Watching Liverpool last night and their start to the season is unbelievably similar to that of United.

Two wins. Two games. Two goals. Two unbearable performances.

For those of you who are just about to condemn me let me ask you if you think the best is yet to come from LVG's side as he attempts to joust towards the PL title, does that mean that you would expect Liverpool to do the same as their start to the season has been almost a mirror image of United's?

Also when you consider Rodgers is substantially more proven than LVG in the PL (2nd place finish/almost won the league and his team scoring over 100 goals as opposed to scrapping for fourth and relying on assists from the likes of Tim Krul and many other fortuitous decisions) does that mean you would expect Liverpool to challenge United all the way? Chelsea and Arsenal have gaffers who have been around the block in the PL so you know they will come calling and City, well, they are making LVG's boys look like school girls at the moment.

Is that what we really want to aspire to these days? An even keel with a dreary Liverpool team with an incompetent manager?

When did the name of this club change from Manchester United to Mediocre United?

The way you compare things and draw conclusions is just amazing. 2 matches, just 2 god damn matches.

18 Aug 2015 08:26:22
The point I am making is if you settle for mediocrity, mediocre is what you become.

18 Aug 2015 08:27:01
JMB,

Yes that is what we want, to be exactly the same as Liverpool, that's why we won 1-0 knowing full well they would do exactly the same a few days later so that we would be level.

2 games have gone, we also have the same points as Leicester, we don't want to be like them either. Guessing this post was written just to get a reaction like most of your previous posts as the way you write them calling us mediocre united is obviously just to annoy people, so I'll leave my response at that.

18 Aug 2015 08:28:16
This reminds me of the movie ' The Big Lebowski' scene when the dude explains lebowski about new news coming to light and lebowski replies ( which is my reply to this post btw) 'what in gods holy name are you blathering about?'

So undude of u fellow.

18 Aug 2015 08:28:35
And it's not just two matches, maybe you should go back to watching the endless snorefest of last season also. You will be woken up by the Spurs game during the final stretch for a little bit and cutting your wrists by end of the final game against Hull.

18 Aug 2015 08:38:12
Liverpool were the second best team in both their wins, we were the better team in both our wins. Not saying we were good but if you watched both games you would see Liverpool could have conceded any minute, we on the other hand looked solid off the ball, just lacked drive going forwards. Either way you are boring and this response will bounce off you without any lesson learned.

Talk about trying to fit round pegs into square holes to prove a point. You had to smash those round pegs in with a hammer!! There's been 2 games played. By your reckoning, Leicester are a better team than United. You remind me of a poor journalist who'll say anything to prove his/her agenda. This is getting tiresome mate. I'm quite happy to play compact boring football for a little while longer until our new signings bed in and hopefully Rooney finds his form. Take a step back and look at the team that finished 7th 16 months ago and look at the team now. He's done a good job pal even if you hate him.

You seem like the type of person who takes their dinner out of the oven after 5 minutes and complains it's cold. Have a bit of patience.

I will take 6 points after 2 games not playing well all day. Sign of a good team is when they win without particularly playing well. Jose has made a career out of this.

Wenger's biggest criticism until recently has been nice football but nothing to show for. They have also now learnt how to win ugly when needed and why one of the bookies favourites.

A win at Swansea can see us open the season with 5 straight wins as i believe we will beat newcastle( tough game but will win and the Scousers quite easily at home, which is a hell of lot better than 5 points we had last year after 5 games.

18 Aug 2015 09:20:49
JMB,

I think I preferred Rollo, he seemed nicer.

18 Aug 2015 09:30:33
Or do we want to be doing better than Chelsea and 5 points ahead of them? What a strange, over-analysis you have arrived at there after 2 games.

18 Aug 2015 09:45:24
Liverpool are giving away far more chances than us, we actually look solid at the back and in CM it's attacking where we are struggling JMB.

Quite why I'm giving u the time I don't know, as this post is just a cut and paste of your many other attention seeking posts.

