winning as many games as possible. That's the United way for sure.

sorry pressed the reply button by mistake, I think LVG has done a good job assembling the team even if not utilising it well enough, with another good cb we could have a backline that would be set for years to come. Who ever the next manager would be and whatever style he want's to play we have a midfield good that can compete with the best, forwardline is where the spending will have to be done, but in memphis, januzaj, martial and wilson we have very good young group that could go one to be worldclass.
LVg has done a decent job at rebuilding our team, HE to me has set the template for the team, whoever the next manager is would just need to tweak the team to his style rather than going for wholesale changes as LVG has had to make.