18 Aug 2015 08:56:36
Give the team a chance dude.let them gel and play. Don't expect miracles overnight. you are no less than those snorefest games you mentioned. I slept half way through the post. and woke up towards the end of it to slit my wrists.

GDS2 - I am of the assumption you are addressing me.

I read a post the other day from Schmidfield which I thought was bang on the money in almost everyway. He addressed the way we are currently operating and lagging behind not only in comparison to the best clubs in Europe but even lagging behind another club in the same City. This being in terms of results, playing staff, success and even infrastructure in recent years.

Why are we the first supporters to rally behind the banner of "we are Man Utd, history of success, money to burn, we make superstars" when it suits but then when that spiel doesn't match up to what happens in reality we are happy to play the "we are in transition, the performance was poor again but we got a result, the manager will get it right eventually, 4th place was the aim, we have the money but need to haggle every penny, we need proven players we don't have time to develop potential"

It is all hypocritical and eventually the more excuses that are aired the more and more we slip into the situation of dwelling on success of the past still kidding ourselves we are up there with the biggest clubs.

Sometimes you have got to make a call early, for the good of the institution and the business and get rid of the things holding you back, in this case the manager surviving on nothing but past reputation.

18 Aug 2015 10:31:25
Watched the game and not sure how good this bournemouth team but this is a team that has been given no chance and Liverpool looked poor. I know all the press would be about what a great signing Benteke is since he scored but the goal should have never been allowed.

18 Aug 2015 10:36:03
BTW

Skyrtle is a disgrace and unbelievable how the refs allow him to mark people the way he does on set plays every year. There are 20 penalties a year that should be called on this guy and he is practically rugby tackling people every game. The refs in this league are a joke and unfit.

18 Aug 2015 10:33:07
Don't feed the troll.

18 Aug 2015 11:07:27
JMB,

You are right mate, as always, if you were writing on a Liverpool site. It has been 2 years of transition and you are behaving like we haven't won the league for 20 years, it is embarrassing. Most people can see there is an upswing, this is our best star for 9 years remember, 6 of them under the greatest manager ever.

What I am dreading is the people on here who probably already have a post written for when we lose a game, 'I told you this would happen etc etc.', it happened last year too.

18 Aug 2015 12:37:46
GDS2 I agree that it is great to get off to a winning start but it will all be for nothing in my view if we continue playing the same way as we have done.

I also get what you say about people slamming the team for losing but as you know when the walls come crumbling down at least I have been up front about my distain for the management team from the beginning.

The only thing I will say is 'if' and it is a pretty big 'if' we do not make the CL this year no matter what else happens this season then I believe the fans have a right to slam the regime for the remainder of the season and I would be pretty surprised if even you disagreed with that.

18 Aug 2015 12:42:43
Right the managers holding us back. The same manager who got rid of Anderson, nani and cleverley?

18 Aug 2015 14:29:17
I think everyone has a point. And to be honest, middle ground is about right in this instance. As Maze wrote, my worry has been about us sitting on our laurels. And to be honest, I think the club as a whole has done that for the past five years.
We had one of the best managers to have graced any football club and he masked over many of the cracks as he was a genius. We allowed City to buy too players like Aguero and Silva. Silva cost £20m and Fergie gave us the "no value in the market" jibe. Aguero was £38m and yet he's proved to be an absolute bargain. We did not secure Hazard as we did not want to pay the £5m agents fee, a ridiculous amount, but unfortunately that is what we need to do short term in order to compete. In addition, we need to invest heavily in our youth scheme so that we can bring on youth of sufficient good quality.
I think the owners and previous managers sat there thinking that success will always come, but all of a sudden, other clubs have caught up and passed us. Then we had the knee jerk reaction of trying to compete in the market and frankly speaking, we didn't have the experience at buying these top players. Of course we overpaid for mata, ADM, and fellaini. But I think we're gradually getting our house in order on that side.
We need the other parts of the club to function well too to return the club back to its former glory. Only time will tell how well we're doing that.
